Childhood Dreams or Mid-Life Crisis?

I loved collecting comics! I was the kid that got all my friends into them. I would hound our local store looking for my favorites.

I guess it all started with a guy named Steve. Steve came to live with us when I was a kid. He must have been 18 or 19 years old. He had a box that would have been worth a small (or large) fortune today. I instantly fell in love. Before Steve decided to move on, he offered his entire collection to me... for a small fee of course. I think it was $100. A lot of money for a kid like me. Well, Mom said no and that day I was determined to have a collection.

My most valued was an X-Men. I am not sure which # but I remember it had Magneto and Colosuss on the front. At the time it was worth about $125. I was so proud of that comic. X-Men were always my favorite.

One day my friend Josh came over and said he had found a box of comics in the attic of his grandads home. His collection blew mine out of the water! I was determined to get my hands on some of those oldies. Josh and I began playing Tonk (card game), needless to say I quickly went from about 75 comics to about 15 of my most treasured. Josh and I still joke about that day he "taught me a vaulable lesson." I still don't gamble to this day!

As I grew older into my late teens I quit collecting, but kept my most treasured tucked away safe to one day give my son. In my early 20s I had to move out of my mother's house. I left the comics there figuring they would be safer. 6 years later upon my return they were no longer there.

Fast forward, I am 35 now. A couple of years ago I went into a comic shop and bought my son his first comic and something awoke in me that day! I wanted to get my collection back! Now I have been on the hunt, but can only remember a handful of titles I had. I am excited though!

Whether it's a childhood dream or a mid-life crisis, I am glad to have my collection up and running again. My son has his own and ultimately, one day, he will have mine! Thanks for listening to my ramblings... send me a friend request!
