Former employer weirdness

3322 views • Oct 1, '08 • (3) Comments

So I worked for my former employer for 6+ years.  Gave them blood, sweat, and tears.  They were my first professional job and right now accounts for 80% of my professional life and thus makes up a large portion of my resume.

One of the products I designed and help build was an online event registration system.  When I was in the hospital with my dad he asked me if I would help him setup an event on it that was coming up.  So I e-mailed and was told to create a new account instead of using one that the organization already had.  I thought nothing of it and created the account, then proceeded to setup the event.

As I was "test registering" for the event I noticed a new feature they added (likely was "demanded" by a client and of course we could never say no).  Basically it was a running ticker that floated and told you as you progressed how much your registration was currently costing.

A trillion dollars

I am adamantly against the bailout (was on Friday when everyone else was for it...now you are all on my bandwagon after having a weekend to think about it).

But here is why they say we need it.  The loan markets have basically dried up...they are not loaning people any money because they are saddled with debt.  People that need to sell their house cannot because no one can buy.  They lower their price, and the cycle continues.

It is thought that if the debt was no longer on the banks books (they sell the debt to the Gov't for pennies on the dollar) that they will then be free to loan more money and thus restarting the housing market somewhat.

First of all...wow have I not blogged in awhile.  Well I guess that means no one has missed me.

So this blog will be a little off topic.  Normally I try to stick to the task at hand (comics), but this is something that I just find interesting.

The other day I was reading an article that talks about how the Majority (whites) will become the Minority by 2050 in the US.  We won't become the minority to one group, but to all groups combined.

Batman: The Dark Knight Review

As with all of these movies I have been able to score sneak preview tickets and can see them days before the rest of you.  Because of this I shall ruin it all for you by telling you this.

Are you ready for it?

Are you sure?

Hellboy II: The Golden Army Review

Before I get into my review of the movie after I saw it last night...let me preface my review with a "setup".

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to go.  My wife doesn't get home until 6:30 and they start seating at 7.  So that would mean that I would be late in line.  Luckily I had a co-worker going and asked her if her family could save me a seat or place in line and she said yes.

So I show up 10 minutes after seating opened, and about 1 minute after it closed.  I walked to the front of the line and told the guy that I had already been in, I was just in the bathroom.  I technically had a seat saved so it wasn't like I was cutting.

Batman's Bat-Pod

So I got wind that it was going to be on display for a few hours early today at a local theater.

Lucky for me I was going to work from home and this theater is near me (where I see most of my movies anyways).

I grabbed my camera and headed over.  You can see the photo gallery here: Batman's Bat-Pod Gallery

Wanted Movie Review

3037 views • Jun 27, '08 • (2) Comments

Ok...so I saw this one last night.

I have never read the series but the previews looked decent to me, it stars Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman (2 of my favorites), and it is a comic book movie.  So this meant that it is a must see.  Plus it doesn't hurt that I worked it handing out free passes so I got to get there later and save a prime seat.

After watching this movie I would have to compare it to 300 meets NY and the millenium.  It was a very graphic and VERY violent movie.

KCFanCon June 2008

Kree_Boy alerted me that there was a convention today...and ironically I received my reminder postcard yesterday.

I was worried the Mrs. would say I couldn't go but since I let her go out on a "Mother's Night Out" thing last night I think I was safe.  So after I got Lexi to bed I headed up to the hotel.

I have been to one of these before (same hotel) and I wasn't expecting much.  Really I just wanted to go through some quarter/dollar bins to pick up some missing books to fill in some runs.

New Samsung 61" TV

3582 views • Jun 19, '08 • (3) Comments

So I am sure a lot of you are thinking that I must be made of money...rest a surred I am not, it is just creative financing.

Last weekend Best Buy had a deal on Samsung TV's that I (not my wife) just couldn't pass up.

Basically you buy any Samsung "flat panel" TV and you get 3 years no interest.  To top it all off I was also able to get the TV price matched (I thought this would be very hard).

Tim Russert died

I am not saying that I am a huge fan of his...but you know what I am human and it is sad when people of his "stature" die unexpectedly (especially if you start thinking it was a conspiracy theory).

One of the wonders (I guess you can call it that) of today's modern age is Wikipedia. It is almost comical how quickly it is updated when something occurs.

Heck I work in a newsroom and heard about it the minute it happened. I decided to see if someone updated Wikipedia and they had.
