  • Why does Yoda and Obi Wan Kenobi disappear when they died but Qui Gon Jinn and Darth Vader have to be burned.

Thoughts on this and about Darth Plagueis about discovering the way to eternal life, could they be related.

  • When I was younger it was explained to me that the purity of the force in them when makes them disappear. Qui Gon was letting his hopes lead him astray (defying the council to train Anikan) so he kind of wasn't in tune with the force when he died. And, well Vader... I think it's obvious he wasn't exactly on the good side either.

I thought that Qui Gon learned how to communicate from death to Yoda and Yoda shared it with Obi. I think that Vader started figuring stuff out when Obi disappeared on him when he was struck down "becoming more powerful in death". If that were true then why is Anakin a ghost image as well? Anakin killed all those people and kids. Unless saving Luke is what saved him?

  • It's said that Qui-gon is the first to discover how to survive as a ghost after death. The end of Episode 3 Yoda tells Obi-Wan about this and apparently they both learn the secret from Qui-gon. On why Qui-gon's body didn't disappear, maybe it was something developed later by Yoda and Obi-Wan.

Anakin could have learned it from Palpatine as he DID survive past Return of the Jedi, his essence entered a clone he had stored and caused problems later on in the books.

Qui-gon and Vader didn't have to be burned, it was just done that way. And Vader could have vanished and Luke just burned his suit, I don't think that's ever been made clear.

As far as Darth Plagueis, they're FINALLY releasing a novel about him this winter. Up to know we know next to nothing about Palpatine (Darth Sidious) or his mentor except what we're told in Episode 3. Apparently Lucas did take out a line about how Anakin was the life that was created from nothing because he felt it was implied strongly enough as it is. Whether Sidious or Plagueis did though, guess we'll maybe find out in the books.

And yes, I'm a Star Wars geek so I can talk about this all day. I've read nearly every book that takes place after Jedi and some before it.

I have not read any of the books but that is cool to know that a book is being made about him. It does open the door for more questions that is for sure. I love Star Wars and got my kid hooked on it. He has went easy on it as of late but if you talk to him about it he is all about it. I had ALL the figures from the first 3 except for the red princess one. I did not end up keeping them though I wish I would have. I would have loved to have all my toys from my childhood now. Especially to share with my kids.

I even had the GI Joe 6 foot air craft carrier at one point. Boy I wish I had it now that thing is worth a lot.
