At the 41 min mark, I found it interesting when Claremont said the X department is forbidden to create new charcters because Disney doesn't own the movie rights and will not do any mechandising for X-Books

  • Gotta love those legal issues. Anxious Wasn't that one of the reasons a lot of artists and writers left Marvel in the 90s to start Image?

You know I sometimes feel bad for Claremont. I consider him the true creator of the X-Men. He wrote those books for nearly 20 years and gave us all the great stories and characters that have made the movies and cartoons popular today. And yet, because the characters don’t really belong to him he and all these other writers are confined to what they can or cannot do. That’s the axe to what kills creativity and probably the reason his more recent work has not been as relevant.

  • Don't forget John Byrne had a big hand in all those stories and characters.

  • Yes, there were lots of artists that gave vision to Claremont's writing when he was on X-Men. Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri come to mind. All greats today.

Byrne not only "gave vision" to Claremont's words, Byrne is also credited and responsible for co-plotting many of the stories. Terry Austin doesn't get enough credit for his artistic contributions too.
