  • I'm attempting to sell a bunch of sports cards for my comic book dealer. They are all in the 2011 - 2015 range. These cards are sure not like the cards that I collected in the '80s (with that yucky gum included for free).

Most are signed, with pieces of jerseys and patches. I'm having a tough time trying to get values for each. It seems the better websites for sports cards want you to join for a monthly fee. I am a big NFL fan, but I care not for collecting sports cards.

Anyone out there with some expertise in this field? I'm willing to pay for your time and effort with free cards. Over 1000 hockey cards, hundreds of football, baseball and basketball cards in this small collection. Thanks for your consideration.

  • Interest in sports cards have dwindled in recent years. Here in the U.S. the ones that are still collected are mainly baseball cards of well known players from before the 1970s. I know a friend who recently sold a Roberto Clemente (MLB) collection for a nice profit. That same friend of mine still collects and says that early NBA cards are also desirable and can sell well. I don't know anything about hockey or football cards. My advice would be to pick out key players in your set from those years (2011-2015), then check with the online auctions to see what those cards are going for.

  • Thanks Rapha
I have been looking up prices from different sources just to get some kind of idea of the approximate value of these cards. Most of them are in the 2011-2015 range. A few a little earlier, but nothing ancient that might be worth lots of dough.

I understand that the player's name on the card is the best selling point, easily. Going through the basketball, football and baseball cards, there are not very many BIG names. The hockey cards (the vast majority) are trickier as I haven't watched hockey in years, so I don't recognize any names.

  • up until the pandemic that was totally true rapha, but cards were never any hotter then they are right now lol...A Mike Trout Rookie card sold for almost $4 mil lol...a Modern card having the Highest Sale Ever in trading cards lol...OMG...but i have been hearing through many different vines that cards are on their way up...so you dont need desperation sales...price high...you may be surprised...

Back when i was collecting sports cards a Honus Wagner card was the ultimate holy grail card valued at around the $1 mil mark...That Trout card simply dwarfs it, but came out in what the last 5-6 years or something...lol

I got rid of my cards eons ago, but i still hear things from shop owners and others still in that investing field...

Heres a bit on that Trout sale:

  • Wow AmZoMBIE I had no idea. That's some serious money there! My dad still sometimes buys cards as he's always been a baseball fan for life. I am going to have to check and see if he has a Mike Trout rookie card.

  • its funny...i got rid of all my sports cards sooo long ago, but recently (last 5 years or so) ive been picking up some of my favorite Red Wings rookies but only graded ones so they can stay nice...cards have wonky grading companies, and many lol...the ones i have currently are:

Igor Larionov PSA Gem Mt 10 (Topps 1990)
Bob Probert PSA Mint 9 (Topps 1988 )
Dominik Hasek PSA Mint 9 (Parkhurst 1992)
    Dino Ciccarelli PSA NM 7 (O-Pee-Chee 1981)
Dylan Larkin PSA Gem Mt 10 (Upper Deck 2015)

Sergei Fedorov BCCG Mint or Better 10 (Upper Deck 1990-91)
Niklas Lidstrom BCCG Mint or Better 10 (Upper Deck 1991-92)
Pavel Datsyuk BCCG Near Mint or Better 9 (Topps Chrome 2001-02)

The BCCG ones confuse me...i understand the Mint or Better 10 but the Near Mint or bettter 9? why grade that way? lol

That is my sports card collection lmao...ssoooooo many lol...oh and btw...i gave myself a $10 spending limit to get each of those lol...wont spend more then that, hence the reason i dont have Zetterberg, Yzerman, etc...
