Collector for the sheer passion, as comics have had such an impact on my life. 3rd time around doing so and by far the greatest experience of them all. Lover of Silver Age, but have come around to bronze and dabble in the rest.

Daredevil, Domino and deciding...

It has been awhile since I wrote a blog about anything.  I looked back at my last one, and it was about 6 weeks ago.  I am kind of in the writing mood at the moment, so I thought I would put down a few thougts, for what it is worth.

So, starting off with Daredevil...I passed by the LCS on my way to work to pick up this week's release of Daredevil #611.  It is part 3 or 4 in the storyline of "The Death of Daredevil".  Do I really think Marvel is going to kill off this character?  Well, no.  He is too iconic to be put down, nuff said.  I will say, this particular issue is pretty amazing.  I don't want to spoil it, if you haven't picked it up yet, but DD takes on several villains and puts them to waste.  A little surprise at the end too.  I have been a DD fan for just about forever, picking up storylines here and there, and there have been some great runs.  With #609, the Battle Lines cover is simply gorgeous, and there is a cameo of a new villain the Vigil.  #610 has the full appearance of the Vigil, and I happened to pick up a second copy after seeing the interest online, and hearing the issue sold out.  I did include it in the Price Check on Aisle X feature here, and now see it is included on the "on the move" books rising to $10 today.

I really hadn't paid too much attention to Domino or her books, but was compelled to get this week's newest issue #8, due to the breathtaking cover artwork which included Morbius, whom I have been a big fan of forever as well.  The story itself surprised me.  It was actually pretty decent, and I enjoyed it.

Now it is decision time.  Monthly bonus time has come around again, which means some extra spending money for my favorite hobby here.  They changed the bonus structure making it harder to earn the various KPI's that are included, but luckily I had a pretty good month and scored about $300 after taxes.  I normally spend about half of it on something I really like to treat myself for the hard work.  Usually it is a pricier book (or books) that I normally cannot purchase any other time during the month.  The 3 big ones that I am looking at are.

1.  Amazing Spider-man #32 CGC 8.0 White/Off-white.  Valued at about $450 and selling for $125.  But...it is a UK pence version.  I don't have any experience with UK books, nor own any, but would think it should hold its value with the regular book, if not, pretty close to.  Either way, it would still be neat to have a pence book in my collection, and being a higher grade Silver Age Spidey book.  If I could OBO the seller to $100 I would feel much better, but still deciding with the other 2 to follow.

2.  Weird War Tales #1 in a 9.0 valued at about $475 and selling for $125.  It sounds like a no-brainer on this one in terms of long term investment, but still unsure just yet.

3.  Amazing Spider-man #101 and looks to be between a 5.0 and a 5.5.  It is valued around $100-$110 and selling for $150 OBO.  The cover is very faded but other than that, the rest looks good.  This is one book I have been searching for a decent copy of for a couple of years at least.  It is near impossible to find one under $250, and not to mention, a big movie on the horizon.

Decisons...hmmm, I may have to think on them all a bit more, or decide none at all.  That may leave some extra funds for something else, or other books that cross my path that I may be glad I have some extra money for.

  • If it was ME, I'd grab that Weird War Tales. . .but it seems to me like you really want that ASM 101, so go for it!

And about that cover for DD 609, I'm with you on that! Marvel REALLY knocked it out of the park with those Battle Lines variants. I grabbed about 10 comics I don't even normally read for those covers alone.

  • I am probably going to regret not getting the Weird War tales, but opted to not get any of the 3. I did however order a DD#7 in a 7.0 with the first appearance of Mr. Fear for considerably less. I had to follow my heart and head to what I personally enjoy. This time at least lol. I also have an OBO out for a F.O.O.M. #13 which is the Daredevil issue. I thought I would save a little money, or have some extra for another time. Coincidentally, I have to bring my son to the Clinic later on, which would eat up the additional funds I would have spent.
As far as that DD 609 Battle Lines variant....right? That cover is tight! One of the best I have seen this year, and the same goes for the Domino book that came out this week. The story in the latest DD is really entertaining. I bought the DD and Domino prior to going in to work the other day, and read them both on my lunch break. I didn't want to wait until I got home haha.

  • * I typed DD#7, but meant #6 but pretty sure you knew that. I do wish I had a #7 with the first Red costume, but that isn't happening anytime soon.

  • Your blog on Daredevil was a good read. It lead me to the thought of why Marvel hasn't gone into production on a current Daredevil movie? Surely there are enough story plots to go off of now that the Comic has been out for so long. Typhoid Mary, Bulls Eye(which they already used and Killed off)

I know that it most likely has to do with Contract Rights with Netflixs, but hey if Marvel can pull off what they did with the Avengers franchise, I think that they should be able to put together Daredevil, Punisher, Ghostrider and a new X-men franchise. .......if they stick to following the storyline of the comics. I was disappointed with the X-men movies after #3. Of course I had issues with # 2 and 3.
