I finally broke down and decided to send in some comics for grading to CBCS.
I had one comic that needed signature verification, a few that needed pressing, and a few that I just wanted to get slabbed. CBCS was running a 20% off sale, so I decided to take the plunge and see what came of it!
CBCS prices are comparable to CGC (about $2 less per book), even without a sale. What they do not tell you, however, is that if you have some books that need pressing, and some that do not, they will actually split your order and tack a bit on to the shipping (and extra $16 in my case). I was a bit disappointed by this, because it wasn't clear when I submitted the order and paid. At the same time, this isn't the end of the world, and I now know to submit my books separately in the future.
The turnaround time was advertised as 6 weeks when I submitted the order. From the time they left my hands to the time they returned (the books that did not need pressing) was 4 weeks- 2 weeks faster than advertised, which was awesome!
The slabs are very nice and I think I like them better than the CGC slabs. The labels are very nice and the grader's notes are availabe for viewing online at no extra charge. These books all came back fairly high grade, so there wasn't too much to read on the notes.
I am anxiously awaiting my pressed books, and I am starting to round up the next group for submission. I am a fan of CBCS for sure at this point!
How do you think CBCS grading stacks up vs CGC? Anyone out there have any advice on reselling slabs and value of CGC books vs CBCS?
