- This post is to find out who among us has met someone famous/interesting in their travels. I'm talking names everyone will recognize. Hollywood actors, comic book notables, sport professionals or even world leaders.
Here's mine: I was at a comic book convention in Toronto about 10 years ago. I was waiting in line for an Alex Ross signature. I had to wait in line to get information of where I had to wait for a ticket (for free at least). The line-up was massive. The waiting time was annoying. When I was finally next in line to meet the famous Marvel painter, someone came over and budded in line in front of me who was NOT waiting in line. When I finally realized who it was, I was a bit shocked. It was none other than Michael Rosenbaum of Smallville fame. He was a big Alex Ross fan and started gushing over him explaining he had a Crisis On Infinite Earths painting by him hanging in his bedroom. I chimed in and said something along the lines of "Wow, Michael Rosenbaum you're a nerd like us". Needless to say, he gave me a death stare like none other I have ever seen before. I think he wanted to punch me in the face right on the spot. He didn't. I'm 6'5" and 275 lbs. he was barely over 5 feet tall. It would have been a mistake on his part. He soon left right after and I got a few comic books signed by Mr. Ross including a couple of Justice's and the first Terminator he did for Dark Horse. Alex was very warm and nice. He commented on the Spidey T-Shirt I was wearing. So I got to meet two notable people in a matter of seconds. Something I will never, ever forget.

- Wait a minute. No other CBR member has met some notable, cool or interesting person in their travels? I find that hard to believe. Strange.

- In my travels to Las Vegas, in the early 2000's, I ran into Steven Seagal walking down the strip. Mohamed Ali walked by my table when I was gambling on a different trip, when he was in LV to watch his daughter box. And the WWE wrestler Dolph Ziggler, was in front of me waiting in a line for customs at an airport. That's about all I can think of outside of comic cons.

- When I was a teenager my Dad got some season tickets to the Vancouver Canucks and I went to most of the games with him. Back in those days the players were far more accessible so I got lots of autographs of Canucks and the opposition players. Some years later I met Vancouver Whitecaps soccer legend in the parking lot after a game and we had a nice chat. In recent years I was fortunate enough to meet many local celebrities to write their stories for a magazine I was writing for. These names may not mean much to most of you but locals will recognize Legendary DJ Red Robinson, Hall of Fame broadcaster Jim Robson, All time CFL winningest coach Wally Buono, first Canuck captain Orland Kurtenbach, and, once again Bobby Lenarduzzi.
That was all very cool, but the most memorable experience to me happened unexpectedly one mid-week March afternoon when I was in Grade Nine. Our teacher decided it would be a good idea for our class to go to the local Provincial high school basketball tournament instead of stay in school. The games were not far away so we walked up in small groups. Well, as things turned out, my group was the last to get there, and on our way past a local hockey rink we heard sounds and looked in to see the Pittsburgh Penguins practicing. Now this was before Mario Lemieux or Jaromir Jagr, but for young teenage hockey fans this was surreal to be feet away from these pro hockey players we had only seen on TV or, in my case, a few games live. We watched practice for a few minutes and then, when the players came off we were able to go in the dressing room and get autographs and chat with them. Amazing day for a group of 14 year olds, and don't think we didn't lord it over our classmates when we joined them to watch the hoops action!!
