Real autographs or not?

Collector for the sheer passion, as comics have had such an impact on my life. 3rd time around doing so and by far the greatest experience of them all. Lover of Silver Age, but have come around to bronze and dabble in the rest.

Real autographs or not?

Todd M.

Hello there,

I was hoping I could get some opinions on whether or not you think these are authentic autographs by Rob Liefeld and Todd McFarlane.

I got this book at a win at an auction and posted about it in the check it out forum earlier.

I don't have a scanner, but have taken 2 close ups of the autographs.  Hopefully I can post both photos in this one post.  I haven't tried that before, so if not, I may have to put a part 2 on this blog to include the second photo.

Thank you!

  • Well if it were up to me, I would question it. I am no expert, but looking at other signed Comic Books by Todd McFarlane(Graded non the less) shows that he Spells out his full first name. It also looks like both of the letter 'a' 's that he spells out in his last name are intentionally backwards with the letter's 'R' and 'N' starting off of them. The 'E' at the end of his last name seems to look more straightened at all sides and not rounded.

Like I said, I am no expert, but looking at his autograph of graded comic books online and comparing it to this one, there seem to be more than two differences.

  • That is for sure something to take into account. So thank you for providing more in depth knowledge. I am also wondering if his signature has changed over time...like if he may have shortened his signature in his earlier days?

  • I'm no expert either, but I have a signed copy of Spawn #1. . .from back in the day when that was worth something. . .and the signature looks almost exactly the same as yours. If what you have is worth a few bucks, you probably want to get it checked and slabbed by the experts, though.

Thank you and great idea. I am in no rush, but if I hit the Wizard Con in New Orleans in January, I will see if they provide anybody authenticating autographs and bring it along.
