Super Bowl 43: THE Big Game

So I am sure that most of us spent last night watching the game.  I usually do not pay attention to the game, I watch it for the commercials.

I actually do the complete opposite of normal football watching.  During the normal game I will get up and do stuff during the commercials, but during the Super Bowl I will get up and do stuff during the game.

So I have AT&T's UVerse.  Basically we can have 4 "streams" at one time.  This means 4 different channels, or 2 HD channels (HD counts as 2 streams).

We hit the 2 minute warning with the Stealers moving down the field.  Then all of a sudden the TV turns black and AT&T says that we have too many streams to continue watching.  I go check the recordings and we are recording both Big Love and The United States of Tara in HD.  Thus we have no way to watch the rest of the game.

I get ready to cancel Tara as that is just my wife's show and we both watch Big Love when she yells at me to cancel "my show" because hers is not recording in HD (even though it says it is).

I then cannot figure out how to cancel just this recording and so I have to cancel the whole series recording.  I get it canceled and get back to the channel and I see them doing an instant replay of the winning touchdown catch.

My sister-in-law then tries to setup the recording on the non-HD version and I yell at her that I don't give a about it because the guy is in the endzone.  So I was very and my wife thinks it is funny.

Un freaking real.

Oh...and the commercials sucked.  I honestly cannot remember one so obviously they didn't impress me at all.  And what is up with this 3D thing.  I had no idea about it until I saw those commercials and I complained to my wife how crappy they looked for $3 million a piece.

She then tells me they are the 3D ones and she happens to have the free 3D glasses (where the have I been).  But here is my problem with the 3D stuff.  Who wants to sit in their living room with glasses on?  What about those Chuck fans that did not watch the Super Bowl and do not have glasses?  Tonight's Chuck will royally suck for them.

Is this the start of a new thing?  We have regular TV, and HD TV.  Now we will have to pay another $10 a month for 3D TV, and then still another $10 a month for HD 3D TV.  They can keep their money until someone figures out a holographic machine like Star Trek.

That is the future!

  • Sounds like quite the comedy of errors! Only not so comedic on your end. Watching the Superbowl shouldn't be stressful, especially if you're not a big fan of either team. I'm so glad I live off the antenna. I don't look forward to the next time we get cable or dish. I hate to sound like a complete clod, but the companies have made watching tv more difficult instead of easier.

I think the 3D thing is a phase, just like it was in the 60's, late 80's and...now. A coworker told me that Chuck was going to be in 3D, but otherwise I heard nothing about it. I searched high

  • Stupid ampersand! Long story short, I found glasses, it was neat, Chuck should be neat, but I look forward to going back to 2D.

  • Oh...did I have a bug and you couldn't comment with &'s?

    I think I fixed it...let's see.

    • Looks like it's fixed. I ran into the same problem commenting on a news item and forgot to bring it to your attention at the time. No big deal.

  • yeah i waited through the whole first half because my friends wife wanted to watch the 3-d stuff (he works for pepsi so we all had the glasses, he had to put them up in displays) and it was like 2 commercials, maybe a total of 5 minutes.... pretty lame.
We were playing soul calibur 4 on my new x-box 360 so I was pissed when they wanted to watch the super-bowl ( I guess I really am a nerd)
