Ultimate Comics return this week with a new issue of Spider-Man. In this issue Mysterio continues his stranglehold on New York and releases a fear agent that has people running for their lives. Meanwhile, at work Peter runs into his old flame MJ and the teen drama begins. The shouting match leaves each passing the blame. Peter can't figure out why MJ called their relationship off and MJ wonders how Peter could hook up with Gwen so soon. Johnny Storm has returned and is now crashing at the Parker residence. He confides in Aunt May and discusses where he has been since Ultimatum. Sue Storm makes an appearance, and gives her blessing for Johnny to stay with Peter, who she reveals "looks up to him."
The writing on this title continues to shine under the helm of Brian Michael Bendis. The art on this series so far has been hit or miss for me. David Lafuente's drawing style is annoying. The way he draws things like faces and hair is so different then what we see in any other comic its jarring to look at. Different isn't always better in my opinion. However, I have to give credit to him for his layouts. Its very simplistic and spaced out. In this case different is better. Comics tend do over do the overlaying of panels or not containing action within a panel. When he does its only to emphasize action and does so impressively. Justin Ponsor also lends hand with his beautiful vibrant coloring.
