  • I would guess maybe a 9.0, possibly even 9.2. Beautiful cover in any case!

  • Its funny because right around when these started getting hot, i picked up 606 & 607 for a buck a piece...Love these two, only wish they were the newsstand editions lol...

    Nice Find!!

Oh and fyi...i had a small tick that broke the color on my Hulk #1 Newsstand Edition...came back a 9.6...so either i got a grader who was super happy or your book is possibly a bit higher then a 9.2...Very HappyVery Happy

  • It’s all a bit subjective isn’t it!

Yes it is. From these Grade my comic threads, either people are grading too leniently, or I'm just grading my comics to hard.

From looking at the pictures, I would agree with Kree_Boy that it looks to be around 8.0 - 8.5. Great grab for only a couple of bucks.

  • @Vengeance and Kree_Boy:
I hope you don't mind if I ask what it is specifically that is causing you to grade this book so low? I can only see the one minor spinal crease that does not break color. What am I missing? I'd genuinely like to know as this will help me with my grading in the future. Thanks!

  • Most likely because one of the ticks does break colour.

As @smegg said, it's mainly due to the obvious large spine tick that breaks color. But when I magnify the picture as large as possible, it looks like there are quite a few spine ticks on this comic. It's difficult to tell from the picture. Like I said, I tend to grade my own comics harder than most people on CBR.

  • i still strongly disagree on the 8.0-8.5...i graded daredevil 131 and 168....both were (IMO) severely damaged, but i wanted to case them to save them... Both came back at 8.0, but ill tell you, comparing that book to mine, you are in the 9.2-9.6 range...

I've heard that CGC is more lenient grading older books. Maybe that's why your Daredevils came back as 8.0.

I'm hoping that kree_boy gets his ASM 607 graded, cause if you're right about the 9.2-9.6 range, then the copy that I bought off the shelf 10 yrs ago, should come back as a 9.8!

  • i call that a score lol...and you may be right about the older books, ive gotten all but 3 books graded myself, that i own...plus ive sold a bunch i had graded as well...Not at all saying im by any means a grading expert (im definately not) but i have at least a decent amount of experience with CGC and how they grade...I still feel this would come back in the 9.2-9.6 range based on the books ive done through them (i own 23 CGC graded books).

And this is why CGC or any grading service can't be trusted IMHO Shame on you

  • not really though canuck...it makes sense on older books, kind of like grading on a curve due to lack of protection options back then. There is no Action Comics #1 9.8 (1st printing lol)...for that reason. So using that as the highest grade, they grade off a curve. I am teetering in the middle when it comes to collector vs seller on graded books...i have my 'never gonna sell' stuff, but then there's some i purposely buy multiples of and grade multiples of to sell to fund this escapade...lol

if you are saying you cannot trust their interpretation of grade, i guess, but then again no one can really grade to the exact .5 of a grade point...lol...thats why i give a range because each grader will interpret the grade differently...That part is never going to change, i dont think it can.

p.s. i think Action #1 highest grade was something like a 9.0 (but i could be wrong)

  • No, I'm saying a 10 is a 10 no matter how old the book.
If you're grading to a standard it needs to be set across the board, that's why we have all this confusion of how to grade a book.

When I did testing for the Oil Industry we had grades for product that needed to meet,,. if it didn't I just couldn't say well this was produced 6 months ago so because it's old I can bump it up to make grade. It is what it is, no exceptions...and that's the way books should be graded as well. Just my 2 cents for something the industry see's as a bible and IMO it's anything but.

  • ah i see what you are talking about...i guess im okay with knowing the curve, not because my books come back at a higher grade, but because i know where compared to others of the same book they stand...i definitely see your point, and i agree with it, but i also agree with the way they do it...lol odd & strange, but i dont look as deep as you do with it...I really do it (collection wise) to preserve the book and i always play the guessing game, and compete with my brother at who gets the most and highest grades lol...theres more fun for me doing it i suppose...
