  • Jan Berenstain, who with her husband wrote and illustrated the Berenstain Bears books, gentle best-sellers that enlightened preschoolers for half a century with simple lessons about kindness and tidiness, and reasons not to be afraid of the doctor, died on Friday in Solebury, Pa. She was 88.

  • Ahhh yes. I think I read my kids every book on the Bernstein Bears ever written. I think "The Spooky Old Tree" was one of the favorites, as I recall.

    And fond memories all around since I was never one to read monotone, but I always used emphasis and different character voices. Made the tales much more interesting.
    The joy is in the journey, not just the destination.
