Welcome back to my unnecessary reboot and renumbering of the Longbox Junk blog! I'm celebrating hitting my 175th post by looking at comics in my (and my daughter's) collection that managed to hit that big one-seven-five as well. . .even though so far, it seems that nobody seems to care enough about getting to 175 issues to make even a mention of it.

This time out, I'm taking a look at Spawn #175.  Spawn is a character that I REALLY liked a lot when he first came out.  I was fully on board for about 20 issues before I fell off the Spawn wagon.

Not really sure WHY I quit subscribing to Spawn, but except for that first handful of issues, I've only gotten Spawn comics if they happen to have a cover that catches my eye or if I accidentally get one in a random comic pack (My LCS has packs of 10 comics for 5 bucks. . .but you can only see the top and bottom comic.  They're like Longbox Junk lottery tickets.  Some are winners, but most of the time I just waste 5 bucks).

As I continue with my unnecessary reboot and renumbering of the Longbox Junk blog (All New! All Different! Pretty Much The Same!) in celebration of the landmark 175th post, I'm beginning to realize that (when it comes to comics at least) nobody gives a flying frijole about hitting 175.

I THOUGHT that since comic companies seem to be eager to push ANYTHING that will make collectors grab a copy of something they don't normally buy, that hitting the One-Seven-Five would be a little bit bigger of a deal.  It just seems sort of strange that it's pretty much ignored.

THAT SAID. . .

I LOVE a good war comic!

It's a genre that used to be one of the biggest in comics, but these days it seems that a good war comic is hard to find.  In order to revisit war comics in their glory days, it becomes necessary to step back a few years.

It's pretty safe to say that the most prolific years for war comics were during the Silver Age, but MY personal favorite era for war comics happens to be the Bronze Age, when comic companies were starting to stretch or even step outside the limits of the Comics Code.  And in that era, I have a particular fondness for DC's war comics.

I'm gonna get this out right off the top. . .As far as I'm concerned, Batman: Legends of The Dark Knight is the best Batman series that has ever been published.

I know. . .I know. . .that's a mighty hefty claim.

I'm sure there are many who will disagree with me.  But in MY extremely humble opinion (and NO opinion is more humble than mine), LOTDK (as I will be referring to it from here on out, due to basic laziness) was the ultimate perfection of Batman comics.

Welcome to the LONGBOX JUNK #1 SPECIAL COLLECTOR EDITION!

While pondering how to have a bit of celebration for the 175th Longbox Junk Comic review that nobody ever asked me for, it crossed my mind that there really aren't many comic series that have hit 175 issues recently, thanks to "The Big Two" wanting to promote those SWEET #1 issues, and in the process rebooting most popular series back to #1 every couple of years whether they need it or not.

Now, this isn't really the place for a rant about things like. . .say. . .THE PUNISHER BEING ON FRIGGIN' VOLUME TWELVE NOW. . .for example.  No, my friends.  There's an old saying about how if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.  I've decided to take that saying to heart and reboot Longbox Junk back to that SWEET Collector's item #1!

Longbox Junk - Books of Doom

Doctor Doom.  The name alone says it all.

There's no denying that Doctor Doom is one of the most iconic villains in comic books.  From his great costume design to his over-the-top third person megalomaniac dialogue, Victor Von Doom is a classic character that has stood the test of time.

BUT. . .

Sheesh! I've been doing the work of 3 people spread over 2 different shifts for about a month now Confused. Thankfully, I think the worst of it is past and I can get back to my normal night shift and have some time to throw down some tasty Longbox Junk starting back up next week. Sorry about the delay!

Due to my work being unexpectedly busy these past couple of weeks when it SHOULD be the off-season, I'm a bit behind on the Longbox Junk.  It's okay, though. . .I'm not exactly on a strict schedule with this thing anyway, so there's Longbox Junk coming soon, just not as soon as I was hoping.

THAT SAID. . .

How about a nice, tasty Retro Review to tide you over?

If you haven't read Part 1 yet, I have to ask. . .

Why are you reading Part 2 first? You some kind of Commie?

Retro Review - Cloak and Dagger

Welcome to another "Retro Review" edition of Longbox Junk!

Once again, I step outside of my usual bargain bin finds to take a closer look at a comic from my collection that might be considered more "valuable" than most of what I own and give the internet a classic comic review that NOBODY ever asked me for.

This time out, I think I've really outdone myself on the "Review that nobody ever asked me for" front, in that I believe that this will be the only review of this comic that has EVER been done. . .and I'll take a safe bet that there probably won't be another one.
