"Pawn to King 4 eh? He's a sly one"

November 2021

Okay, so no one actually got last weeks quote without cheating :-)  Smeggie knew in advance where I'd get my quote from and Fireboy looked it up.  The correct answer was Red Dwarf in the episode "Better than Life".

" to king 4 eh?  He's a sly one!".  "Who's winning Hol?"  "Well he is really.  That was the first move."

So the points have JACKPOTTED!  You heard me!  Now you can earn 25 magic points for correctly guessing this week's one.  Since the bulk of the audience is American, I have pulled this one from an American TV show instead of a British one.  And that's the only hint I'm giving.  Hopefully someone can get this without resorting to search engines!

10 points for the first person to correctly identify the source quote(no search engines allowed - I have ways of testing how genuine your knowledge is).  Not auction points, just magic money, a bit like monopoly money but less tangible.

Over the weekend I had a comic reading session and read quite a few.  I even posted ratings on this fantastic site (10,000 auction points from dough boy for saying that.... please?).

So this week I'm going to talk more about Transformers comics.

I've been pretty negative in my first 2 blogs, so I thought I'd mix it up a bit and talk about 5 things that I have enjoyed recently in ongoing comic titles:

1 - Transformers: All Hail Megatron.  It may have been because I had gone into it with low expectations, but this is the best Transformers comic going currently.  I've read the first 6 issues and thoroughly enjoyed them  I have 2 more waiting at the TOP of my "to read" pile that will be read tonight (yes I'm going to read a comic for the first time in 2 months)

2 - Paul Dini's Detective Comics run.  Grant Morrison on Batman disappointed me, but I had equally high expectations of Paul Dini's run because I LOVE Batman Animated Series.  Unlike Morrison, he didn't disappoint.  From his first issue #821 through to the Heart of Hush I found that it was one where I couldn't wait for the next issue of the run.  I even re-read most of the early issues while waiting for the next issue at one point!

The title actually has nothing to do with the content, but I had nothing interesting to put there.

I've realised - I've been buying comics for 6 or 8 weeks and not reading any of them.  My "to read" list must be getting quite long.

Don't get me wrong.  I want to read them.  But the issue is that I'm studying so all my reading time has been taken up by reading textbooks instead of reading for pleasure.

Howdy to you all for part 1 in my blog thingies.  These may be regular or they may not depending on how I feel.

To start with I thought I'd share how much I pay for comics compared to you North Americans.   Well, most on this site are from that part of the world anyway.

Due to the exchange rate fluctuations and shipping costs for my LCS, currently I pay approximately US$4.10 for a $2.99 book and US$5.47 for a $3.99 book.  That's roughly 37% more than you guys per book.
