Collector for the sheer passion, as comics have had such an impact on my life. 3rd time around doing so and by far the greatest experience of them all. Lover of Silver Age, but have come around to bronze and dabble in the rest.

They say you can't judge a book by it's cover...but in the comic collecting world, a cover may be the sole reason for making a purchase.
There have been plenty of purchases made, because I was moved in some way by the cover. Covers are works of art. Some covers may impact the majority of fans or collectors, and some may just influence a small segment.
What are some comic covers that really spoke to you, so much that you just had to purchase them? I would love to hear about it from anyone that would like to share, or submit photos for all to see. What did you like about it, what prompted the purchase?
One book that I ran across in a search last year was Batman #230. The cover is so striking. Early 70's Giordano Batman popping right off the cityscape cover with the Red beret wearing Black Panthers, on motorcycles...even flashing the black power fist symbol.
When I stumbled upon this cover in my searches, I knew I had to have it in my collection.
Any great covers/pics/stories behind the reasons are encouraged and welcome!

I have recently found myself standing in front of the 'New weeks comics' rack and looking at the cover; going from side to side and glancing at the ones that really peak interest. Image has thrown out a few good ones with both Good Covers and Story; Black Magik and Black Science along with Tokyo Ghost come to mind.
In the 90's I found myself collecting more with all of the crossovers that took place; X-men, X-factor and ghost Rider, Night Stalkers, Morbius and such. It's funny how one goes from Story, to Cover Artwork to Story and Artwork....must be the price.
The new racks yes...sort of a love/hate relationship with that, but I am trying here. The magic I see is in the Silver age books and stories, and then the 80's books that I grew up collecting, and again in the 90's books when I picked collecting up again. I get some new books, but the majority of what I look for are 60's-80's books. Things have come a long way for sure.
I gave it a shot and made nothing but new rack purchases yesterday, and am pleased. Still stuck with the established characters for the most part (Spawn, x-men, Moon knight, sandman).
Image I agree has some great books out. Top quality art, stories, paper used...and haven't jacked up their prices to accommodate for it.
The crossovers are really cool, it gets you another look at a book that you may not have been collecting. The ones that come to mind from back then and before, were the Mutant Massacre x-men crossovers, and the Secret wars tie ins.
