Spoilers inside...read at your own risk!

I decided the other day that I was going to break down and watch this movie in the theater.  Even though it has been getting bad reviews I didn't care.  Plus, if you go see it during the day the ticket cost is only $5 (half of the normal cost and the same cost as renting it on demand).

I didn't have very many expectations.  I just know that I read about why it took what 20 years to appear...that Ford, Spielberg, and Lucas couldn't agree on a suitable plot.

So because it took 20 years you would have thought that this would have had to have been an excellent plot.

So for the good...there was a lot of the old school "punching" that you come to expect from the previous movies.  And also...wait...that is about the only positive thing I can come up with about it.

All of the other movies were somewhat believable (sure you might have a problem with some of them, but not compared to this).  I mean from Indy surviving an atomic bomb (in a refrigerator), to giant red ants eating people, to freaking aliens this one was way out there.

I think that Ford, Spielberg, and Lucas had to have been smoking something to approve this.  Maybe they got too money hungry to worry about what kind of they were putting out.  They had to know that anyone that saw the first 3 would automatically go and see the 4th.

At the end they tried to indicate that Shia Lebeouf (star from Transformers) who come to find out is Indy's kid from back in the day will become the new Indy.  Thankfully it appears that they got smart and realized that it just won't work with more crappy plots.

I would rate this a 2.5 out of 5 stars just from the fact that it is an Indiana Jones movie.  it was long, parts were downright boring and predictable, and it was just not believable.

I would wait until it comes out free on one of the movie channels.

  • I agree the plot was pretty far fetched and out there....but it was still a fun ride!
    I found Shia to be rather annoying in Transformers, but here I think his style of acting worked. I loved the set-up of the hat blowing in to Shia's feet...I was thinking, no way! Then Indy picks it up...sweet. Harrison will be back for Indy #5!!! I'll probably go see that too.

  • I totally agree with Dough on this one. Being that this was the first movie I had seen in a year, I was totally disillusioned by the production. It left me with the same bad taste as when I went to see the last Men In Black. What I found most interesting was the crappy performance given by Karen Allen (Marion Ravenwood). I am not sure if it was the script or the passage of time, but it sure gave me the impression she is out of practice. There were a lot of disconnects too which made the flow of the movie loose momentum. In summary the movie went something like this;

    Russians why are we fighting Russians action crap -> boring every one is dead from Indiana Jones II crap -> greasers fighting jocks action crap -> trying to figure out crazy professor treasure map boring crap -> why are they in this stupid grave yard again??? -> fight scene from Indiana Jones II but twice as long ->Tarzan swinging from the trees action crap -> rip off from National Treasure II action crap -> aliens........... dimensional travel........???? Oh I must have walked into the Doctor Who showing after taking a pee, let me go check.... no it is the right theater!!!!!!!!! -> Indiana gets married. The End..........
