  • this is going to be terrible. i won't spoil anything, but there is no way that hollywood will allow certain scenes to appear in the movie (if you've seen it, you know what i'm talking about). american audiences in general are way too sensitive.

now, if they dropped all of the deep stuff, and turned it into a straight-up revenge movie ("I've been locked up for fifteen years! you stole my life! i'm going to kill you!!!!!!"), and had a lot of shooting and stabbing and explosions, then yes, i could see this getting released. but i'm too much a fan of the original that i would ever accept it as a remake. "loosely based on" maybe.

-and if you haven't seen his other movies i highly recommend these:
    sympathy for mr. vengeance http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0310775/
no sympathy for lady vengeance http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0310775/
i'm a cyborg but that's ok (this one is more a comedy) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0497137/

reading and collecting since the early '90s.

  • Its not a movie that can be remade, im surprised they even made it from the original manga
which i have not read *sigh*
but im stuck between I'm A Cyborg But That's Okay and The Day The Earth Stood Still (original one, obviously) for tonight, but i also recommended Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, as thats the only other movie ive seen

  • Oldboy was a great movie and americanizing it will butcher it. I'm starting to wonder if american hollywood has lost its imagination. Practically everything being made now is a remake of an older movie or a foriegn film. Honestly the originals are almost always better. Can you believe they're remaking Nightmare on Elm Street. Now if you want to see something original you need to check the B-Movie section. Come on Hollywood, try something original.

  • i have no idea what you guys are talking about but maybe ill have to look into it. as for hollywood they are getting lazy with the remakes and comic book movies. few are making up new stories.

  • You definetly need to check out this movie smeggie42. In fact, I suggest to everyone to check out the originals of a lot of those other remakes. Especially the japanese ones. Americans usually downplay the gore and scare factor of those movies.

Ringu is one of my all time favorite movies, cant stand The Ring. Same with Oldboy and a few others
Hollywood lost its creativity long ago, its all about how effects now
