  • Apologies if this is in the incorrect place within these forums, I'll happily move it to the right location if need be. Now, to get on with the reason for posting. For years one of my family members has been trying to identify a comic book she read when she was a child (in the range of mid-late 1980's). I've had a lot of success with a forum that helps identify books, but no such luck with comics, until another member on that forum directed me here. I've come to ask your community if you may have some information to help me finally identify this comic so it can be laid to rest.

    Known information is as follows:

Main character is male, has white hair (extremely likely/guaranteed)
Main character likely a warlock or mage of some kind
Main character possibly a practitioner of alchemy as well, comic covered some topics of alchemy
Main character MAY BE named "Alistair" or some variant, but this is where the memory grows fuzzy so that may not be correct.

Comics we know for sure it is not:
    Warlord by DC

    Blackstone Master Magician

other then that need more info...is he human or a parody character or something like elfquest or animal people...

can you remember anything about poses on cover or anything...more info the better

  • Not a prestidigitator, but a genuine book and spells type of magician. Hair is long, sleek and white, cover usually depicted him, may have had a star or pentagram on the cover? He is human, not an alternate race or parody.

Sorry it's so vague, it's been a long time.

  • Thank you for trying, but so far no luck. I guess it was pretty obscure, it's unusually difficult to find, it seems

  • Maybe you're thinking of some of First's Elric comics? They're from the middle/late 80's and are somewhat obscure. He was more of a warrior, but he also used magic and there was plenty of magic in the stories. . .

Some interior art to see if it might jog a memory. . .

Even if they aren't the ones you're thinking of they are well worth a read and might just scratch your family member's itch for flowing white hair and sorcery.

  • I can't think of any suspects but I really do hope the community can help you find this mystery warlock/mage/alchemist fella. I feel like this Elric book that Atom mentioned could be a solid contender!

  • Atom, that's exactly it! I gave her the title and it didn't ring any bells, but as soon as she saw the imagery it clicked. Doubly sure because it's Michael Moorcock, and both of us are huge sci-fi readers so it would make sense that her first comic ever would be something relating to an author she's very comfortable with. Thank you so much, everyone, for your dedication and assistance.

NICE! Glad to help. Those are some great under-the-radar comics, especially the ones with P. Craig Russell on art. Very Happy

  • Great job, Atom!! The artwork you provided reminded me that I have a copy of the second ever Marvel Graphic Novel from 1982. It is titled: Elric the Dreaming City with a story by Rascally Roy Thomas and exquisite art from P. Craig Russell. It is a real treasure.
