Bob Wiacek:
Bob has been active since the 1970s. He was a member of a group of comic book inkers known as the Crusty Bunkers. This group of comic book professional were based around Continuity Studios, a jointly run art and illustration studio that was notable for the expansion of graphic novels into genres not usually associated with comic books. - GSCF is proud to announce our next guest for our upcoming Aug 23rd show. GSCF Welcomes a legend in comic history Herb Trimpe.
After attending the School of Visual Arts in New York City. There his instructor and longtime comics artist Tom Gill (Lone Ranger) needed a student to ink his backgrounds. This is how Herb started, at Dell Comics, doing mostly Westerns and also licensed books, like the adaptation of the movie Journey to the Center of the Earth. From here Herb began a four year term serving in the military USAF. After the military Herb freelanced at Marvel inking westerns before being offered a full-time position. During this time Stan Lee offered Trimpe the job of drawing The Incredible Hulk. Herb drew The Hulk for eight years, during which time Herb’s pencils helped give birth to one of the most iconic figures in comic history, The Wolverine in issue #181 of The Hulk. In the 1980’s Herb worked with Larry Hama to bring GI Joe back and introduced us for the 1st time to Cobra. Other titles to his credit were Transformers, Godzilla, GI Joe Special Missions, Shogun Warriors, The Defenders, Fantastic Four Unlimited to name a few throughout Herb’s 30 year career at Marvel.
