  • I apologize if this should be in a different forum section but thought I'd put it here since it relates to pricing, just not on a specific book but all books.

My question is does anyone know when the price of books, particularly golden/silver age books, appreciate over time? Not by sale prices or demand, just by time. What I mean by that is does an Overstreet Price Guide or this site even, every X amount of years, raise the prices on say....Batman #1-100(and every other series from that era) by X amount of dollars. Would Issues #101-200 go up half of that price? Where would the price hikes stop I wonder?

I'm only asking out of sheer curiosity, just something that popped in my head last night. Does anyone have any knowledge on this?

  • I don't think any comic just naturally rises in value just because it got older.
It all comes down to demand. At some point over the years collectors/speculators were buying up books and that caused the value to climb and for the most part prices just stabilized and held.
We don't just raise the price of a book just because it's a year older, we look at current sales of a book and get an average and change the price accordingly.
One thing we do though is we do not price a book below it's initial sell price and in a lot of cases most books do sell well below the cover price.
