  • These are my favorite things to collect. I check the listings on the 'bay regularly so I was able to get it soon after it listed, ended up paying $50 total so 2 bucks per book.

To me what made it worth it was it included Justice League 30 and 31, first full appearances of Jessica Cruz and these are hard to find in the combo pack variants which have a low print run to begin with. Pretty sure they are both in NM range as well, can be hard to get combo packs in those grades so I was stoked. Heres all the books I got:

    Justice League 9, 10 (rarer version with purple title banner), 11, 13, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 30, 31

    Justice League of America 3, 4, 5, 6, 14

Justice League United 0-7 (all for that series)

so it was cool to get these and get closer to getting them all for the titles I want. A few of them I already owned but I kept the sealed copy of 21 since that's a great Shazam cover.

  • Very nice pick up!
Those combo packs are really cool, and I too scope them out on ebay from time to time. The better ones/key issues fetch some high prices. I have a few, but not many. I think the extent to what I have, is a Moon Knight Pedigree collection run, and a few of the more recent ones via Wal Mart. I would love to pick up one or two of any of the Bronze age combo packs. The few times I tuned in to the auctions, the bids went through the roof to even consider.
People want to know. How can I live like this? The risks? The times I've descended into madness? The times I've died? How can I live like this? How could I live any other way?

  • Oh I’m not sure which ones you’re referring to, but the ones I’m talking about were only made by DC during New 52 (2011-2015) and are variants of the regular cover priced a dollar higher, sealed in poly bags and included a digital code for the issue. So they’re not combo packs in that they include multiple issues bundled together, it just says “combo pack-digital copy inside!” On the cover. This is a quick article that discusses them: https://trendingpopculture.com/comic-art-workshop/the-rarity-of-dc-combo-pack-comics-2011-2015#sidr-nav

Besides the fact that their print runs were very low towards the end (some possibly as low as 500 or possibly lower), they’re fun to collect because even when I’ve found them unbagged, about 80% of the time the code isn’t redeemed and I get my digital code still after all those years. I read that DC cancelled them because they found sales were low as well as code redemption - people were buying them simply because they were bagged (different) and not opening them or redeeming the codes.

But speaking of Walmart I at least know those ones. I bought one of those to get the copy of Superman 2016 #1, and that’s where I got lucky and found the regular cover of Justice League 31.

  • lol okay spector is talking about comic book packs (typically 2-3 comics in each combo pack). Currently Walmart has them for both DC and Marvel. He also was referencing the older 90's boxed combo packs from Marvel.

Not John is talking about the Combo Pack Variants from the New 52 series' from DC that were both the Comic and the digital code i believe...but they were labeled very differently from the reg new 52 issues...i think they came polybagged also

i think i have a few combo variants, best prob being the issue where superman gained a new power...cant remember the issue...lol

  • The #1 2nd print is one of the harder ones to find. I have the 1st print #1 signed by Scott Williams from when I took it to a convention.

I’m also trying to get the ones for Superman Unchained; not as hard to find thankfully. The ones that will probably be a hassle to get are Justice League 40 and Green Lantern 20, both with first appearances so they were bought up by speculators over the years and most that remain are marked up a lot. But it’s part of the fun of these variants I guess

  • Cool, I’ll keep a lookout. There are a few of them that are generally considered hard to find like Justice League 12, GL 20 etc so for any of them I think are actually worth above cover price I’ll try to find data for.
