Would You Buy This Comic Book?

Comic books have always been a source...er, root...of all evil and controversy.   Why we can just simply go back into yester-year of the 1950's when there was a push to remove comic books from the American culture - ultimately, leading to approval stamps.  All nonsense!

The latest comic book that is in the works could be a big seller because of the controversy surrounding the key character - Paule Deen.

OK...we all lived through the big world shut down of the millineum in 2000 and the end of the world as predicted by the Mayan calendar.   Nonetheless, there are thousands and thousands of people out there who are preppers - Ones who try to prepare and be ready from anything including alien invasion, financial collapse or the zombie apacolypse.   I'll admit it.....I'm a prepper, too!

I don't go to the extreme that we have seen on some of those television shows but, I do have my weapons, cache of food, some supplies and a bug out plan.   So, I have got to be the first to stand up and say that this NEW PREPPER COMIC BOOK has REALLY caught my attention!!   C'mon!   Everyone loves it when two of your hobbies come together!

A couple of weeks ago I blogged about how movie makers are really digging to come up with the next best movie...er, excuse me...money maker.

I usually keep up on the next comic movie because, like everyone else, I really like them.   But, I like the ones that go beyond the mainstream spidey and x-men.   Therefore, I was blown away today when I saw a preview for the upcoming move R.I.P.D.!

With the continued success of the comic super hero movies, the studios are looking (I say more like digging and hoping) to find the next big hit.

This article talks about some of the new titles scheduled by Marvel for 2016 release.  Now, I am a fan of anything comic but I am also pretty adept to what could be made into money.

Titles like Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers, Batman, Superman and more have the natural ability to draw in the paying customers.   Primarily because they have huge marketing campaigns that go beyond the silver screen like television cartoons that show over and over.   Plus, these titles have a long standing history of being naturally recongnizable by the general public.     But, put a character drawing of Ant-Man, The Black Panther or Dr. Strange in front of these same people and i will be that only 10% or so will be able to guess who they are.

Superheroes = gods?

Let's face it....we all need something to believe in - something that makes us feel good and encourages us.

I am a Christian and I like to watch Joel Osteen because I appreciate how he uses the Bible to motivate and encourage.    I also like to watch superhero movies because they make me feel good - almost like I can conquer the world.

Well, this writer is taking it to the next step and is asking - Are superheroes the new gods?

Anti Gay Superman Writer ..... SO WHAT?

2026 views • Feb 27, '13 • (9) Comments

I'm sure you have all heard about Orson Scott Card being hired by DC Comics to write for the Superman comics.  Well, this has spawn an undue outrage across the LGBT community with an online petition calling for the removal of this man from the comic book.

My view?   So what?

Last I checked, this is still a free country (although not for long under this presidency...but, that is a different story for a different time).   Orson Scott Card can say whatever he wants.   DC comics can hire whoever they want.  I can spend my money on whatever comic I want.

Do it in phases.....

After three months of on and off activity, I recently completed the entering of 8400+ comic books into the database here on comicbookrealm.com.   That was the easy part as those were the comics that I already had bagged and boarded and somewhat in alphabetical order.  However, as I was going through the process, I discovered a couple of things.

First, I now have to go through the 8400+ comics and make sure that they are in alphabetical order as depicted in the comicbookrealm.com database.  For the most part they are.  However, there are a few that are different from the way the comic identifies it.  As an example, John Byrne's Next Men is simply identified as Next Men in the database.  Therefore, a little rearranging is required.

Secondly, I discovered that I have approximately 50 or so comics that are not listed in the database here on comicbookrealm.com.  I will need to get a list of these items submitted to CBR as soon as possible so that I can have these tracked accurately.

Who Should Have Their Own Movie?

1460 views • Nov 30, '12 • (1) Comment

With the increased development in technology that brings comic characters to life in movies to the point that they finally seem real (c'mon..Silver Surfer flying through the Chrysler building in The Fantastic Four was cool!!), we have everyone wondering who should be next.

Although everyone has their opinion and this article is no different But, people like this who create a list forget the most important aspect of creating a movie - will it make money?   I'm sorry but NONE of the seven comic characters that were brought up in this list would make enough money to justify the expense of production.

Perhaps Venom would come real close if they tie Spider-Man into the movie.   Otherwise, why do people even spend time trying to justify something that will never happen?    Here is my list of seven comic book characters who seriously need their own movie (NOT in any particular order):

This is just getting plain ridiculous?    What am I missing?  Pony Day?  Bronies?  Bronycon?

I blogged about the sweeping presales of the new My Little Pony comic book a few weeks ago and today is the release day.

Now I find out that there are adult males (bronies) who attend an annual Bronycon??

I will be the first to admit that I am not the biggest collector or comic book fan in the world.  I am not one who scours the internet for the next comic convention and make plans months ahead of time.    I am not a die hard reader who just can't wait for the next book in ANY series to come out.   But, I know interesting and good television when I see it and Comic Book Men does not work for me.

I mean....I try and try to watch it with great anticipation.  But, the four or five episodes I have seen were duds.

I am not interested in the day-to-day functions of running a comic books store as I could care less about some guy trying to sell comics during a town wide side walk sale.  I won't even go towards the Star Wars laser discs (who cares) and I only have one word about the episode where there was the recreation of The Fantastic Wedding.....STUUUUUPPPIIIIDDDD!!!
