Eternals review

Neil Gaiman takes on a Classic Jack Kirby characters.

One of today’s greatest fantasy author tackles a set of characters created  by Jack Kirby.  The interesting thing about this first issue is that it takes place during the crossover event Civil War.  Some of the secondary characters are trying out to become superheros and must be registered. It dates the book and fixes it to a specific timeline with in the Marvel Comics.

Tired , tired, tired.

This is an open letter to the big two. marvel and dc

Stop relaunching your titles. I am tired of every year we get a new issue #1 for the characters I like to read about. I understand that you want to grab those dollar sales for #1's. But what about the years of continuity and legacy with numbers like 600 or 500. If you want to launch a title with a new creative team look at the model of Spawn over at Image.  When Paul Jenkins took over as writer they did a one shot to grab those #1 dollars and then rolled the story into the next issue of the regular series. It was a smooth transition and it keep the large numbering that feels like I am reading something in a larger picture.

So this wraps up the 14 part story Maximum Carnage that took place across five different spiderman titles. In my past blogs I mentioned that this story was decompressed, focused on morals, and was a good example of peter getting knocked down but refusing to give up.  I have to say they keep the theme all the way through the  arc.

Where  the first part of the story focused on team creation, Carnage"s psycho family versus spideys anti-hero team with loose morals; the story line picks up speed around part 8. When our favortie 1940's popcicle shows up to lend spidey a hand.  We also get to see more chacracter developement of our secondary characters. Shreik seems to get the main story in several books.    Although this storyline is a bit lengthy it is a good read for anyone looking to read some classic spider-man. Also an interestesting fact that a future issue of the current Carnage comic will have a 1992 variant cover featuring several charactes for the Maximum Carngae storyline.
