  • i went to the midnight premier last night/this morning at the local IMAX. It far exceeded my expectations. I loved the new ending, and i'm fine with the parts they cut out.

can't wait for the directors cut w/ all the extra footage added back into it.

  • I was really impressed.

This could be the highest grossing R rated movie ever.

I thought it was adapted very well to the point that anyone not familiar with it shouldn't have a hard time following.

  • i hate to say it, but i don't think it's going to do that great, numbers-wise. the first 2 weeks it will do really well. but it definitely won't do 'Dark Knight' numbers, and probably won't pass '300'. I think it's so specifically targeted at the fans, that the general public will skip it, until DVD...

either way, i still loved it and am glad that it was made For the Fans, by a Fan.

I don't know about that. I think the buzz from the cons so early put it on most peoples radars way before even the first comercials. My cousins, who haven't read a comic since they were 7 & 9, each read watchmen before Christmas whithout an prompting by me.... and loved it. I think the guys out there that love superhero movies because they are spawned from a rich and amazing medium, but just never got into that medium themselves, will naturally gravitate to this movie. Calling it a comic book movie gives it cred'. Saying it's dark and R rated makes people think of Sin City, an unqualified hit. The only trick is, will it be good. If we, as fans, like it, then the movie will be huge like 300. If we hate it, then the movie will flop, like Domino or Aeon Flux.

I'm just excited to see it tomorrow with the wife. It looks close enough to a thriller/scary movie that she knows she'll like it.

i think its going to get quite a bit of attention
besides, alot of people in the media are comic book fans, and alot of them are into Watchmen
i dont think its gonna do Dark Knight good, but i think itll do pretty well

  • Without a doubt it won't do Dark Knight ($1+ billion), but here are the 6 top grossing rated R movies.

    1. The Passion of the Christ - $370,782,930
    2. The Matrix Reloaded - $281,576,461
    3. Beverly Hills Cop - $234,760,478
    4. The Exorcist - $232,671,011
    5. Saving Private Ryan - $216,540,909
    6. 300 - $210,614,939

I could easily see this grossing $100+ million in 2-3 weeks. Since there is not really another blockbuster (that I can think of) coming out until May (I think the first is Wolverine), it really has smooth sailing (competitor wise).

There is a child movie at the end of March, but there should be a captive audience. I also don't see it having a problem breaking into the top 5 as 300 was not "mainstream".

    Totally agree with this, Juggernaut.

Me and the wife saw it opening day and we both loved it. This was a big deal for her...the Watchmen was the first book she really read and liked and the movie didn't disappoint.

  • well i finally saw the movie. for not reading the comic i think it was a good movie. i wouldnt put it at the top of my list but i would watch it again on tv or something. i like how it wasnt your normal super hero movie it should that they can be just like real people with all their problems. i think im going to look for it to read then maybe watch it again and see if i get more out of it.
