Longbox Junk - Captain America One Shots Part 1

Welcome back to Longbox Junk, home of comic reviews nobody ever asked for!  Once again, my apologies for summertime delays.

I've admitted before that I'm not a very big fan of what many think of as traditional comic book superheroes. . .the "capes and tights" crowd, in other words.  I like my heroes to be a bit more "grounded", even if they ARE inhabiting a comic book world.  Lone Ranger, Zorro, Jonah Hex, Tarzan, Green Hornet, Rocketeer, The Spirit, Sgt. Rock, The Shadow. . .THOSE are the kind of heroes that I love.

BUT. . .

Welcome to another Longbox Junk Retro Review!  Every now and then, I like to take a step back from my usual Bargain Bin fare and shine a spotlight on some of the older or more "valuable" single issues in my collection. . .this is one of those times.  Enjoy!

To many "serious" collectors, the comic at hand isn't that old.  Likewise it isn't really too "valuable", either (about $20 in perfect condition). What this comic DOES have going for it is that it was part of DC's celebration of America's Bicentennial in 1976, and I was wanting to do something related to Independence Day for this entry.

Oddly enough it seems to be the only comic I have from 1976 marked as being part of America's Bicentennial Celebration.  I have other comics from 1976 in my collection, but none of them seem to care about the Bicentennial. For that matter, it seems to be the only comic in my collection that has anything to do with Independence Day in general (my daughter is out of town, so I didn't have a chance to dig through her boxes). I find that a bit strange, but there it is.

Welcome back to Longbox Junk, home of comic reviews that nobody asked for!

Well, my friends. . .I'm finally done with it.  For the past couple of months and 9 posts I've been taking a look at comics in my (and my daughter's) collection that are issue #175 as a way of celebrating my 175th Longbox Junk comic review.

This is the 10th and final "Variant" of the completely unnecessary and unasked for reboot and renumbered Longbox Junk #1.  And SPOILER ALERT, it's the best of the bunch!  Better yet, it's completely free, and if you aren't 100% satisfied, you'll get a full refund!

Sorry about the Longbox Junk delays.  It's that time of year again.  School is out and the weather is great.  If you've ever worked in the hotel business, you know what THAT means.  If you don't, It means that even on the normally slow overnight shift I'm manager of, it's all hands on deck for 3 solid sold out months of every hotel's bread and butter. . .SUMMER TOURIST SEASON!

ANYWAY. . .

Welcome back to Longbox Junk, home of comic reviews that nobody asked for!

Welcome back to my completely unnecessary reboot and renumbering of the Longbox Junk blog! I'm celebrating my 175th comic review that nobody ever asked me for by doing something else nobody ever asked for. . .reviewing the handful of issue #175 comics in my (and my daughter's) collection!

Oddly enough, I've discovered that it seems nobody really cares about hitting their 175th issue. The Walking Dead started a new (and pretty epic) storyline in #175, but I'm not sure if that was actually planned or if it just worked out that way.  Superman #175 was celebrating being the 100th issue since the iconic "Death of Superman" finale. . .but I'm not convinced that's an actual celebration of hitting issue #175.

So. . .nobody cares about the one-seven-five except me.

Sorry this is dropping a bit later than usual.  I took a few vacation days from work.  Because I deserve it.

But here we are now, right?  Let's go!

Welcome back to my unnecessary renumbering and reboot of the Longbox Junk blog!  To celebrate my 175th comic review that nobody ever asked me for, I'm taking a look at some individual #175 issues lurking in my (and my daughter's) collection.  This time out, I've pulled Superman #175 from my daughter's longboxes.

Welcome back to my unnecessary reboot and renumbering of the Longbox Junk blog! I'm celebrating hitting my 175th post by looking at comics in my (and my daughter's) collection that managed to hit that big one-seven-five as well. . .even though so far, it seems that nobody seems to care enough about getting to 175 issues to make even a mention of it.

This time out, I'm taking a look at Spawn #175.  Spawn is a character that I REALLY liked a lot when he first came out.  I was fully on board for about 20 issues before I fell off the Spawn wagon.

Not really sure WHY I quit subscribing to Spawn, but except for that first handful of issues, I've only gotten Spawn comics if they happen to have a cover that catches my eye or if I accidentally get one in a random comic pack (My LCS has packs of 10 comics for 5 bucks. . .but you can only see the top and bottom comic.  They're like Longbox Junk lottery tickets.  Some are winners, but most of the time I just waste 5 bucks).

As I continue with my unnecessary reboot and renumbering of the Longbox Junk blog (All New! All Different! Pretty Much The Same!) in celebration of the landmark 175th post, I'm beginning to realize that (when it comes to comics at least) nobody gives a flying frijole about hitting 175.

I THOUGHT that since comic companies seem to be eager to push ANYTHING that will make collectors grab a copy of something they don't normally buy, that hitting the One-Seven-Five would be a little bit bigger of a deal.  It just seems sort of strange that it's pretty much ignored.

THAT SAID. . .
