It's not listed on CBR, but there was a variant cover to Amazing Spider-Man Super Special #1 that was a swipe. Here's a link to a page showing it: http://www.greatlakesavengers.com/swipes/spider-man-01.htm#

And here's a (completed) eBay auction of the issue "in the wild": https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574961614&toolid=10001&campid=5336824214&customid=cbrf&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2Fthe-Amazing-Spider-Man-Super-Special-part-1-Scarlet-Spider-Planet-Symbiotes-9-5-%2F271660210492%3Fpt%3DUS_Comic_Books%26hash%3Ditem3f4035d93c

I feel dumb...I have seen the Scarlet Spider side of that and have looked and looked. Now that I see that is the rear of the Super Special...I feel like an idiot. At least I know what I am looking for now. Thanks!

To everyone else...keep them coming...new and old...I want a good copy of them all.

Wolverine number 18 variant cover, and Punks the comic number 4 are both covers you are missing. I used to own the GI Joeb special and chromium spiderman 1. I am kicking myself for selling them.

I have picked up the Wolverine 18 and Punks 1. On top of those, there is 2 variants to Secret Wars #1 and 2 Choo Variants to Amazing Spider-Man Vol 3 #1 (one is Australian Supanova B&W variant..not shown on ComicBookRealm).

I did pick up the Scatterbrain. It was by far the most difficult book to find. I ended up getting a reply from a guy on eBay, that he had a NM- copy. I offered him $25 (he dug around for 2 hours for a $3 book), which he declined. We settled on $15 (he knew it was a $3 book)!

This one is borderline to me. What do y'all think?

The pose is close, but he is looking up and holding onto sword.

Do you know what the comic is with the jungle girl on the cover? There were 2 from there I did not have (they are on the way now). I cannot figure out what the jungle girl one is... I naturally searched through a couple thousand Grimm Fairy Tales covers but to no avail.

Scratch that, junobeach replied in another thread...it is Sheena: Queen of the Jungle #3c Tim Seeley Cover

Hand position is questionable but is definitely influenced heavily. My rule is, if it is on a list of swipes for SP 1, I need it in the set. This one is a heck of a lot closer than Mighty Mouse. If you are building a collection of swipes and include this, there are 3 versions. The one you pic'd above is the regular, than there is the Platinum version (1000 copies), and the red version (750 copies). I got the plat and reg off eBay for $13 and the red through another connection for $8.

Great list, It helped me find a couple that I was missing. I have couple not on this list.

critter #4c and is by big dog ink (convention exclusive but is still available on their website)

spider gwen #1 (comic pop exclusive)

I know the spider gwen pose isn't exact but its closer than the mighty mouse one.

Also if you hear of another issue of scatterbrain being available I would appreciate a heads up. I will let you know if I come across any more.

Im going to ask but the scatterbrain isn't a back cover like the scarlet spider is it?
Posted: July 15, 2015 4:56:47 pm
I was all ready to post saying I didn't feel quite like the Spider-Gwen was an homage, but on their website they refer to it as being an homage. If that was the intent, then it is certainly close enough to count.

They say:

"THIS IS OUR SPECIAL McFARLANE SPIDER MAN #1 HOMAGE COVER BY JENNY (REVIVAL) FRISON!"

Mighty Mouse...not so much.

It is a front cover... I have seen it referenced as #1, #4c, & #1d. Make sure you are looking for the Markosia Scatterbrain series... there is another series by the same name but different publisher.

http://comicbookrealm.com/series/14157/0/

CBR shows it as #1! I eventually want to add cover scans to this list to help people out more!

Both lists in this thread have been updated adding ASM 689b, Critters 4c + 4d, and Spider-Gwen 1re! Keep them coming as you find them... this is exactly what I was hoping for.

I am not a huge comic guy anymore...I lost my childhood ----> early adult collection in a fire 11 years ago. It took me about 5 years before I bought my first comic afterwards; it was a McFarlane signed Silver Spider-Man #1 to replace my favorite cover of all time. I now have about 300 comics (some pretty good keys and other covers I like) but the basis of my collection is Spider-Man #1 and all the homage covers (approx. 50 of my 300 comics). It is forums like this that help me continue this obsession! Thanks to everyone participating, you are more help than you know!

I hate to be this guy but critter 4c (Tucson con exclusive) isnt a homage cover. 4d has 2 covers, one regular limited to 250 and a 3D one limited to 100

Be that guy... I want this as accurate as possible. According to the pic on here for the Tucson variant... it is a swipe. I bought both from big dog ink and both were marked as New York versions but as I said above....I am a niche collector at this point. I went by what's on here so people can try to reference them using the site. I will do some more digging and adjust the list.

Are you looking at the right image? That's 100% an homage right down to the yarn looking like webbing. The artist even copied the McFarlane signature box and credited him.

The 2 homage Critter issues are from the New York Comic Con - the logo is on each of the covers. It appears the CBR listings are incorrect as the NYCC and Tucson images are swapped.

I think CBR may have the wrong image for #4c is what he is saying. I bought them straight from Big Dog and they are both advertised as NYCC variants...the reg variant and a 3d variant. They dont say anything about Tucson. However, I based my list on what I found on here.

Here is what 4c should be....I think:

Ah, I see - CBR has the cover there twice. The NYCC one is the homage.

Exactly...and there is actually 2 different #4d covers..reg and 3d. I redid the list and showed them both as NYCC variants and labeled them as #4d & #4e.

junobeach, thanks again for identifying that Sheena cover. In case you did not know or notice, there is a B&W sketch variant to that as well if you are chasing these!

All, as I stated to tabin78, please correct me on anything you think is incorrect or incomplete. I am not here for pride or to claim I know all... I am here to build and share the most complete SP1 swipe collection and list I can. Swipes are a tough game. Based on all the "lists" and blogs I could find, I thought my swipes were up to date 2 months ago at 21 comics. The list is now at 34 with more of the 13 new ones being back issues, meaning nobody put them into a easily findable list. My goal is to have them all, but while doing so, making it easier for the next guy/gal to start building a set for themselves.

No, I'm not chasing them. But I do like reading about people who are 'specialists' and collect certain niches like yours.

I've been collecting these cover swipes for years, thought I was the only 1, so glad I found this site, I now have a few more to add to my list.
I also collect any varients, that I know are not swipes, but look so cool. Platinum, silver, gold, gold UPC, bagged versions etc.

What are others views on these? I have a few more to add to the list depending on how pure a swipe u are looking for?.

I also have both varients of critters I can post pictures of if your unsure on the numbers, but they are certainly swipes

List whatever you think belongs and maybe we can see what everyone thinks... there are some reaches on my list as well. That is why I started this thread. My list is the most complete I have ever come across and wish I could have found. It is as much for the community as it is for me, so I want the community included. I want the help to keep this thing going.... so bring on whatever you think belongs and let's discuss it... keep this thread at the top of the list!!!

Simonjtaylor69: I also have all the originals, including the Gold w/UPC Walmart cover as well as 3 of them signed. I don't list them because I feel like anyone making a swipe list is aware of all the original variations by now and only water the list down. They are easy to research, there is no singular place to get a comprehensive list of swipes. There are tons of lists but all with the same 8 core swipes and maybe 3 others that differ site to site. There are quite a few I have never seen on a list anywhere. Hopefully you will add to that.

I've double checked your list twice and hope these are not already listed but I have these in my collection. I can post pics

Sonic the hedgehog no 95 by Archie comics (very similar to mighty mouse)

Radioactive man Jan 1995 by bongo comics

The avengers unconquered marvel collectors edition 27th April 2011 (panini comics) different to already mentioned avengers unconquered

The complete spiderman (free giveaway with amega version of spiderman game from 1990.) Boxes on front cover are empty and its half as thick as standard version

I have listed these I found trying to research but not confirmed they exist...
Chikora 2007
Assassins creed 2
Amazing skin 1/2a 1995 bill Maus

Let me know you thoughts?

I had my hands on scatterbrain but the seller wanted £40 postage, wish I just paided it now, so hard to find

Here are the 3 you are researching. Two are fake, the other is real:

This one is fake

This one is real - it is called Skin 13 and mycomicshop.com has it for $1.30.

Not sure which Radioactive Man you were looking at. I didn't see one that fits the bill.

Here is the Sonic issue. I agree that it is similar to the Mighty Mouse -- both of which I don't think count.

I think both mighty mouse and sonic probably count more as a parody cover than a swipe.

For me as I'm collecting varient covers aswell, which technically are not swipes, I think they are a great addition to my collection.

Maybe the list should be split into varients/ swpies/ parodys.

I also have the blue lizard error addition and plan on getting the diamond retailers edition, even though it's a tpb.

Thanks for pointing out the fakes, at least it's 1 added to the list

So...based on the limited discussion here and my personal goal of the list, I am adding Skin 13 #1a, Avengers Unconquered #30, and Sonic the Hedgehog #95 on my next update.

We obviously do not need to discuss the fakes (Assassins Creed and Chikara).

As far as the Radioactive Man, I cannot find an image, reference, or anything referencing or showing a swipe. I am chalking that one up as a mistake (they do swipe a Spawn cover) unless you can show us where we need to look.

Complete Spider-Man video game giveaway, I personally, am going to say no. I am leaning that way due to the fact that it really isn't recognized as a comic anywhere. A line has to drawn somewhere or we are going to have to include bubble gum wrappers, sunglasses, and drink koozies.

As for the sore thumbs (Mighty Mouse and Sonic), Mighty Mouse makes the list because it is one of the more referenced "swipes/parodies" and has been on lists longer than almost every other one. Sonic therefore has to make it by default. They are both clearly influenced by the cover and, as with anything like this, the list is subjective to some extent....you can't please everyone.

All that said, this is still an open forum. If anyone disagrees with my choices of what to add or not, feel free to present your argument. I have not drawn any lines in the sand and am open to discussion. Keep bringing anything else you find here so we can keep this thread rolling!

Regarding Avengers Unconquered #30...it is a foreign book, and that is one of the lines I have drawn for myself not to include in my core collection. Opening up foreign markets to your list can be a slippery slope. My 2 cents.

af15: I agree, however, the list is for anybody and that is why they are included (same reasoning for Mighty Mouse and Sonic). This isn't a checklist per say, more of a reference. I only have 3 foreign books listed and all are Marvel or Marvel UK. I don't anticipate adding any foreign books that are not Marvel. I get it though, we are approaching 40 covers now and at some point, where do you draw the line? That's why I would consider this as more of a reference. If you don't do foreign books, parodies, non-marvel , etc...you can ignore them, and I have supplied the info to quickly make those choices. On the other hand, if you want it all, it's all right here too.

Do you have a suggestion as to a way to present the list simply, that could better portray some of these things? If we can get enough participation, we could come up with a list of true, undeniable swipes and then have an add-on 2nd list that would be the rest...like a "Your Preference" section. Then Mighty Mouse and Sonic could go there as parodies, the 2 Marvel UK and AU Supanova could go there as foreign, and any other questionable but broadly accepted covers could go there as well. What does everyone think? I don't want to go crazy breaking the list apart but this seems reasonable if everyone agrees or even cares.

That's a tough one to go with IMO. His 2nd foot isn't grounded...he is lunging more than crouching. Maybe as a loose parody but even Mighty Mouse and Sonic has the webbing. I am highly inclined to leave this out, but as usual, I would like some feedback from the community before it is ruled out, to be fair to you.

Don't know how to post pictures.... Hope the link to radioactive man works. I found it referenced as a swipe in a few places and its real cause I own 1.

I agree about foreign copies I found a Turkish version a few weeks ago, but I think once I have this list I will collect them, u have a foreign list hidden somewhere.

As for the amega give away, it is a real comic, normal size, printed on paper.yes its a promo give away and I have only ever found 1 reference to it on site by a Dutch guy. I emailed him and he told me its origin. It might not be referenced because of its rarity. It differs that it's shorter in lenght only 20 pages instead of 90 and the boxes on the front are just blank.

I know its subjective but its a swipe that probably has more merrit than some on the list.

If someone can tell me how to post pics I'll put some on

I agree radioactive man is loose at best but the signature box bottom right swung it for me

Avengers unconquered panini is a UK comic but as I'm in England it makes my list

Copy and paste the link for the picture from the address bar of your browser, then highlight the whole link with your mouse, and hit the image button below the text box between "underline" and "url".

Exactly right on both counts... I meant to counter the signature panel comment defending it above with the fact that McFarlane has used that similar signature panel a ton. I just couldn't place the cover... as soon as you said Spawn 1 I saw it.

I, also, like that we are getting some steam... would like to see a few more start coming in but I like the group of lingerers (<------ is that a word?) we have here so far. Damn near doubled the list in a matter of a couple months. I also like that this thread is popping up towards the top of any kind of McFarlane/swipe search through browsers and search engines.

I really want to thank everyone that has participated thus far... you all kick ass (no comic pun intended)!

Simonjtaylor: After contemplating the list, I am considering adding the Amiga Giveaway of The Complete Spider-Man... to make the list, I need the month and year of publication and the publisher (Marvel or Marvel UK). I am going to break a few comics from the list as fringe comics and this will be one since you had to buy a video game to get it. Also, I need a copy, so if you come across another, please consider your boy here! If you know of it's value, I can give you my price range if you come across one... I am good for it and am willing to pay reasonable costs (over book) to get it here.

ALL: As I stated above, I am going to break a few of these off to a 2nd list that will be posted with the main list. It is to contain anything foreign (non US), loose parodies, and anything on the debatable side. I would like input from a couple of you guys/gals to make this a consensus list. Can a couple of you please post the issues you would put in the fringe list (I will put my personal choices below). I would like to post an updated list by this Friday. Keep in mind Sonic the Hedgehog #95, Avengers Unconquered #30 (Marvel UK), Skin 13 #1/2a, and The Complete Spider-Man (Amiga Game Giveaway) are not reflected on the current lists yet.

My Fringe List Choices:
**The Complete Spider-Man #1 (Marvel UK w/ Patch) [Dec 90'; Marvel UK] *foreign

**The Complete Spider-Man NO# (Amiga PC Game Giveaway) [Marvel] *video game giveaway

**Mighty Mouse #6 [Mar 91'; Vol. 2; Marvel] *parody

**Sonic the Hedgehog #95 [June 01'; Archie] *parody

**Avengers Unconquered #30 [Apr 11'; Marvel UK] *foreign

**Amazing Spider-Man Vol:3 #1? (Choo B&W Supanova AU Variant) [June 14'; Vol. 3; Marvel] *foreign

**Spider-Gwen #1re (Warp 9 Exclusive Variant) [Apr 15'; Marvel] *close enough pose?

I am inclined to add the (3) Wolfskin covers to the list but the pose is very close. Any thoughts... let me know what you would add or take away and why. As I said, I would like to get the new list put up by this Friday/Saturday so any help would be appreciated.

If nobody adds or debates it, I will go forward with it myself but I don't want to hear any chirping after the fact if you don't give input and end up disagreeing.

The foreign* issue is interesting for me. I also collect the original amazing spiderman and have never cared if they are pence (d) priced or $ priced. As so many UK and US comics are so close do u consider UK versions as *foreign for the list....? If there was u US only version for me I wouldn't count that as foriegn half of my collection is shipped from US

Maybe bit of a side track there!

Amega version was purchased by mistake. It was advertised as the complete spiderman and cost me 99p. When it arrived it didn't look right and I started to dig a bit. The seer had no info
Inside cover says complete spiderman published by marvel comics 13/15 Arundel street London wc2 copyright 1990 marvel entertainment group.
Only 20 pages and only tells part 1 of torment.

I found 1 reference to it on a comic list site with 1000,s listed by a peter kroon. I emailed him and he replied with the source and said it was very rare.
I've never seen another 1 listed

It's an issue here... mainly bc 98% of the comics sold here are from here. When there is a $5 book that was foreign released... shipping starts around $14...for a $5 book. Not to mention, it's hard as hell for us to find them because there is no one-stop shop that carries worldwide comics. Every store here sells American books almost solely. I think when you combine that all together, it turns the US customer off. Whereas for you, you simply don't have the choice... especially collecting American super-heroes. A UK version for you is awesome... for us... it's a pain in the a** that costs 5X too much with more time than we should have to dedicate to a $5 book. I tried picking up a Avengers Unconquered the other day from a UK store and they want $18.97 US to ship it... while asking around $3 for the actual comic. Now..consider for us, it's basically a rip-off cover because it is an exact copy of our Dark Avengers #11 and came out 14 months later. A line has to be drawn somewhere. Personally, in this situation (SP1 Swipes), I don't go outside of Marvel when a book is foreign. I have a feeling when/if other countries get bigger into the comic scene and this is more regular, I will cut out foreign books all together. I don't need the Bangladesh equivalent to Dark Avengers #11.

Cool thanks great to hear a different point of view. I've had similar experiences. Getting critters 3d and no hero cost me 3x as much to ship as the comic cost.
I'm never going to sell these so doesn't bother me too much.
I would say though the prices for things being sold in the UK are sometimes much lower, u can get a bargin.
Just won GI Joe special number 1 for £20, been after this for a while cheapest US I've seen $80
I got blue lizard error for £5 last year US around $150 US
I'm still waiting to find gold UPC Walmart edition listed by somebody who doesn't know what it is or how much its worth.

I don't know about not including the Amazing Spider-Man Vol:3 #1? (Choo B&W Supanova AU Variant) as it is just a convention exclusive. I feel that it should still be in the main list or there would need to be a separate list for variants and con exclusives.

To further my defence of the amazing spiderman vol 3 #1. It may have been a Australian convention exclusive but I can only find it for sale in the U.S. so even though I live in Australia I am being smashed with the price of postage to get one.

The only way I found the Scatterbrain, was I messaged anyone selling any Scatterbrain Markosia for the better part of a year and a half. I finally found someone absolutely awesome enough to dig through 1000s of their comics and found it for me. I have never seen it listed while active (sure I missed a couple). By far the hardest one to find for me. I have a feeling finding the Amiga giveaway Complete Spider-Man is going to be the same way too. That's all I need to complete the list, including the fringe comics.

All I need to complete my list is
scatterbrain (its going to be a race to who sees it first)
spawn 231b
and Marvel Collectible Classics

I don't know how bothered I am about the fringe list. I have the mighty mouse but if im honest I really don't like it and im reluctant to get the sonic one because I see it as being a homage of a parody. Maybe im just being weird.

I may have to put the Marvel Collectible Classics on the back burner as well. My OCD says I must have it but my bank balance says calm down.

You can pick up collectable classics for a good price. Check out some of the UK listings on eBay. I got a second copy for £45 to resell and made a bit of profit, I've seen a few listings well below the us prices
Posted: August 5, 2015 7:25:27 pm
I bought the original Platinum (2nd copy... resold for 140.00), the gold w/ upc Walmart, and the Collectible Classics as a lot off eBay about 1 year ago for $530 shipped. So, I ended up paying $390 for the Gold w/ UPC and the Collectible Classics... I was happy with that!!!

Off topic... but is anyone else getting semi-excited for the new Deadpool movie? Just watched the new trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyKWUTwSYAs...and as much as I am trying not to (Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern affect), I am slowly getting hyped to watch it. I am a product of the 80s and 90s so Spider-Man, Punisher, and Moon Knight have always been my favorite "heroes", but as far as more modern characters (yes... I realize he appeared in the 90s...he wasn't on my radar), he has flown up my list of favorites and is right in the mix with the aforementioned 3.

Yeah, im looking forward to seeing how it turns out, I hope they do a good job and people go and see it. I was aware of deadpool in the 90's but only started reading his stuff about 5 years ago and he has shot up my list of favourite hero's'. he's up there now with wolverine, hulk and batman. Also I read the complete hellblazer and preacher comics recently and have since become big fans of those, I was disappointed when the Constantine series wasn't picked up for a second series.

How about this one? I would put it along with the spider Gwen.

Gotta say...if the Spider-Gwen issue counts, it would be hard not to count this one too. It's not a direct rip of Spider-Man #1, but it is similar.

It is close to Spider-Gwen....which is on the fringe list. We can add this to the fringe list if we are in agreement. People can decide for themselves how far they want to interpret some of these.

Holy cow, £600 for an ungraded unsigned comic that was given away free with a game. I'm sorry sir but you are definitely a dreamer. I shall just continue my hunt for scatterbrain and spawn 231b.

I shall also keep an eye out for any more covers that fit and would also like to thank everyone for helping with what I have found as the most comprehensive list of homage covers.

It's legit...I found a sale on eBay for $35. Most of these variants are out of a miniscule amount (/125, /150, /250) and were for particular CA based shows. I havent locked down the print run of this particular one but it looks like its going to be a tough one!!!

I have been reaching out to some of my guys for 1 or more copies! I will post here if I find multiple copies. I have one guy that thinks he may have at least one copy, but it could be up to 2 weeks for him to locate in his collection. Outside of cold calling, this maybe one we all have to chase for a while. I will be sure to post any updates. What is your limit on this in case I fall into a now or never situation with multiple copies (you can message me if you don't want to post)? I can pick up and we can figure it out (I would only ask the add'l shipping to get the copy to you...not into comics for profit).

I also have requests out for add'l copies of the Scatterbrain...I will post if I can locate one of those as well. Obviously, our own collections are priority for each of us involved in this thread, but we should all be looking to help each other out on some of these tougher covers once our holes are filled. The more eyes we have out there, the better for all!

I agree...it's getting to the point where anyone crouching is being considered...as I said, these 2 seem fringe at best. I will also be damned if I am dropping that kind of money on a 1/50 variant bc it is on the fringe.

I am waiting on my copy of Oxymoron to come in for the publishing info and I will post. My copy of Captain's Jolting Tales came yesterday. The new additions will be the aforementioned 2 plus Dead Pooh #3? to the main list! I don't plan on adding either Warlord of Mars or the Superior Spider-Man unless I am convinced otherwise... not even to the fringe list. I will however add these to a list of debunked ones I will keep so we can rule them out easier in the future. Expect the updated list in the next few days!

Simonjtaylor69: Sorry the pic above took a little longer...my son had a trampoline accident and bit off a chunk of lip. As you can see...all 4 are questionable at best and may even get moved in the near future to my add'l debunked list I have started (only the 2 that were discussed over the weekend on it now....not substantial enough to add yet). I own every comic on both lists except the newly added Dead Pooh and The Complete Spiderman Amiga PC giveaway on the fringe list so let me know if you need a pic of anything else and I will get to you when I can.

All: I have updated both lists (original post and pg. 6) to reflect the addition of 3 new comics to the main list (The Captain's Jolting Tales, Dead Pooh, and Oxymoron: The Loveliest Nightmare).

tabin78: Comics are the minor part of my collection... I collect mainly sports cards/memorabilia and horror movie memorabilia. I cannot bring myself to open anything that comes sealed in packaging. Even though this car will never carry significant value, my OCD would never allow me to open it. I wish I could... but my mind tells me my hands will catch fire if I do. So I am stuck with a neon green VW!!!

Update....I have my top comic finder and 8 Los Angeles, CA based comic stores on the hunt for Dead Pooh #3. I have found out this is a CA publisher that only released at CA Cons. This particular one is from a Stan Lee Comikazy Con in/around LA. I have nothing yet, but want to know who is guaranteed in if I find them. I have a request to all for 1-4 copies, but somebody is going to be fronting the cashola on this and I don't want anyone to screw themselves. You can private message me or reply here if you are comfortable.... but I need to know who is in GUARANTEED and their limit on the book. If the books have to come from me, as I stated before, I am not looking for a profit but will ask purchase price plus shipping. It may be a situation where I hook you up directly with a store/individual too.... we will see what happens. If you find the book on your own after confirming with me, please let me know ASAP! Also, if you find it on your own... see if there are add'l copies for us all... which I know you will.... all of you have been absolutely awesome!!!!!

Okay....I am ready to announce! I have spent the last 3 days reaching out heavily and have gotten hooked up with the 2 artists of Dead Pooh directly. They are out of town for a Con but will be returning home next week. They know they have copies but do not know how many until they return. They sell these themselves directly at Cons, which is why they are so limited and hard to find. As of right now, I am going to order 4 copies if they have them, if they have more and people reach out to me, I will get add'l copies. The only thing some may or may not like, all the remaining copies are signed by both artists, Jacob Bear and Marat Mychaels. I could care less at this point and seeing as how I am getting them straight from the artist, authenticity is not an issue for me. I will get them out to you guys at $40 plus shipping costs. It will be a couple weeks before I can have them in hand so there is plenty of time.

As of right now, here is the priority list for copies....depending on the # of copies I can get (I hope it's more than one or I will feel like a total tool), this is the order the add'l copies will be doled out (by order of response....fairest way to do it without a bidding war)....

1) Tabin78
2) Simonjtaylor69
3) crackerjack1979
4) ????

As I said, I don't know how many they have because they don't know. If you want one, post and I will extend this list until we find out. It's first come, first serve!

Wow great work,
Not a fan of signed comics but tottaly agree that these are soooo hard to find and its actually quite a cool story.... A group of fans came together on a forum and managed to get them straight from the artist, love it.

Thanks for the hard work you put in, prob take pride of place in my collection

I wont get my hopes up just yet, but I want to express my extreme gratitude for your hard work.

I also want to thank everyone who has contributed to this list, as in the last year I have gone from 7 covers swipes to over 40.

As for the signature I have to say that as someone who has spent a few hours lining up at conventions im not that fussed about having them, especially as this will just become a harder issue to find.

In February Marvel will be releasing a bunch of Michael Cho variant covers, if you Google image search that it looks li one of the spiderman covers has him in a familiar pose.

I feel like it's just spidey crouching...only see 1 knee...hands are wrong....he is looking the wrong way. Personally, this falls inline with the Spider-Gwen Vol 1 #1s...at best a fringe comic....imo. Unless I am looking at the wrong one.

I have added Assassins Creed #001 to the list.... and my collection. I am 70% of the way through Syndicate.... Level 10....all boroughs conquered....so that's exciting too... haha!!!

shvd98z24 is correct rpenny88, I do collect all Spider-Man homage covers -- 300 and AF15 included. I don't yet have an easily identified list of what I have, but there are quite a few of both of those. I'm working on cataloging my books though.

I spotted said vw a while ago and did some digging trying to find out if it was a mini comic, cause let's face it that would be cool. I found it listed as coming with a free trading card, not so cool.
Can anyone confirm it is a mini comic?

Just want to thank all of you again for making this pipe dream of a list come to fruition. I just came to the thread the long way and realized this thing has almost 10,000 views.....in less than 10 months....thats 1000 views a month. I am no moderator, but I am sure CBR likes having a thread that hangs around and creates page clicks like this one does. Kudos to all of you for your dedication, endurance, and loyalty!!! I am blown away at what we have done and can't wait to see what's coming down the road.

As general updates, still waiting on Jacob Bear on the Dead Pooh #3....I have faith he is doing what he has said he would and is diligently looking for his remaining copies...we need to understand he is a busy guy...patience will pay off...I know it. I also still have my guys beating around for some more copies of the Markosia Scatterbrain....that's a tough ass book...but I will keep trying for everyone.

Thank you for starting the thread, I would be happy with my original 8 swipes but now its 40+. Once it gets to a point of slowing down I will get a pic of them all lined up but at the minute while im waiting for one of the comics to turn up another turns up on the list that I have to order and I have to wait for that to turn up.

The recent purchase of dead pooh has financially done me in, once converted to Australian dollars I have spent more than $300 on the 3 comics (I think its a bargain but the wife disagrees) so if it takes another week or 2 for Jacob to find the comics im fine with that.

I think a pat on the back all round and here's to discovering some more hidden gems.

Tabin: sounds like you are out of the running but......

So the guy hooking us up with the Dooh You Pooh issues also has another gem for someone....it is the original 11" x 17" art by Mychael Marat for the Spider-Gwen homage cover....link to pic on my photo bucket and his contact are below.....he is asking $400 but is pretty negotiable on that number if paid by PayPal....

From talking to him the last few days, he actually knows Marat and Bear personally and quite well. When I told him we were working on the Dead Pooh #3, he said he thought he may be able to get them.... when I mentioned I am already working with Jacob Bear directly, he told me that would have been his source. He says he has a lot of Marat original art, so if anyone's a fan, feel free to hit him up and see what he has!!! I am all about creating relationships and connections. Having this guy and Bear on my list could prove fruitful in the future for us.... at least for Bear and Marat art/covers. As I said before, I rely heavily on all of you and the connections I make for these comics.... most of my free time is chasing down sports and horror collectibles.

I will private message each of you when they are here to work out payment and shipping. If you need a little extra time bc of money, I understand and can accomodate a reasonable amount of time. An unreasonable amount of time means you will be bidding for it on eBay....I have a wife too....haha. Anyone else, still get in touch...there may be more issues but for now, he found 4 copies.

All...I have updated both lists adding the new Do You Pooh one-shots and variants.

Tabin and Simon...there is a chromium version of these coming out in 2 weeks as well as "artist proofs" (made my feelings clear on them to you guys). I did pre-pay for the chromium (w/ matching serial # to my others) but not the AP. I have reflected the existence of the APs but did not make them a separate comic in the list update. They claim this is the end of the line for the Marat homages.

I don't mind having a beatup copy of something rare so it's represented in my collection but that's too much for me. By looking at the box the game comes in, you would think thet have to be folded, but that one looks like there is a sizable tear/missing chunk. The other copy on there for over $900US (£600) doesn't look as if it was ever folded either.

Mine has a fold across the middle. the comic isn't that thick and it's not split or caused any damage. It is visible close up.
I'll keep my eye out for a better copy

Is anyone else looking for spawn 231b as over the last 2 days I have sent nearly 60 emails to various sources in the UK and the US (I also spent half my work day phoning comic stores in Australia but they all say ebay is the best bet) and on the extremely lucky off chance I hit gold more than once I wanted to see if anyone else needed a copy?

I just got myself a copy of Marvel Collectible Classics: Spider-Man #2 (Front & Rear - Chromium) for $250 plus $38 postage (USD)

Would this be considered a decent price for this? the cheapest I had seen it go for recently was $300 but I wanted to see if you guys thought that was high or that what it sells for now.
Posted: December 14, 2015 2:45:18 pm
A brought a second copy 4 months ago for £75 on mint condition to resell and got £145 for it
Posted: December 14, 2015 2:46:44 pm
They are getting harder to find now though. When they come up for auction privetly prices seem to be lower than shops selling buy it now
Posted: December 14, 2015 3:03:11 pm
I bought the Marvel Collectible Classics #2, Platinum (2nd copy to resell...got $120 usd), and the gold Wal-Mart w/UPC for $450 usd (eBay Best Offer w/in 30 mins of listing) about a year and a half ago or so. So basically $330 for the chromium and Wal-Mart gold and felt like I absolutely stole them.

Zubair has the chromium Do You Poohs in hand and will be shipping to all who ordered shortly. He says they are amazing and if you take them out of bag and board, you may want to use gloves! I was pretty impressed with the metal covers so hopefully these are just as impressive, if not more so!!!

Wow! This is great! I found this forum after finding Do You Know Pooh existed. I just ordered my AP copies...bummed the Metal variant was sold out by the time I found out about it. Congrats to those that was able to get one.

Thanks to this list, I found more that I still need. One that I don't see on the list is Nightcrawler 1 (2014 4th Series). I didn't read through the whole thread, so sorry in advance if this was already brought up. You can see it in a video I made of what I had as of last April:

This recently was released and I would not say it is an homage. Close, but not close enough. What does everyone else think?

I think this should count. I look for 2 characteristics when I choose to add it to my collection:
1) The pose: if they are crouched down, one arm straight down the middle, and the other arm resting on the knee with the hand dangling. (which this one is definitely doing).
2) The SP1-like spiderweb background that the character is tangled in. (my reasons to pick up Dark Avengers, Marvel Zombies, Mighty Mouse, and now thanks to this list...Sonic the Hedgehog. Plus Sonic's web looks like McFarlane's spaghetti webbing! Very Happy )

If either of these are on the cover, it counts as an homage cover for me. For these reasons, as much as I want to add more to my collection, I had to pass on Amazing Spiderman 689 and Wolfskin 1 since their hands aren't resting on their knee. And Spawn 200...man, I love the cover. Two of my favorite artists coming together. But this one...it's SO close, but the hand resting on his knee is turned upwards. Brick wall

Welcome to the thread! First things first, the Heroes Vengeance #3 is still up for discussion as there has been no input since it's original post on here. It has NOT been excluded. I will also open the forum to Nightcrawler #1b. Any and all opinions are welcome and we go from there.

As far as Wolfskin....that was a tough one but what sealed it for me, is if you overlay SP1 with it, the knees, shoulders, feet, and head are dead on in position with the only differences being the hand holding the sword, which would otherwise be right there on the knee, that his head is looking up, and the support hand is moved inline with the feet. Every cover can be knitpicked (Spawn 200 is an inverse of the pose with his arm slightly off the knee) but if you overlay the images, Wolfskin is actually one of the most accurate swipes. Amazing Spiderman 689 made it through the vetting process... don't know that I was for it but enough people wanted it on. That's how this works....I don't want to be a dictator... trying to make a comprehensive list that people can make their own choices with but includes as much as possible w/out letting in any image of someone squatting. The fringe/debatable list is newer and at some point, some of these above could work there way down to that list.

This post started about a year ago with 10 comics and has grown to this. We are still figuring it all out. I hope you stick around and join into this thread. There are a ton of people who check it, but only a handful that contribute. Any and all input is appreciated and considered!

Oh snap! I didn't even think about overlaying the image! Mind-blown...Shocked

Adding a third to my criteria list. If I haven't said it already...this forum is awesome.

fully agreed that this forum is awesome. I appreciate everones opinion and love it when a new homage cover gets found (i have now purchased the fed and blue nightcrawler #1)

On a whole i am happy with the list so far but i have gone on record how i feel about mighty mouse and sonic. i have the mighty mouse as i feel it is a parody of SP1 but i doubt i will get sonic as i feel it is a homage of a parody (just my opinion)

But thats the glory of this list, and it just keeps getting bigger.

In all fairness Tabin, I moved both to the fringe list! I can't get rid of them completely, especially Mighty Mouse, because they are staples of other lists for SP1 swipes. There is just no making some people happy....sheez!!! Haha!

Have been away for like a week and missed so much.

I don't think nightcrawler is a swipe, but as its on the list I will have to buy it now.
Ordered chromium do you pooh today, so if you don't have it get it now. Any one else have any thoughts?
Well come to Ben, nice video.

After New Years, I a going to pull them all out and do a side by side on all these and move some things around (expand the fringe list). I will repost the adjusted list so we can discuss and fiddle with it, and then replace the existing list with it....sound good??? I will put reasoning of why anything is taken from main list to fringe for discussion sake as well!

What about a
swipe list (exact copy) scatterbrain, gijoe, ant man, dead pooh etc
Homage list (very close and obvious influence) spider Gwen,
Parody ( inspired by, mocking) sonic, mighty mouse
Foreign

That way people can pick how pure they want to keep the collection, and highlights the debatable in a separate category.?????

I am not opposed to doing a Swipe list with a separate Homage list but I would probably slide the parodies into the homage list. I still want a Fringe list and at some point, a Debunked list since the thread is getting pretty deep...I think in the near future, we will have some brought up that will have been discussed since people simply are not going to read this entire thread before posting. As far as foreign goes, that's a whole other level. There are tons of foreign variants, which as stated previously, I am not interested in. That said, I don't see why they shouldn't be shown for the super serious or foreign collector. I have no interest in taking it on though, so if someone else wants to maintain that list in this thread (Simon *cough *cough), more power to you! If I am sent the info, I would be more than happy to attach to my lists too so the can stay together in the thread. I just don't have the time or desire to do the legwork on foreign books that aren't Marvel based. Sorry guys/gals!

Just started new job so may take me a few weeks to pull it all together but I'm happy to do it if people want it

That would be great Simon! No rush or pressure...this gig doesn't pay...haha! Get in touch when you have something and we will assimilate it with my list. Once that's done, you can just send me any new info and I will update when I get time.

I have a new short box coming to put all my SP1s and swipes in...when it comes, I will start modifying the list and start sharing my changes for input from everyone! I don't like handling them more than necessary.

Now I might come across as a noob when I ask this question as I have been collecting these swipes for while but,
when it comes to the original 1990 cover what different versions are there. I have the regular, gold, silver and platinum versions (all with spidermans head instead of a barcode)

I have been looking around and have now pick up the regular and silver bagged versions and I got a regular version bagged with barcode in the bottom right.

I just want to know what I need to look out for.

Greta work on the lists by the way. I have relented and am now seeking a copy of the sonic as I want tho complete the list.

Tabin78: Here you go......

1990 Spider-Man #1 (McFarlane) Originals
- #1 - Green w/ Spidey Head (BAGGED)
- #1b - Green w/ UPC (BAGGED)
- #1c - Green w/ Spidey Head
- #1d - Green w/ UPC
- #1e - Silver w/ Spidey Head (BAGGED w/ $2 price)
- #1f - Silver w/ Spidey Head ($1.75 price)
- #1g - Gold w/ Spidey Head
- #1h - Gold w/ UPC (rare Wal-Mart version)
- #1i - Platinum w/ Silver Spidey Head (retailer incentive; comes with Marvel letter)

All are common and cheap with the exception of Gold w/UPC and Platinum. Neither are hard to find, but will cost you....especially the Gold w/ UPC Wal-Mart version.

Okay....the new list is in effect and has been updated on pgs 1, 6, and now, 24. The list has been segmented into what, in my judgement, are swipes. I have broke a few other issues off onto a homage/parody list and expanded the fringe list. The fringe list has grown the most as I added a handful of issues on there that once side by side to the originals, it would be hard to argue they are anything more than vaguely influenced.

I have also added a quick breakdown list of the originals to further help collectors. I think I took for granted that anyone interested in the swipes, would know the differences of the originals. This will also be an add'l aid for newer collectors of the originals and swipes.

As stated before, this is OUR list. Nothing I have done is chiseled in stone and I am always open to hear opinions. Always feel free to chime in!!!!!

Just realized as I looked over the list of Spider-Man #1 variants in the previous post, that there is one more version not included.

The Gold w/Spidey Head has a bagged version. I've got a sealed copy. It's a similar bag to the one found on the Green w/ Spidey head version.

There is no official bagged gold version. If you have a bagged gold, it is one of 2 things....a factory error, or bogus. A lot of people used to reseal these in carefully opened bags. Unless there is something I don't know, I would question the legitimacy of that bag belonging to that comic originally.

There are only 2 sales shown on eBay, both by the same guy claiming he has only seen 3 in 30 years.... but he sold 2 ten days apart. I would be interested to see how the overall length of your bag compares to a green bag. I would bet it's just a hair shorter from being resealed. I feel like I have always heard bagged gold are a scam and easy to pull off.

Good idea to check this. I pulled both out and it does appear that the bagged gold cover is slightly shorter - very slightly. It is conceivable it may be a bootleg copy. I just know that I picked it up ages ago in the 90's, and they weren't so rare back then. I also recall picking it up at a show, and not on Ebay back in its early years.

Yeah, I hear ya! I feel like when I was younger and my father had his sports card/comic stores (late 80s thru early 90s), the bagged golds were one of the scams I had heard. They (as in the a**holes, not my dad's shops) would hobby knife the bottom edge, slide the gold in, reburn/seal the bags, and pawn them off as factory errors....SUPER RARE! While I am sure there could be legit errors, how would you ever know if the bag is identical?!?! That said, even knowing it's a scam (notice the version is not shown in price guides or referenced anywhere), I would still want one....for the novelty of it...but I would just do it myself!

So in addition to the (likely bogus) gold bagged version that I had in my box, there are 2 other new variations of Spider-Man #1.

First off is a variation of the Silver w/ Spidey Head. The bagged version has no cover price, so we would need to have both a bagged and unbagged version of this one, along with the regular unbagged version that has a cover price.

The other one is the super rare version of the Silver w/ Spidey Head unbagged with cover price version that has the super rare misprint blue lizard inside.

So the list would look something like this:

#1 - Green w/ Spidey Head (BAGGED)
#1b - Green w/ UPC (BAGGED)
#1c - Green w/ Spidey Head
#1d - Green w/ UPC
#1e - Silver w/ Spidey Head (BAGGED w/ $2 price on bag and no cover price on book)
NEW #1 - Silver w/ Spidey Head (no cover price on book)
#1f - Silver w/ Spidey Head ($1.75 price)
NEW #1 - Silver w/ Spidey Head ($1.75 price with misprint blue lizard inside)
#1g - Gold w/ Spidey Head
NEW #1 - Gold w/ Spidey Head (bagged - likely fake)
#1h - Gold w/ UPC (rare Wal-Mart version)
#1i - Platinum w/ Silver Spidey Head (retailer incentive; comes with Marvel letter)

I realize everyone may want to keep the bagged gold version off the list for obvious reasons.

af15: Here are my thoughts...the originals I listed above are it...that's the accepted, undebated originals. This post isn't really about them either. The books you are referencing are not included bc they are either error/misprints or you would have to modify one from it's original release condition to add. If you have an unbagged silver, it should have a price! To me, that would be like selling you the book with the coupons cut out. Just my two cents.

Don't let that hit you the wrong way. It seems a bit standoffish when I read it and it's not meant that way...just a bit matter of fact. I am just to lazy to retype it....so don't take it wrong. You are free to collect and add whatever to your list...I am just not trying to mince the originals...as much as I love them.

No offense taken at all. Don't sweat that. I just wanted to point out the other variations for anyone else out there who collects every variation like I do. It's the sickness of a completist for sure.

The fox #1e, pose is right but the angle is head on and not from the side. What do you guys think?

Based on the new list and comparing similar covers, I equate it to the Spider-Gwen Warp 9 cover. I think this belongs on a list, but it would be the fringe list. I don't consider this a swipe, homage, or parody but close enough to be noted. I think if the fingers were right on the down hand, it would be at the homage level. That's my 2 cents...I did order it so it will be in my fringe section of books in hand.

This is a weird book actually....so Archie put out a Red Circle comics set of these in 2013-2014 and a Dark Circle run in 2015. Some covers are identical (main pose, not layout). This particular #1 variant is original to the 2015 Dark Circle run and not in the 2013 Red Circle version. CBR doesn't even show the newer Dark Circle run.

I was wrong above...series can be found at: http://comicbookrealm.com/series/38930/0/dark-circle-comics-fox

Is this the listing you were looking for? http://comicbookrealm.com/series/38930/0/dark-circle-comics-fox

I added "The" to the title, which may be why it was hard to find if this is the one.

That be the one...maybe I am just blind. I just searched "fox" and it popped up right there...I checked my history and my search this morn was "the fox". I am chalking it up to momentary helplessness even though I want to blame my tablet. Thanks for the help and checking out the thread Rocknrolla!

Glad I could help. Definitely an interesting and pretty amazing thread.

Talk about an iconic cover that is used from some of the smallest publishers on up. An even though some are on the fringe of being an homage cover, you can guarantee that who ever drew them knew what the cover was going to resemble.

As far as the thread, I have been blown away at the success and views. Honestly, being a mainly niche collector that took a 20 year comic hiatus, I was blown away this thread wasn't to be found anywhere on the net, even more so now with the success of this thread. It's been a little over a year and the views are mind-boggling...at least to me.

As far as the comic and imagery use, I am not surprised. I have never been a "comic" guy but this cover was a big deal when I was a kid and it stuck with me. I think anyone interested in superhero art within a few years of my age would have this cover burned in there brain without even trying to think of it. It would be hard for me to avoid using it as a basis for any #1 for sure. If you look at the fringe list, the majority are #1 or #1 variants. Even the legit swipe and homage covers, a lot of #1s.

Hi guys
I'm looking to sell my copy of complete spiderman Amiga giveaway. There still is one listed on eBay for £600 and I have never seen another one before.
Front cover is detached with a small rip where the top staple has detached, this is on the back.
The front is bent where it has been folded into the box but it is a soft fold so hasnt cracked the cover. It still looks very good and clean bagged and boarded.
I'll happily provide pictures
Looking to list it on eBay for £250 but I'm open to offers if someone on here wants it first.

Pm me if interested

Simon

Simon:

Nnnnnnooooooo!!!! Why are you doing that? Are you sure you won't regret it? I know there is good money out there for it but you know you may never be able to replace it. Make sure you have thought about it...I have sold a few "white whales" before and have regretted almost every one at some point.

I swear they must be printing more of these dead poohs, Couldn't find them anywhere 6 months ago but now dead pooh is getting more popular in the collecting circles more and more issues are turning up. All of them seem to be from online sellers and not people selling them on from their collection. I guess the deadpool movie has helped as well.

Yes, they are represented on the list:
32) Do You Pooh #1? (#ed/25 Marat Cover) [15' ; Counterpoint Comics]
*confirmed add'l run of Artist Proofs made #ed/AP10
33) Do You Pooh #1? (#ed/10 Marat Metallic Cover) [15'; Counterpoint Comics]
*confirmed add'l run of Artist Proofs made #ed/AP5
34) Do You Pooh #1? (#ed/10 Marat B&W Cover) [15'; Counterpoint Comics]
*confirmed add'l run of Artist Proofs made #ed/AP5
35) Do You Pooh #1? (#ed/10 Marat Chromium Cover) [15'; Counterpoint Comics]
*confirmed add'l run of Artist Proofs made #ed/AP5

CBR is actually missing one.....the cover Simon referred to below. The metallic cover is not the chromium....the metallic cover actually has the metal cover and is also /10. I have the #3 of /25 or /10 of all 4 covers. I will add the issue #s they show instead of 1?? in my next revision. Thanks for chiming in though AmZoMBie! Please keep us in mind if you see anything else, new or old. We only knew about the Do You Pooh's bc of the 6 month hunt for Dead Pooh #3.

I discussed this recently on here, but as I understand it, the bagged gold are fakes. It's the bag from the green covers resealed on the gold's. There are always rumors that some mistakenly got printed and released. Think about this (point not made previously), Why would the gold have the same bag from the green.....it's officially the 2nd print....why put the exact same polybag on it. Also, it is a 2nd printing, why would that mistake get made...it's a totally different print run. The silver doesn't have the same bag. Also, I find it odd that it's signed on the polybag....twice! There is a sig on the front in silver and in red on the rear. It all seems too good to be true....don't you think?

I just don't think its right that the guy is saying he is a full on comic book guy but is selling this dodgy looking comic for $200. I should offer him $10 for his faulty goods.
Posted: February 23, 2016 6:51:27 pm
The best punishment is not to buy it! I can't back up that ALL bagged golds are faked....but they don't make sense....and I know in the early 90s, bagged golds were a common scam. They would take razors and open the regulars, slide the gold in, and reseal the bag (very easy to reseal polys....you could heat a big knife blade/piece of flat steel and cut and seal in one swoop).

As far as this guy, some people believe them to be real, some don't. I personally do not but would welcome legit evidence otherwise. However, I doubt I would buy one...especially for that price tag. I would just make my own!

I have revised the lists! No new books (kinda)! I added a line for the unbagged silver original with no price and a note about no proof of legitimate bagged golds existing. For SP#13, I added a line for the newstand edition which is much rarer than the direct with spidey head. I do not intend to reflect direct and newstand on other issues, but SP#13 is from the Spider-Man original run and McFarlane. You will only find one newstand for every 20 or so direct for that issue. I added the CBR numbers to the 3 Do You Poohs they show on here and added a new section for TPB/HCs.

I have also started collecting info on all kinds of add'l items with SP#1 imagery. Trading cards, postcards, toys, busts/statues, posters, little bit of everything. I have been scouring 1000s of pictures, auctions, and websites to get this stuff together if anyone is interested. I can email the list as it stands now to whomever is interested in non-comic items....just PM me. I have some extras of a few cards, a post card, and unauthorized prism vending stickers if anyone would be interested in a head start.

Just got myself a copy of diamond incentive trade paperback. Red cover, not sure if a trade paperback counts as a comic?

Also found someone selling copies of the blue lizard error edition.
I have a copy and although not a swipe it does show in a few lists I have found as a recognised varient

Ha...I added the diamond incentive to the list yesterday in the new TPB/Hardcover section. It is classified as a TPB everywhere...not a comic.

As far as the blue lizard, it may get on the list eventually, but hasn't bc this isn't a tribute to the series or the torment story...it's all about the cover and cover imagery...at least for me. Essentially, it's a variant, but of the comic, not the cover. How much is a copy of the blue lizard through your source?

I just received a nice copy of the Scatterbrain #1 homage variant yesterday. After cruising the internet and Ebay for a while now, I went deeper -- contacting the creative team on the book each individually. That didn't pan out, but I managed to reach the publisher in the UK who sold me their file copy of the book.

I only bring it up here because no one else but everyone in this thread respects how hard it is to find that dang book. Ha ha.

Good article. So the blue lizard is nothing but a con that the masses fell for.
Posted: February 26, 2016 8:56:39 pm
I wouldn't say a "con", but how many misprints sell like that one??? People want to refer to it as a variant, but variants are planned. This simply happened bc they ran out of a color on a print run bc they made too many. They are rare now for multiple reasons. I think some factors are, the book is 26 years old, while well known it's also well established....to the point it's almost an afterthought to open all your silvers and see what color lizard is anymore. I also think collectors have wised up. Those lead to them not coming up much, but when they do, all us dummies duke it out with our wallets to get it.

I will end this with a question....when I had those Dead Pooh's from Jacob Bear, why didn't anyone want the one with the misprint in the D on the cover? If the Blue Lizard misprint is valuable, then shouldn't the only Dead Pooh #3 Comikazi misprint be worth a boatload? Why do we as collectors fall for these gimmicks.....like the Do You Pooh Artist Proofs! The only way to stop these scams and rip offs is to become better, more educated consumers. We need to learn to put the time in, the legwork in, and research everything we can....look at the past....history repeats itself.

Blue lizard is a total con, but if you can get 1 at a good price it is a great addition to the collection. They do exist and are well known about so why not have 1 if you can afford it.

As I said before, I wouldn't mind having a blue lizard in the collection even though it doesn't qualify for the list, but will have to wait to stumble onto one or wait for a steal to come by. Not dropping crazy money on that. I have added a note in the list about it though...baby steps. I just wonder how many have went through my hands I didn't even know of....smh!

Does it look genuine?

It looks genuine but that doesn't mean that it is. It would be a crazy addition to the collection though.
Posted: March 1, 2016 2:59:14 pm
We should all put in and buy it and start a museum. How much do human organs sell for. Would crown any collection

It's definitely one of those items that makes you start looking through the pile and asking yourself what you can live without for a while!!! It's also one of those things that, more than likely, you will never have another shot at!!!

This just came to my attention. I have been helping a guy on facebook who is collecting various different swipes. He's not bothered about different variants and colours (not as committed as us) and he just got himself a copy of pizza man with a blue background

http://comicvine.gamespot.com/pizza-man-1-owww-cheese/4000-460933/

The one I have has a green background '(I see from your pics Gary that you are the same) so im a bit pissed I missed this but I didn't even think to look.

If you are still in communication with him, could you ask if he would check the bottom indices of the inside front cover to see if it says First Edition or another one? It's interesting that the elements on the cover are laid out very different.

I just received a copy of marvel collectable classics for $6.80. I shit you not. I got it from newkadia.com they can't have realised what they had. But I'm happy

Hell yeah....that's awesome. I might sell some of my copies of Deadpool #1 (1997) and a few other extras to get some extra scratch together for the next "amazing" find. Right now, my hot ticket item is the Master Replicas statue I posted a few pages back...not that exact one (no box), but I want one. Looks like $450 - 600 for a nice one with box....or $1000 for one signed by Stan Lee (not going to happen).

FYI...for the guys/gals collecting more than just comics! A few months ago, the Johnny Lightning Spider-Man VW Beetle 1/64th die cast was brought up....has a trading card with the cover. Be aware, there are 2 versions.

The 2001 version is a 98' VW Beetle and is #1 of the Spider-Man series. The car is lime green, has rubber tires, and the packaging also features the pose along with the borderless trading card. The bottom edge of packaging is white.

The 2004 version is a 01' VW Beetle and is #5 in the Spider-Man series. The car is shimmer green, has hard tires, and features a trading card with a red border around cover. There is a black box on the bottom left edge of packaging,

Here you go....damn good head start! Scroll to the bottom of the list and check out the newest section, due to popular demand. I met a guy through another site that got me all this info w/in a few days....even supplied me cover photos so I can share if anyone asks since I don't collect foreign issues. That said, a special thank you to Liam Sturgess for compiling the info for us!!!

Another very cool non-comic item found!!! It's a 1994 Fossil watch + keychain set. The box, watch, and keychain all feature the cover. They are all #ed /10000 and come with COA.

I had this guy talked down to $85 plus s/h....but found another cheaper through another source. The cheapest I have seen a complete set w/ tags go is around $75 and there are confirmed sales in the $150 range (I got my set for $85 shipped).

It's a tough one.....my heart tells me No...not even the fringe list....but I would like more input. Simon, AF, anyone else have an opinion....the fringe list is the only list up for debate on this IMO.

It's similar to the Spider-Gwen #1 exclusive, but has the one arm downward. I'd call it fringe by a very narrow margin.

Posted: March 24, 2016 8:07:17 pm
Well as of right now....it's 2 for no and 2 for fringe. Tie goes to the book, which means as of now, it will more than likely be on the fringe list next update (unless we get more input by then....prolly the next few days.....have some non-comic additions).

I managed to get the blue pizza man of the guy, the comic is made out of really flimsy paper. It is really poor quality paper. I checked on the inside for what print it might be and it just says it pizza man showbag edition.

I have not been able to locate one....tried a bunch of big Aussie shops but to no avail. I want one...but not going to sweat it.

Actually been nice....haven't looked for any SP1 stuff in over a week. I will tell you a frustrating one....I found a pillowcase from early 90s featuring the cover...it is NIP....guy wants $195!!! I offered $35 (what I believe to be more than fair for a singular, standard pillowcase)...wouldn't even counter. I find it crazy how some people don't realize their market (especially as niche as SP1) and what exactly they have....it's a freaking pillowcase.

I will keep an eye out for you. If one turns up I will let you know.

I sent an email to the guy on eBay selling the amiga giveaway for $850 that if the people on this forum think his price is too high then he might want to lower it. Funnily enough he never got back to me.
Posted: April 27, 2016 2:58:15 pm
I found a Spider-Man 13 last night...guy is asking $125 and linked an eBay auction through google where the seller is asking $450. Problem is...the guy asking $450 is a CGC 9.8 signed and certified by Stan Lee and McFarlane ($450 is too high for that as well). The guy asking $125...it's just a regular old copy listed as "excellent condition".

I messaged him saying he would be lucky to get 1/10th of that. Told him to look here, on CBR, and sold auctions on eBay to better establish values rather than just wasting his time shooting for the moon. Might have to find it to see if he did anything yet.

I wouldn't even add it to the fringe. Venom is just squatting, it's not an homage cover.

I don't collect these but agree with the Ult Spider Man cover. The wrong hand is down too.
Posted: June 6, 2016 1:47:41 pm
rpenny88 and labria4...thank you for the input.

I actually have no issue with USM 128 making the fringe list....while the wrong hand is down, yada yada, the pose is almost a perfect inverse. One shoulder lower than other, dropped head position, one hand up, one down. It has an argument that it "could" have been influenced by SP1. Very similar argument to Wolfskin being added. That is what the fringe list is for....for the ones too close to call....that some people may accept, some may not. It's all pretty fluid here...this list is here as a reference for everyone...not just me....so we like to supply the info and let the collector decide for themselves. That said, I am not trying to put up a huge argument for this book....the fringe list is least of our concern here.

I will still be taking opinions for a few more days....would like to hear back from Tabin and Simon before making any final decisions....they have been instrumental in this list and have as much say as I do, as far as I am concerned.

I don't think any of them are close enough to count even on the fringe list. It's only my opinion and if everyone agrees and adds it to the list I will go on eBay straight away and buy a copy, just to be a sheep🤗
Posted: June 6, 2016 2:20:10 pm
Haha....as I said...I value everyone's opinion....especially you and Tabin....you both have put a tremendous amount of time and effort into this list. As of right now....the only one of the 3 is up for debate is the Ult. Sp. 128 and only because it matches up pretty well when inversed and compared to SP1.

As stated above, we need to remember what the fringe list is for....for questionable ones that can't be agreed on. That's the list that you can really draw the line on as a collector, as far as whether you want those in your personal collection. As of right now though, I have 3 against it....so it is not looking good for USM 128. This is kinda a funny one bc I feel like I am usually the one poo-pooing new ones. At first glance....I blew this one off (I am on vacation at the beach so I didn't give it much thought initially), but when I got back to the beach house, reversed the image...you can see there is a chance it was influenced by SP1 but not relied upon completely. It will be put on the back burner for a while I reckon.

I saw them on someone elses list and got excited because its been a while since we have had any. creeper and prophet are out but the usm is causing me problems. i think i want it to be one more than it is.
Posted: June 9, 2016 9:30:21 pm
I am on the fence about that one as well....I initially blew it off but once I spent a bit of time with them (scans) side by side....I think it's just as deserving as some others on the fringe list. That is what the fringe list is for....those are the ones we don't all agree on and is there for people to choose for themselves.

I will wait for the next update until I have it in hand to check out...it was delivered today but I won't be home from vacation until Sunday. I have a couple other things to add and correct on the lists soon. No comic stuff yet....I get that stuff up pretty quick.....take my time on the non-comic stuff since there isn't much interest (much = 0....haha).

Thanks for bringing them up....as well as the follow-up! I appreciate everyone's opinions and contributions....keep it up!!! This thread is now over 21,000 views at this point! Pretty mind-blowing but also a testament to not only the original book, but our collective dedication to it!

Does anyone know what page/panel this Blue Lizard is on?

Not sure of all the pages but this panel seems to be the most common one posted to check:
Image

To the best of my knowledge, only the silver covers have the blue lizard misprint. That's all it is....the yellow ran out on those pages during printing. The prices are way over inflated on that book for what it is....a misprint. CGC notes it as a misprint and in any other comic, would devalue it. For some reason, this one has a cult following....that doesn't include one of the biggest SP1 fanatics there is. (...points finger at self aggressively and repeatedly)

There is no, and never will be, any "production" numbers associated to this misprint because it's a factory error. Not desired, but created by poor quality control....IMO.

To the best of my knowledge, only the silver covers have the blue lizard misprint. That's all it is....the yellow ran out on those pages during printing. Best of luck....could be some easy, quick cash!!! Remember....only the silver covers have it....don't waste your time with the green, yellow, or gold covers. I do not know if it is only non-poly silvers though....although it would make sense bc the bagged and non-bagged have different covers....only non-poly silvers would have it...assuming a different print run/time.

Is anyone on here still after pizza man? I am in contact with the guy who created it and he says he has some issues left but I thought who needs what before in order some. I can't promise there will be enough for everyone and it will be first come first served so let me know sooner rather than later. I have only asked him about the blue show bag edition but I will ask about the green if any need it. All I ask is you cover the cost of issue and postage to wherever you are.
Posted: June 19, 2016 10:08:56 pm
Ok, he has around 100 of each version of pizza man left and he says if you want to you can email him for them at shanamation@gmail.com

He seems like a nice guy.

Wow amazing thanks I'll email him now

I did tell him that we were based all around the world but if there is any issue with post then let me know and you can get them sent to me and i will forward them on.

My coppies of pizza man arrived today, I'm so happy. $20 for them both plus shipping is the bargain of the year.

So happy I'm looking for Spiderman gold UPC. Unfortunately the not so great British pounds sucks against the dollar

Anybody got leads on scatterbrain, it's one of the last I need
Posted: June 29, 2016 9:23:15 pm
I just ordered my blue cover Pizza Man the other day....excited to get it in. I still have nothing for the Scatterbrain....sorry Simon!

All,
I have also decided (not sure when I will get around to updating it on the list), Ult. Sp.Man 128 will be on the fringe list. It's hard to deny the influence when I put them side by side, but also recognize not everyone will see it that way. Just bc it makes a list, doesn't mean you have to get it...your collection is your collection....nobody is judging anyone. As stated before...that is exactly what the fringe list is for....that's the one where it's really up to you to decide what meets your standards. That particular cover, the image is reversed, but the head position is good, shoulder position is good, hand position is close.....the hands aren't perfect, the proportions are a bit different, and there's no slick background. It's one where I can't look at it (my wife, whom could care less, agrees), it's hard to say it wasn't influenced, consciously or subconsciously, by SP1.....it's impossible to say it definitely wasn't without hearing it from the artist while they are drunk.

This collecting is turning into an obsession.
I spend time every night searching for covers i dont have.
I have rebagged and boarded all my comics and put the marvel collectable classics in a top loader without a bag so you can see the rear cover.

My adventure with foreign comics is going well however I have hit a problem...
I am starting to find foreign versions of swipes so the list is potentially massive.

However! today arrived a comic I had forgotten I ordered.
I don't think I was fully aware of what I had ordered.

But it is amazing.

Im trying to post a picture but I cannot get it too work so bare with me...

Im glad people are getting the pizza man issues. I emailed that guy ages ago and he just emailed me back out of the blue. I will follow up on the scatterbrain issues but I think the guy was getting a bit annoyed with me pestering him once a month. The last email I got from him was along the lines of I will find them when I find them. Its been a few months so I might give him a friendly nudge.

Hi guys, wondering if someone can help me?
I'm after all if the Wolfskin swipes.
I've found a few places selling the red and platinum edition but cannot find one place that sells all of them, this means shipping works out near $100 for a few $10 comics
Would anybody in America be willing to get them and ship to me all together?
I'm willing to pay all expenses and a bit extra for the trouble.

Thanks
Posted: July 17, 2016 7:23:17 pm
I am willing to help you but I just got promoted at work. It's a brand new position that's taking a ton of my time to get rolling. If you find them, buy them, and ship them to me, I will be more than happy to send them up to you if that works for you. It could take me a while otherwise to to find them all and get it done. If that works for you Simon, PM me and I will send you my address.

Fringe...maybe?! It's another that it would be hard to argue it wasn't, at the least, influenced by SP1! At the same time, there are just enough things against it. While the pose is close...the angle is off...the hand position is right but you don't have the finger position on the grounded hand, the hand on knee has palm up, no background to tie it to SP1, etc. Would like to hear from others!

Side note...the rear cover of The Punks #3 has a preview to #4. So for hardcore completists....you may want to get that one as well (it is the cover to #4 with a black bar along the right and bottom edge).

Also, our hookup guy from our Dead Pooh days has informed me Marat Mychaels has another cover coming out for a series called Notti & Nyce that will have another 3-5 cover spread like Do You Pooh all numbered between 10-100. High prices again for books that may or may not carry their value. These guys are starting to pissed me off a bit bc they know we are here and could be feeding on us a bit. The covers range from a bit risqué to vulgar. If you message me your email, I can forward you the email with imagery...I would rather not post them directly here (I am not against vulgarity or nudity...I love it...but I want to respect those who are not as open as myself).

Thanks Tabin for sharing....will be interesting to hear some opinions!

Notti & Nice #15 Marat Mychaels McFarlane Homage Covers Update:

Here are the details! I have a deal in place for anyone from here to get the 3 covers that are guaranteed for release. The set price at release is $175...anyone from here gets them for $150. That includes US shipping. International shipping is "$35 anywhere in the world. International priority mail with tracking".

Also:
"If you or anyone that orders them wants these Signed by Marat and CGC graded, I can make that happen. Marat will sign for free. He can also do small sketches on the books (For example a small Spider-man head sketch). That will cost $25.

CGC costs for signature series grading is $69 for 1st book, and $42 each for each additional book. Shipping is US only. International shipping is available at an additional cost."

If you haven't already got a hold of me with an email to forward photos of the 3 covers...you may still do so. You can also ask through the email below directly with our guy! We have dealt with him for Dead Pooh and Do You Pooh. The books are always top notch. As far as posting the covers...that's not happening. They are NSFW and I show my 3 kids this thread. I am all for nudity but it has it's place!

To purchase, you can either pay by PayPal to the email below or contact him through the email and he can invoice you!

Hello all,
I am pleased to announce that I am now the proud owner of the Atari giveaway comic. I paid $140AUD for it no not the cheapest but definitely cheaper than the one on eBay.

I put it up on a FB forum that im in and a guy asked me what it was as he has one. He sent me a pick of it and he got it for $4AUD from a second hand book store. I offered him $5 for it but he said no. I probably shouldn't have told him what I paid before asking to buy his.

Couple new opportunities for anyone interested...

First, our guy from PlanetAwesomeCollectibles got in touch with me...if anyone has a comic they want signed by McFarlane and graded by CGC:

"Just wanted to let you know that I have a signing opp coming up with Todd McFarlane. I need books in by Dec 7th. Cost is $140 per book. Includes his signing fee, cgc grading with fast tier (30-45 day turnaround time after CGC gets it), and shipping."

This signing is only for books!!!

Secondly, he also informed me, for any ASM300 fans...Notti & Nyce #17 will be swipes of ASM300. They will be sold at the same deal as above for the Notti & Nyce #16 SP1 swipes (scroll up to see our pricing if interested).

For either item above, Zubair can be reached at:
planetawesomecollectibles@gmail.com

Also, as we are getting ready to roll into a new year, I want to thank all of you again for making this list happen. I have made some great friends during this journey and I thank each and everyone of you for that! This thread is creeping up on 30000 views...who woulda thunk it!!!

What are people's thoughts on one off swipes people have produced?
Should there be a minimum production run?

You mean personally done sketch covers? That's a can of worms I don't think you want to open.
Posted: January 12, 2017 10:33:54 pm
I would agree that one-off books wouldn't count, nor would home bound type fan books. There needs to be some level of professional printing/binding in my opinion.

"If you think something is missing, PLEASE post about it and I will get to work on it! We appreciate your time! **no 1/1s (original art, proof, etc)"

I have been trying to collect as many foreign coppies as I can.
Although the descriptions are included on the list they are so hard to find.

Bottom picture
brazil, Greece, Indonesia, Italy

Top picture
Italy,, Netherlands,Brazil, Finland

I also have spawn 8 by image from south Africa.

I'm going to make a concerted effort to find these now as my collection is complete apart from scatterbrain and spawn 231b

Since nobody has weighed in, I will say my opinion and see who else chimes in. My vote would be for the fringe list. While the general outline and visual are strikingly similar, making it hard to say it wasn't influenced by SP1, I have a few issues making it hard to go with swipe/homage. Head position seems high, the left knee/leg, and the right hand finger position. I think if 1-2 of those 3 were a little closer, it would be in the discussion to make a higher list. I do however feel like it was influenced, consciously or subconsciously, my McFarlane's imagery.

No to judge dredd none of it looks right. Think sometimes we try to find a likeness which isn't there.

Hardlee thin is definitely in. I've emailed for my coppies already. Think they look great

Simon....I actually have decided to go with no as well for Judge Dredd: Year One #1sub. I finally got around to putting them side by side and am going to have to agree.

My knocks:
-head position: way too high compared to shoulders
-stance: he is kneeling...not crouching
-hand/finger position: totally different

Same complaints as before, wishing it had one of the three. After more review, they are individually, glaringly too different. Think I was just getting excited to add one to the list...that anyone can have easily!

So, no Judge Dredd: Year One #1sub!!! Keep them coming Tab, as well as everyone else. They add to the debate and keep this list rolling between good finds!

Also, speaking of the list, thanks to all of you for your contributions, no matter how big or small. I just saw this thread's views are over 30000!!! I say it everytime we hit another 10k, but it has amazed me this list is still relatively active after 2 years and 30k views. As we all mature and move on in life, this list may still be here! We did it! It is an intimidating list but nobody can say it isn't the most complete you will find! While most of the heavy lifting is done, we know there will always be more to come! Thanks in advance towards the next 10k!

My copies of Hardlee Thinn came today! As expected compared to the other PlanetAwesome books. Beautiful quality but still find it hard to justify the cost.

On a side note, I am absolutely stoked about an eBay win today. I won an auction for the 2006 Master Replicas 3D Cover Scene statue today. I always thought it was over priced but I got to see one in person a few weeks ago and it was over. I know most of you are just here for the books, but the statue is AMAZING (pun kind of intended)! Seriously, it is beautifully done, super detailed, and just plain eye candy. You cannot pass it and not study it!!! They are pricey but highly collectible and what a way, if displayed right, to bring the attention to your collection. It's worth it to anyone who has been on the fence...beautiful!!!

I have not ordered them. Just seems to be one swipe after another. They are high quality and look good but I feel exploited. I'm sure there will be another one with sketch chromium and artist prints on the way.
I started collecting them cause the idea of swipes interested me, but these don't feel like an artist taking inspiration from a iconic cover but a money making scheme. I'm not buying anymore from them which is a shame as my collection will never be "complete". It's not even about the money but the principle of what was once fun tracking these down and finding them is now gone.

I 100% agree and have voiced my displeasure to PlanetAwesome. I went as far as to tell them, after Notti & Nyce, that I would not continue to promote anymore Mychaels books. He did the Dead Pooh and the N&N in the same year. At what point are you not an artist anymore? At any rate, I understand and agree! The worst part is, for N&N and HT, the faces are busted as hell. Not even remotely attractive. As far as the PlanetAwesome books go, I also don't like the subject matter or presentation. I am far from polished and if you all knew me better, I would probably be your most vulgar friend. I don't need it in my comic box though!!!

Soooo... what do we think about this upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy #1.MU variant? Flipped pose, sort of the right composition.

I don't mind the reverse pose, however, like Judge Dredd Year One, he is kneeling...not squatting. The one hand is on the knee rather than the elbow on the thigh, and the down hand finger position is not even attempted (even taking into consideration he only has 4 fingers).

My vote would be no for Homage/Swipe....no for Fringe...but YES for Parody. Even with the problems stated above, I put this with Sonic and Mighty Mouse...not close as a Swipe but you can still clearly see what they were going for. They kept the web background at the bottom, added webbing on the outfit to make it more clear, and while the pose isn't right, the general outline and position is clearly along lines with SP1...just reversed. I think it's clearly heavily influenced by SP1 and they had a little fun with it!

Official vote...PARODY list!!!

Looks like a clear spider Gwen swipe to me, hood and background! Spider Gwen is on the fringe list so shouldn't this sit alongside that?
Posted: March 8, 2017 3:26:01 pm
To me, the fringe list are for ones that are almost there...that we can't all agree on. To me, this is a parody cover...if we consider it to SP1. If we are going to base it off a fringe list book, then it doesn't belong on the list at all.

If you put all 3 books next to each other, Guardians is pretty much in the middle of both. The top background is from Spider-Gwen while the bottom is SP1. I think Guardians is closer to SP1 than Spider-Gwen (publishing dates asside), but is a bit of a spoof...making it a parody. Take Spider-Gwen out of the discussion all together, what would your opinion be?

Forgetting spider Gwen it would be a no, not even on the fringe list.
Posted: March 13, 2017 3:54:23 am
my vote would be parody at best.

on another note. the rape continues, there is a b&w hardley thinn cover coming as well. its getting rediculous

ive never been a fan of the Mighty mouse cover and i was on a ebay hunt for covers and i see this one.

that looks like the mightymouse one more than it matches with sm#1
Posted: March 13, 2017 10:19:14 am
Great find. I could easily believe the Mighty Mouse issue (released in 1991) is an homage of Amazing 317 (released in 1989) more than SP1.

I see where you are coming from, however, look at the style of the web as well as the "Ferment" logo (rather than Torment). As much as we hate it, Mighty Mouse is a parody of SP1. Doesn't mean there are no other influences.

At the end of the day, this list is subjective. Your collections are your collections. No list and no other person can tell you what belongs in your collection.

AF...since you brought the Guardians cover up and there has been some feedback, what is your feeling now? I am for parody, Simon is a no, and Tabin is a maybe Parody!

I've already picked up a copy, and it's in the AF15 collection as a parody. But like you said before, to each their own definition of what does and doesn't count.

Tabin already mentioned it, but there is a B&W Hardlee Thinn being released. They are /25 and are normally $40! Our deal is for $25/shipped, so those of you interested, get in touch with Zubair!

Also, Zubair and PlanetAwesome are hosting an open signing by McFarlane June 23-25. The prior one was just for comics but this one is for anything. The signing fee is $35 plus return shipping for most items. I will be sending an original poster from 1990 up there and, if I can get it off the statue w/out breaking it, the glass piece from my Master Replicas cover scene statue, both to be signed!

Hello plank23mx and welcome
These are my thoughts on those covers as I have seen them before
Moon knight is a parody at best
Darkchylde is a no
Evil Ernie would be a homage at best, especially as there is already a true EE swipe
That's my 2 cents but as always I leave it to the group

Welcome, i echo Tabin's thoughts, think we agreed moon Knight was a spawn swipe but i cannot remember which 1.
It is discussed in the thread somewhere.
As always it's a personal collection and we all probably have things in our collection others dont
Posted: March 26, 2017 4:16:50 pm
I am out on all of them...

I think the Moon Knights are a character more just squatting, positioned more due to the scene that for the pose (I am actually a Moon Knight fan from way back and already own all 3 of these)...

I think Darkchylde is an easy no...I wouldn't mind seeing it every now and then but it doesn't fit in this list...

The closest is the Evil Ernie, but again, too many discrepancies to ignore...

All that said, welcome to CBR and our SP1 forum Plank23mx. While I don't think any of these qualify, that doesn't mean the next one won't. Thanks for adding to the discussion! Also, while I don't think these belong, as you will hear over and over from us, your collection is your collection! I think all of us have books we have included/excluded that are and aren't on these lists. This is simply a guideline and not a definitive guide; it's up to you to make your collection yours! Can't wait to see what you bring to us next!!!

My opinion on that one is he is just squatting...don't think it ties to anything with McFarlane's SP#1.

I may have a couple extras books I can get rid of...I may have extras of a handful of them. I will try to get you some info by the end of the weekend once I have time to update the list and access my collection.

To me, it's a great cover, but not one that fits the collection as an homage. It has elements that are similar, but the mood and pose convey something different.

I agree, I want it to be so I'm seeing what I want to see. Also I wont be heart broken for it to not make the list as there are 5 variants of this cover and they get pricey.
Posted: June 5, 2017 6:14:33 pm
I agree with af15...while a great, visually appealing image, it does not mesh with what we are looking for. However, thanks for posting Tabin...I actually like it enough, it may go into my main collection (I collect cover art more than key books). Admittedly, I do not/have not read most of my comics...all about the story in the cover art rather than the story in the book.

Some people are appalled at that concept, but to each their own. I grew up drawing every chance I could so I have always connected with that part of comics. If I am looking for a great story, I pick up a legitimate book!

I think we can all agree, since this whole thread is founded on SP1, the story itself is pretty lacking. We all got captured by the cover and the fact it was one of those books that kicked off the cover variant era...like it or not!

Im in Australia and happy to help. What do you need?
Posted: July 7, 2017 4:51:46 pm
I didn't get the hardly thin swipes. Picked up the sketch cheaper than was being offered originally.
I haven't received my venom yet but did buy the gold.
Who blabbed? That's crap cause we were onto a good thing, still think they are producing for us, ones on eBay are not selling as I guess we all have them.
Posted: July 7, 2017 4:55:58 pm
Saying all of that.... Just ordered the gold.
Posted: July 7, 2017 5:04:11 pm
Simon,

No biggie on the blab! I have had a convo and it was innocent enough...it could have happened to any of us. It def wasn't intentional...just unfortunate. As I said to them...honestly...I hope we do not need a special discount anymore bc hopefully they are done...prolly not...but hopefully.

Hell...we can band together and stop buying...they will stop making them...and whatever we didn't buy will eventually drop in price and the completists can go that route.

I know if I was an artist and took pride in what I did, I would want more than 10-25 people to be able to enjoy it anyway! I think the Hardlee Thinn cover is ugly as hell...so are these Venom Poohs!

All,

Just a quick message...CBR has been a great site to us. It has brought us together on this forum and given us a space to come together and make one bad ass list. On top of that, we have gotten to develop friendships, even though a lot of us are on totally different continents.

Each year I have been a member, I have donated $10 to CBR as part of the optional membership to keep the site running. I ask that each of you consider doing the same thing over time. The cap is $40 for a lifetime...considering what we pay for some of these books, it's a drop in the bucket, especially when spread out over time. I just reached my $40 limit (hence the LM under my info now). To do my fair part, I wanted to let you guys know about it, in case you did not know you can donate.

I am not doing this on behalf of CBR...nobody has ever reached out to me on behalf of the site in any form, nor do I expect them to. I am doing this simply out of my appreciation for the site, as well as each of you! I want this site to be around a long time, for all of us, as well as newcomers to the comic industry. Just some food for thought!

Better than the Pooh one!!! Still waiting on a venomized Eeyore...could pin it's own tail back on with a symbiot suit! The Tigger one isn't bad though, I can see why you would like it!

If we are going to go a little off topic, look up Squarriors! The 1st print #1 cover is priceless...at least to me! The artist is Ashley Witter (hot!!!)! Stumbled on it after finding a Harley Quinn cover variant she did. I am a cover art guy so the story doesn't matter much to me, but it looks like a miniaturized Planet of the Apes meets Lord of the Flies!

I am also looking forward to getting my, newly signed, original 1990 Spider-Man 1 poster back! Zubair took it to the recent Vegas show for me and got it signed...I am pretty excited!

By the way, I have 0 issue going off topic! Additionally, I have said it before but I am going to try to find time to get the list caught up in the next week or so...I have been slacking!!!

Thats awesome Simon. Where did you find it?
Posted: July 18, 2017 3:01:01 pm
Jackpot...that's great news! Value to scarcity...Scatterbrain has to be the toughest book to find! $3 book and I have the only copy I have seen, outside of Simon now! I had to pay up to get a guy to search all his long boxes for mine!

Congrats on the Scatterbrain. I recall when I got my copy last year...I was super excited about it too. I had to stalk the creators to find my copy. Ha ha.

eBay, in the UK £3 free shipping. I've had a followed search setup for years this is the first copy I've seen. No getting too excited untill it's safe in my hands

did post on a Facebook comic group here in Australia about scatterbrain. I wanted to point out to people that rare and hard to find does not mean expensive. Its great that you found a copy, I had mine slabbed to keep it safe.

What books are people still looking for? there is a guy over here that has some of the books we collect and he's selling them off.

Only looking for gold UPC at a reasonable price, spawn sketch, I didn't get the hardly thin and now regret that, found the sketch, need gold and colour.
Posted: July 20, 2017 11:46:47 am
The only things I am missing from the lists are:

-Amiga/Commodore Complete Spider-Man

-American Entertainment one posted shortly ago (still need to add to list...whoops)

-(2) Peavey Rockmaster Guitars (don't really care to own these given the cost and size)

-pillowcase (sealed...I have an open one)

I don't collect the foreign covers so I don't have, nor need, any of them.

question

is there a Green w/ UPC with purple web/green background ? or is just the UPC bagged and unbagged

Posted: July 28, 2017 11:20:36 am
It's just the bagged version removed from the bag

I got my gold Hardly Thinn, it looks good but I hope that's it from PA now with the swipes.

Not sure if anyone here collects other swipes but there is a comic series called path finder and each issue seems to have a swipe of another comic cover or a movie poster, no SM #1 though.

I think the pose looks good but the position is wrong.

Just picked up Edge of Venomverse and Do You Pooh? (Venomous Color Cover - AP2). Will probably pick up Notti & Nyce #16, but I really want the Hardlee Thinn issue...but no where to be found =\

The Squirrel #1 comic is a dead ringer for the SM#1 cover pose. It counts to me.

I can't argue this one...outside of finger position, this is pretty much dead on! Looks like we will have a new edition to the list!

Additionally, our post has now reached 40000 views! As I like to do at each 10000, thanks to all you guys for keeping this thing going! Don't forget to consider donating to CBR to keep the site running strong...this list wouldn't exist otherwise!
