Batman: The Dark Knight Review

Heath's performance is stunningly beautiful

As with all of these movies I have been able to score sneak preview tickets and can see them days before the rest of you.  Because of this I shall ruin it all for you by telling you this.

Are you ready for it?

Are you sure?

Well...they reveal that Batman is a SKRULL! Ha!  I knew it!

Just kidding.  You know this has got to be the most talked about and hyped up movie of the year.  DC probably saved millions in not having to promote it too much (I remember seeing Iron Man commericals all over TV but cannot honestly remember seeing a Batman one).

Often times I find that when I go to see a movie like this I have HIGH expectations and am almost always let down.

I have got to tell you the hype got even worse before the movie started.  Turns out this sneak preview was IMAX.  Granted this was not as cool as I thought as only "select" scenes turned out to use it (most of them "zoom" shots of the city). - Even the wife asked me on the way out which were the IMAX scenes.

On the way home I was trying to rack my small brain to think of a sequel that was better than the first.  Honestly the only one I could come up with was Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back...and I never even saw that one in the theater (well not until they re-released it remastered some 20+ years later)

This movie is THAT good.  If I could legally give it more than 5 stars I would (well I guess I own the site but I am too lazy for more programming right now).  It was rather long...almost 2.5 hours...and there were times that I felt it just drag on, but overall it is a must see AND a must own.

It is what they say that likely Ledger will receive an Oscar for his performance.  It was so believable.  It reminds me of when I went to see Cold Mountain with Kidman and Zellweger.  At the end of that movie I told my wife that Zellweger would win for Best Supporting Actress (and she did).  Heath will win for Best Supporting Actor (and not just because of his sad and untimely death).

Also...as we have heard/read there is a "tribute" to Heath and the other person that died who helped make the movie.  Although it was nice, it came mid-credits and was just a one liner...nothing special (I would have liked to see more).

As an added bonus the only trailer before the movie was for "The Watchmen" which until now I had no desire to really go see...but it was cool (even the wife thought it).

Not to spoil anything but my favorite scene/one liner from the movie is: "Wanna see a magic trick? I bet I can make this pen disappear"

Enjoy!

 - On a side note my wife mentioned before the start why didn't I print up some small "ads" about ComicBookRealm.com and place them on the seats before these movies started (since I see them all).  I said "You are just now suggesting this 5 movies into the year?"

    • I honestly cannot remember a thing about X2 vs X1. Like what the plot was, etc.

When you see this movie you shall understand

  • i plan on seeing it tonight.
dough boy may have seen it before the rest of us, but i'm gonna see it before anyone in my area.
and i'll be all alone so i can enjoy it.

kind of want to close the theater early just so i can see it sooner.

Thats hilarious.......i won Tickets from Clints to go to the IMAX showing out in Olathe....but sadly other "more pressing" things happend that day....hopefully this weekend...but it would have been double sweet for free...

  • Saw it. Yay. Can't believe they killed Bale. That's a weird way to end it, but they should hurry with the next one now!

    • Ugh, I have a weird sense of humor at 4am. Obviously they didn't kill Batman. I'm tempted to start spoiling now, but maybe I'll wait until more people have had a chance to see the movie. I gotta say, looking back, it is pretty frickin' epic. Lots of good twists. I'm encouraged by the number of people at my office who plan to see it this weekend. And I'd leave the kids 12 and under at home, although every kid is different and most of the disturbing stuff is off screen.

  • it was well worth not getting to bed until 4 am and being back at the theater for today's 14 hour shift.
the disappearing pen trick was fantastic.

also, the watchmen trailer was exciting.
i made sure i put that on, when i put the movie together.

over all, the movie was great.
in my opinion, ledger's joker was fabulous.

  • I saw this at the 12:01 showing and left the theater with my jaw on the floor wanting more. This movie was as close to perfect as you can get. Any future comic move will have a hard time even coming close to this. Out of four stars this get a 5!

  • i gave it a 4/5, there was some stuff that drags out,
    but the joker was great.

  • i loved the movie

  • I think that's a fair review. I myself will have to give it a 4/5 for those parts that dragged. I think the problem was the whole Two-Face storty arc. I really couldn't get into that. It seemed like filler. All this movie needed to be was Batman vs the Joker. When those two characters were on the screen it was amazing. Then..yawnnn....here's some more Harvey Dent and the girl...yawwnnn. Oh sweet it's the Joker again!!!
The pencil trick left me a little stunned, I was just sitting there not quite knowing what to think, probably the same as the mob bosses in the room.
What about Aliens for a great sequel?

  • Loved the movie but what is really freaking me out is the last line of the movie. "Gotham killed the Hero it needed but now has the hero it deserves." that really wierds me out

  • "What about Aliens for a great sequel? " I'd rather see predator but to each his own. I just realized today one thing that bothered me about the movie is that they never had the building with the fire in the shape of a bat in the movie, did they? That would have been a great gag.
