"I dip my nuggets in awesomesauce"

Who am I? I can at times either be really sarcastic or a smart ass. I'm confident, but not vain. I collect comics. I game everyday if possible. I draw when something inspires me to. I program everyday because I get paid to. I think CBR rocks :)

RIP Michael Turner

If you look through my comic collection you'll notice a trend, most of the comics have art by Michael Turner. He has been my favorite artist since my senior year back in 1998, when I first came across his amazing work in Witchblade. As an a budding artist, it made me want to push my skills to limit, and as a comic collector, I had to everything that was his, as it is all a work of art.

I just heard today that Michael passed on Friday and tears instantly flowed. I didn't know Michael personally, but had hoped to meet him at an upcoming WizardCon, even if it was just to tell him what an inspiration he was. Rest in peace Michael.

  • It's funny, I never got into Witchblade, Fathom or Soulfire, but I've always been aware of his work. His Superman/Batman issues are among my favorite, and I was so looking forward to his Ultimate Origins. He was a force in comics, and it's tragic that he couldn't be around a lot longer.

    • (My original comment below got cut off..) Exactly, even if you didn't know about his earlier works, his DC and Marvel works gained him new fans. Talented man all around.

    • I won that same Millenium book in the 2006 auction here. I didn't realize how much he did outside comics until I read it. He would have made an excellent elder statesman in the realm of comics.

  • Wow - I did not know he had passed away until I read this. He certainly was a good artist and creative.

I enjoyed Fathom, Soulfire and his Superman/Batman run.

    • Yes it came as a shock to me, I knew he went into remission a couple months back but I thought he'd come through again - or perhaps this is his way of beating it, he's at peace now.

  • turner's non-marvel/dc books were never available in my area.
really not a comic shop close enough to call a LCS.
i always wanted to check out the fathom story.
are his fathom books available in trades?

    • I'm sure there's places online where you can buy the past volumes for Fathom, and there may be people here on CBR that are selling the original versions.

    • Yes. I read the first Fathom book in TPB. Quite a good read. And the art kind of goes without saying on his books.
