friday night in precursor's household consists of the following. i come home from work, maybe my wife is here with the kids, maybe they're out. this particular evening they are home. 3 of the 4 children have a biological father that is not me, so they are sadly whisked off to his (parents') house for the weekend... my wife has just been hired on as the area director of a new chain of restaurants starting here in aurora, called benchwarmers... she will probably have to go to work this evening. so that leaves me and hunter, the youngest daughter, to hang out.
we shall play 1vs100 on xbox live, or at least i will. its become a bit of a tradition between myself and a few friends. at some point during this, hunter will want to go to bed. after i put her to bed, we'll finish the game, and then i'll get to work on the book i've been writing. or at least blog about it a bit. i've started a new writer's blog, you can find it here:- read more
so it's a week before the holidays, and i've got my shopping just about done (just need to get my wife something...). so now it's time to get back to the book, the finishing of the book, the publishing of the book. still can't say much, but i can at least tell you why.
we're about to register for our copyright on the book idea. once that is done, then i will feel a bit safer about opening up with the plot, characters etc. a little bit. all i have to do is get to kinko's tomorrow and scan this piece of art (it's too big for my scanner) that i want to send in with it. concept art for some of the symbols in the book.
brett and i have decided that a comic book may not be the best format to start with, mostly because my initial artist seems to have moved on to better things... i guess he has, i haven't talked to him in two months. i see him on facebook, facebooking about, but he doesn't have anything to say to me... so like i said, a book-book, instead of a comic book. i've got another friend who offered to draw a few pics for the book, Dark Tower style. we all like this idea. then, down the road, if anyone likes it, we can discuss comic-bookifying it.
so much to do as this new year begins. the book, the other book, and the game. i've begun concepting a game as well as a book, and i really think it could hold its own against the other games out there. see my forum post here:- read more
good morning everyone! it's almost ten here in denver. i'm anxiously awaiting brett's arrival (brett is the cowriter on 1 of 2 fledgling comic book titles). we decided it might be better to work in the morning, when we're fresh. of course, he generally sleeps until one o'clock, so i don't know how fresh he'll be. but, the alternative is being pickled, which we usually end up being when we work in the evening.
this book of ours is tentatively called"ix", as in the number nine. it has everything i could want in a comic book. a brooding antihero who wants nothing more than to be left alone to wander the earth. a maniacal cult driven by a for power and world domination, fueled by their fanatical devotion to a centuries-old ancient religion.
wait, it also has hot chicks. did i leave that part out?- read more
hey cbr friends! it's been a while. i'm super busy at work, testing video games, and super busy at home, with the family.
i am way behind in my collecting. the local comic shop has let me down, so i am on hiatus while i search for an alternative (also, i am low on funds, having only one job, instead of two nowadays).
so i get a call from a buddy that i haven't seen in a few years. he says he's interested in making comics. he knows i want to make comics. so now, we've begun a process that i will call making comics. the plan is to have our first book premiere at the phoenix comic-con, may 2010 (please come and see us! we'll have a booth). so, more to come on that front. i don't want to say too much about the book itself (there may even be two of them), because nothing is copyrighted just yet. i will say, my original title has already been copyrighted by some other guys (grrrrr), but i persevere, and am wracking my brain to find an alternative awesome title.
well its friday. wife at work. my 3 oldest are at their original dad's house. the little one is here somewhere. "i'm going to watch wonka" she says. "can i come?" i ask. "no. you like the scary one. i like this one." by this she means that i prefer the gene wilder version, and since she is not watching that one, i don't get to come along. so i let her have her way. "i'll be in my office," i say. "bring me a drink." that's the response i get. i was hoping for something like "i'll miss you" but no such luck.
so now i'm downstairs. it's too early for the x-box, and the novel in my head is on vacation (4 pages in, 196 to go). i could bake something. i could index some of this pile of books here by my foot. i could email my parents some pictures from the holiday.
i'll be right back, i'm going to pour myself a drink...- read more
well i'm still inventorying (is that a real word even?). almost done i think. a couple hundred books left. then what?! buy more?
the list of signed books has begun. i left the "paid for" section empty on most of them since the books were willed to me. i haven't decided about selling them yet (some of them are worth some money) but if anyone is interested, let me know.
other than that, same old stuff. working too much, sleeping not enough, nowhere near enough xbox time.
well its time to get going on this. i have a giant office full of books and they are just laying around in boxes and piles. if i'm ever going to open the store, i should probably start taking stock of what i've got before i start getting more...
got to get some done before i head to the going-away party for some friends at our local pub.- read more
