  • I recently watched the new (2019) movie Midway. I'm certainly not the biggest war movie fan, but I will admit I was very impressed.

The battles between warboats and planes was just breathtaking to watch. It was also nice to see a movie NOT really choosing a side. It never once used slang words for referring to the Japanese even though it could have after their sneak attack on Pearl Harbour. It was just the story of what occurred at the time (without too much politics or finger-pointing involved). Very nice!!

  • I love war movies. I haven't seen the new Midway but the original was good. Really looking forward to the new Tom Hanks WWII Navy movie when this pandemic is over. Some of my favourites (not in order):
    1. Saving Private Ryan
    2. Platoon
    3. The Longest Day
    4. 1917
    5. Dunkirk
    6. Apocalypse Now
    7. Das Boot
    8. Black Hawk Down
    9. The Great Escape
    10. Full Metal Jacket (first half is fantastic, second half a let down for me)

  • I enjoy a good film no matter the genre. Four of the war movies I really enjoyed that have not been mentioned yet are "Unbroken", "Schindler's List", "Bridge Over the River Kwai" and "The Devil's Brigade".

  • Love war movies, grew watching a lot of them over and over again. A few more to add to the watch list,
Cross of Iron (with the great Jame Coburn and Max Schnell) directed by Sam Peckinpah
    A bridge to Far
The Big Red 1 (just to see Mark Hamil not be Luke Skywalker) also Lee Marvin

  • Thought of two more last night, though hardly your typical war movies, both are excellent films:
Jo Jo Rabbit and Life is Beautiful.
