So if you have read my other blogs you have noticed that I got a new computer...and then got another new computer a week later.
I just received the "replacement" computer this morning and I have spent all day setting it up.
I put it on the desk and started setting it up. As I mentioned in the previous blog my graphics card was upgraded as well. I didn't know what this meant as to a layman it is only a "version" number. Well when I was plugging everything in I noticed that there is only one DVI connection on the card. Where the other older card had 2 DVI connections the new one had just the one and it replaced the other with an HDMI slot.
While this is cool and all I do not have an HDMI capable monitor. Try explaining that to the Mrs. Hey Amanda I need to go get another new monitor because these 2 that I have won't work together. Yeah right...that won't happen
I called Dell and they told me that this card can support 2 DVI monitors on the one connection. The problem is that I need to get a Y cable to connect them. I noticed that Dell sells them so I fired off an e-mail to customer service telling them to send me one (or I guess they could send me an HDMI ready monitor). Anyways...on to setting up.
The first thing I did was install Vista Ultimate 64Bit. This was a very smooth process. It was also nice as it wiped my computer from all of the "junk" that normally would go on it. After I had the OS up I went ahead and started installing programs.
I run Adobe CS3 Web premium, Office 2003 Professional (I have a copy of 2007 Professional somewhere), and a slew of other smaller aps.
I then used the Easy Transfer Cable (a must if you get a new computer) to sync the "old" new computer to the new one. It ran for about an hour or so and moved all of our files over again.
It took me all day...but I am glad to say that it appears everything is behind me...no 64Bit horror stories and driver problems...knock-on-wood.
Now I think I will spend the rest of the evening chilling with the family...possibly get some dinner. I will check in tomorrow and see what is up and work on fixing/improving some things.

If you do get a second monitor, can you run a HDMI to DVI cable to hook it up? I did that, but just reversed, my monitor supported HDMI input.
I know the satisfying feeling of setting up and getting everything running again on a new computer....at least you had the day to do it, not an all nighter until everything is right job!
