  • Marvel's Star Wars #1 To Sell Over 1 MILLION Copies

    comicbook.com —

The series, which takes place between the events of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Backand features all of the major characters from the film, is due in stores January 14, 2015. It is written by Jason Aaron, with artwork by John Cassaday. While Marvel handled the official adaptations of the original Star Wars trilogy and had a successful Star Wars series around the time of their theatrical release, 2015 will be the first time in decades that the publisher has handled the Star Wars license.

  • A million copies divided by 59 variants = 16,949 actual books that wouls be sold...not great.

  • So a million copies have been ordered by retailers, that doesn't mean that a million copies will actually be sold! As to Marvel's move away from News stands, I think it's going to get harder and harder to get new collectors in to the hobby as comics are harder and harder to find, for me to get a comic book now I have to drive 80 miles round trip or order them online and I just don't see a parent ordering comics online for their kids. Just another nail in the coffin for the hobby that has been in my life for the last 50 years!

  • If retailers order a million copies that's how many are actually sold!

  • It might be that not are sold, but pretty close tho. The retailers can%u2019t send them back like in the good ol days. Retailers almost always sold out, because no one wants o have extra comics they can%u2019t sell. I%u2019d say about 98% will be sold, that%u2019s 980,000 actually sold, so I would say that it%u2019s inconsequential. There%u2019s probably as many variant covers as their are %u201Cregular variants%u201D oh and the 6 different printing of the same book. These books are going to be worthless. Buy the original series if you want your collection to be more valuable. Then they%u2019ll put a show of it to increase demand, and in 3 years who cares? No one. But if you put the same money towards older original series you%u2019ll have something.
