- I've been asking around to my friends what their favourite movie (any genre) is since 2020. I usually get blank faces and no answers until they think about it for a bit.
So, it looks like I'm asking all of you CBR members what your ideal movie of the past five years is. I'm going to list mine below:
Boss Level (2020) Have you ever seen Groundhog Day? This movie is an action movie in the same vein starring the awesome Frank Grillo.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) Even though I believe the Multiverse is way overdone, this flick was pretty awesome. Tonnes of heroes and villains with great action and intrigue. What more do you want?
Bullet Train (2022) Certainly not the cleverest movie ever, but if you want good acting and oodles of action and great fight scenes you will be impressed.
The Suicide Squad (2021) Many of you out there were probably not impressed by the first Suicide Squad (2016) movie, and for good reason. It wasn't great. Then I saw the extended version recently and it made so much more sense. This new picture features an almost new cast except for a couple of return members. It's rude, crude and a blast to watch. Thank you (director) James Gunn for a super fun movie and with you taking over the helm of the new wave of DC movies I feel positive (which has been tough for most of the last five years of DC movies).
Evil Dead Rises (2023) A solid horror movie which has become increasingly harder and harder to accomplish these days. You don't even need to have watched any of the past Evil Dead movies to be able to follow everything going on here (wait, you haven't seen the past evil Dead movies? Tsk, tsk).
Dune Part 1&2 (2021&2024) These two movies finally are able to portray what Frank Herbert originally wrote almost 60 years ago. One of the better adaptations of a novel to hit the silver screen in a long time. And it totally makes up for the dreadful 1984 version.
I'm sure there are several more current classics released, but many of them are not for me. I prefer a little more action/adventure than melodrama/emotion.Bruce McKinlay

- Dune Part 1 & 2 are going to be classics for sure. Excellent movies.
Tenent was very good, I see a lot of people didn't care for it, I think they didn't understand it but watching it a few times you pick up more and more of what is going on.
No Time to Die. Love me some 007 and this one was really good IMO.
Top Gun Maverick. Tom Cruise is an incredible flake, but he's a good actor with great taste in the projects he picks.
The Batman - best comic book movie of the last 4 yrs
Uncharted - Best Indiana Jones type movie in 30+ years
Ford vs Ferrari - great story, directing and acting (okay Bale was a little hammy with it but I enjoyed it anyway)
Sisu - you want over the top action with a decent enough story to keep your brain from shutting down? This crazy movie is it
Spider-man across the spider-verse all 3 SM movies have been very good.
Mission Impossible -Dead Reckoning Part One (where the heck is Part II????)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem - this is very good, the animation is a bit lacking but everything else is very good.
Dungeon & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves just a great representation of D&D IMO and very clever too. I hope there is a sequel to this.
Deadpool & Wolvering : hilarious and fun. I would agree the story is not that strong and it's a cameofest catering to fans but it's done so well.

- Thanks for your answers drew.
I have seen the new Batman (meh) and Tenet (way too slick) on your list.
I haven't seen No Time To Die, Top Gun Maverick, Mission Impossible (I really don't like Tom Cruise), Uncharted (a good video game-based movie?), Ford Vs, Ferrari, Deadpool 3 or Sisu, so I can't comment on those.
I didn't include any animated stuff because there is so much of it and most of it is pretty good.
I totally forgot about the Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves movie. That was really good (best movie of 2023?). It had good acting, story and action and was faithful to the role-playing game. That one should have been on my list too.Bruce McKinlay
