I thought I'd make a post where I can just mention books that are hot. That way they are all in one place and not being littered across the forum. Very Happy

Morning Glories #1
Strangers in Paradise #1
Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1
NYX #3
Thief of Thieves #1
New X-Men #128
Uncanny X-Force #4
Peter Panzerfaust #1
Uncanny X-Force #5
Saga #1

There were a lot of sets and lots of variants that I found while using the website The Market that I cut from the list due to keeping this list pure (no variants or sets) but it's interesting to see what SDCC 2012 variant is already "heating up" and what series are gaining momentum.

Shoulda bought more Saga #1.... didnt think it would skyrocket in price this soon. Hell, it was only released a few months ago, only just now released its 5th issue. Still, great book.

I know, right? Should of bought more of those and Thief of Thieves. Brick wall

Saga and Thief of Thieves are my two favorite ongoing comics at the moment. I'm still reading Morning Glories, but I'm wondering when the story will pick up. Each issue just leaves more questions.

Here's Nick Spencer's response to this:
================================

The book is a long-form mystery. I really never have any idea what else to say to this stuff. I don't think most of the narratives are terribly complex, even. And it's not like we don't answer questions. We answer questions in nearly every issue. It's just a lot of those answers will lead to new questions.

Sorry, I don't mean for that answer to sound obtuse, but it's really the best I can give. We're twenty issues in, yes, but that's not that far in a story that's going to run 100, 100+ issues. We've been hearing that since somewhere around 4 issues in.

It's not going to get smaller, or simpler from here, I can say that much. And if it did, frankly, I'm not sure what the book would even be anymore. The entire point of the story structure is for you to not be able to figure it all out at this stage. If you did, the story would just be over-- again, it's a mystery. But you know considerably more than you did at the end of 01, right?

If you're not feeling any attachment for the characters, or can't keep them straight, I dunno... I feel like these are some of the best-defined, most distinctive characters in comics, but I'm biased. There's not one of them that doesn't have some fan shrine out there, so they are registering with some people. But mileage varies. I think the book suffers a bit when read quickly as part of a stack, it's a little more demanding than that, but I really have no idea if that's your chosen method.

As for Jun and Hisao, they're twins. They switched identities when the faculty came to get them. That's it, really. Same with Jade, sort of-- there's a younger one, and an older one. That's really all we know at this stage.

Bottom line, no, we're not anywhere near the point where there aren't new questions coming. You'll get answers to a lot, too, but there's a lot more to discover. Some people enjoy the journey, others decide they can't keep it straight/don't want to wait it out, and I get that. But the book is not on the cusp of becoming something other than the long-form mystery we pitched it as on day one.

Sorry, I am probably not the guy to answer these questions Smile

Also, this site may be cool for you to explore:

I haven't looked at it yet but I think they go over each issue in detail. Should be a good read.

I'll keep reading Morning Glories because Spencer does have me hooked. I just hope the payoff is worth the tremendous setup.

A found a bunch of books slightly off the beaten path that are doing reasonably well at $10 or more and a couple of bids on eBay. And a few variants from books that are well known that are also doing rather well. Perhaps these can be considered books that are "Heating up"?

Harbinger #2 (1990)
Mylo Xyloto #1 SDCC variant
Harbinger #2 (2012) 1:20 variant
Revival #1 1:10 variant
Chew #1 2nd printing
Thief of Thieves #2

In the attempt to keep this thread alive I'll talk about some comics that I've noticed from my website, The Market, that have surprised me this week:

Amazing Spider-Man #430 still hot at around $15-$20+
Kick-*spoon* #1 is heating back up.
Uncanny X-Force #4. wtf? This book is hotter than the first few issues. I'm not sure why.
X-O Manowar #1 (1992) early Valiant's are still on the rise.
Batman: The Killing Joke is suddenly doing well.
Star Trek & Dr. Who #1 covers are doing extremely well in the $10+ realm.
Captain America #14 is 1st appearance of Winter Solider
Harbinger #1 is again representing Valiant's rebirth.
Solar #10 touted by some to be the start of all the variants in the 90's
Chew #1 2nd print is getting somewhere in the $60 range! Shocked

Something 'major' happened in it. I don't really see the big deal but that's why it's expensive.

Wow. I can't believe ASM #430 is going for so much. I picked up #430 and #431 both NM up at my LCS and only paid $5 apiece.

From what others are telling me, this book is fueled by distribution issues. Apparently there was some problems getting #4 out to all the right places making it feel (notice I didn't say was) as scarce. Also, 1st appearance of kid Apocalypse but I don't think that matters much at the moment.

I may jump on the vengeance of bane. I've heard some mixed reviews though. What do you guys think? Has anyone read the 2 that are out now?

I recall the first issue being pretty decent. Of course I read that back in the 90's so who knows how well it reads compared to the stuff out now. I never did read the Redemption of Bane so I'm unable to comment on that particular issue. Maybe you can find a trade paper back book at a book store somewhere on the cheap.

I redid the core engine to the Market to effectively filter out variants and pull better results. I also added a link at the top for video games as per a forum members suggestion. Click on the image of the SNES.

Peter Panzerfaust #1
Adventure Time: Marceline And The Scream Queens #1
Harbinger #1

I like that you can turn variants on and off. very nice. Any chance you could do the same with single issues/multple issues and sets?

Nightwing #4 is weird. There were 51k sold, not exactly rare in today's world of comics. People put "scarce" on it and it raises the price automatically?

No idea why this book is getting the price it does. I have tried a few LCS looking for back issues and #4 always seems to be missing so I suppose it's not secret that it does well on eBay. I just have no clue as to why people are willing to pay more for that copy than say, issue #5.

I spent most of last week tweaking The Market's engine to get a little bit better results. I feel like the work has paid off and in the process I changed the UI just slightly so that it's much more intuitive. Here's what I found that is heating up this week on FeeBay:

Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe #1 - $15+
Chew #1 2nd print - $20+
Amazing Spider-Man #678 1:50 variant - $300+
Multiple Warheads #1 - $40+

nice site whetteon....

any chance you can search by UK only and have a bit of a £ sterling functionality...?
Posted: October 4, 2012 10:25:10 am
I had attempted to add a UK search in the past but was thwarted with difficulties due to difference between the US site and the UK eBay sites. The two sites are different enough for me to have to make a separate site for UK searches. If more UK fans ask me, I'll bump the priority higher on my 'to do' list Think

Thanks for your feedback Paul. I really appreciate it. Very Happy

I'm surprised to see that Poyo #1 isn't doing as well as well at Chew #8. I would of thought that the good vibes from Chew would rub off somewhat on the Poyo series. Perhaps the print run was too high. Think

Oh...and I will tell you a weird comic heating up are the Gen 13 #1 variant covers from the 1st series. A complete set just sold for $150. Just the Janet Jackson cover is selling for $35+ with several $60+ BIN.

It makes no sense, unless it is because of J. Scott Campbell...

Hawkeye #2
Batman #12 Black And White Variant
Uncanny Avengers #1 1:200 Sketch Variant

Posted: November 2, 2012 11:42:20 am
Apparently Black Panther #23 is hitting the $15+ arena pretty solidly. So it was a book that came under the radar and may be something people are unaware.

Hawkeye #1 and #2 are still going for $15+ too. I haven't read the storyline but maybe his character is more relevant since the Avengers movie and a good story is making people take notice? hm

A copy of Cursed Pirate Girl #1 has gotten up to $52 and bare mentioning because I almost thought interest for the series was dead. But maybe not in the aftermarket?

And the big winner pooping all over the Lyria - Modern Comics Heating Up market website is still Thief of Thieves #1. This book has been about as huge as Walking Dead #1 and I might have to start filtering it out soon. d'oh!

Hawkeye is one of the best books coming out right now. It's not just another Avenger story. It's a street-level Clint Barton story.

kicking myself for not getting the What if Venom Possessed Deadpool when Mycomicshop had it for $3 awhile back - i wasn't familiar with their S&H policy and i chose to pick up the ever elusive X-Calibre #1-4 instead Brick wall

It's Wednesday (or New Comic Book Day)

So here is what is currently hot on eBay. This list will probably changed dramatically in the next couple of hours as the lunch crew race to their LCS and carefully unwrap their newest variants with a sadist grin knowing that they and only they can flip said book for multiple $$ on eBay within minutes!

Venom #1 Gold Variant
Thief of Thieves #1
Batman #13 Variant
Batman #1 Variant
X-O Manowar #1 Gold Variant
Iron Man #1 1:150 Variant
All New X-Men #1 1:100 Variant
Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1
Amazing Spider-Man #583
Detective Comics #1
Deadpool #1 1:50 Variant
Saga #1
Amazing Spider-Man #431
Adventure Time: Marceline Scream Queen #4 1:20 Variant
Batgirl #13

So is it just me or does Batman rock the house in terms of successful new series relaunch and eBay value? Think

Don't beat yourself up to much. I saw the book, thought about buying it and instead thought it over for a couple of days to the point that it was sold out when I finally decided to buy it. Brick wall

I found some modern comics heating up that I think are still slightly under the radar.

Batman #6 - $12.50
Hawkeye #1 -$12.49
Nightwing #1 - $13.49
The Summer of Valiant 2012 - $17.14
Uncanny X-Men #350 - $10.50
Mondo #1 - $15.50

This list brought to you by The Lyria Comic Exchange! Check it out. Very Happy

Things are getting a little stale this week. I blame the holidays and the collectors unwillingness to spend on themselves but instead on other people. Sick

I figured Id finally register instead of lurk. This board is too slow. Ill help speed things along.

Colder #1 has risen a bit in value.
Saga #2 has seen a bump. Saga #3 probably will go up soon.
Batman #1(new 52)4th prints are on the rise for some reason.
I cant say my little pony is rising in value but i can say its hot right now. I think there are just too many people selling them right now for a rise in value. Its much too early, like 6-12 months too early. Anyways the Larrys jetpack is the hot one right now, along with the micro and the sparkly cover

Oh and unconfirmed rumours of Happy moving from mini series to full has me selling more happy comics.

I predict think tank #1 will start to rise. If I remember correctly it was 4500 or 6k print run. People are starting to finally realize that this comic is just as good as any of the hot ones like saga, manhattan projects etc.

How about comic sets that are heating up? Apparently this time of year people are selling complete sets of comics and those seem to be trending higher than individual issues. Here are some examples:

Thief of Thieves #1-5 @ $75
Manhattan Projects #1-3 @ $68
Hawkeye #1-5 @ $51
Nightwing #1-12 @ $50
Justice League #0-14 @ $32

It's really strange but there you have it. More Examples Here.

Have you seen a seasonal attitude towards buying on eBay? As in, now is slow, but other times such as ____ things pick up? I'm curious if there's any kind of discernible buying pattern that the comic buying public has.
Posted: December 20, 2012 5:52:36 pm
I have noticed that the number of books being listed on eBay has just about doubled since August. So yes, winter seems to be a time when more people post books on feeBay. Especially in the last two months. As for prices, I haven't found the correlation yet but I'm still looking. Dancing
Posted: December 21, 2012 2:05:35 pm
btw, i checked out Lyria's most watched modern age list for non-variant, non CGC books and I noticed that one of my listings (http://www.ebay.com/itm/261143876972?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649) wasn't captured even though it should've ranked tied for 19th.

The listings are a strange beast. I'm using eBay's api so I have to do some unfortunate filtering. One thing I automatically exclude is Walking Dead because otherwise they poop all over my list. LOL. The second is keyword searching. I have to find either the word "comic" or "NM" in the title. I don't like doing that but if I don't eBay's api calls break down completely and became utterly useless. So I apologize as some legit books never make it to the list.

It slows down right around xmas weekend. I guess people blow all their money on presents. It usually picks up the day after xmas when people get gift cards and cash.

No worries - just wanted to understand some of the underpinnings of the system. If it wasn't for Lyria, I never would've known that Brave & Bold #33, which I picked up for less than $1 as part of a lot, was actually worth money. I wasn't going to include it in a mixed lot, but held onto it and I just sold it for $16. Plus, my Revivals went for $36 - considering I bought them at cover, I'm quite happy with that.

Looks like Avenging Spiderman #15.1 is heading for the Hot List. Epilogue to ASM #700, prelude to Superior #1, and, apparently, grossly under ordered.

I believe the character will continue to get more and more popular although now that the Uncanny X-Force series has come to a close I have to wonder where he'll show up next. So don't sell just yet in my opinion.

I haven't found out if Daredevil 21 or Avenging Spider-Man #15.1 will be THE key superior Spider-Man issue just yet. From what I hear Daredevil 21 was tweeted by Slott to be the first appearance but it was a shadow appearance and fans are sometimes fickeled on which books they get behind. Look at Hulk #180 and #181 as an example.

As of this post, both books are selling on eBay for roughly the same amount of $$. Between $12 and $19.

I have tons of stories about selling too soon as well. However, if you sell and make a profit, no matter how high the book rises in the future, just remember that you made your money back. For every book that we successfully flip there are three more that we eat the loss on.

I'd sale the Daredevil 21 now. Just my two cents

Really should have bought more Saga 1... what an amazing book. I will never part with my copy, no matter how high it gets
Posted: January 7, 2013 4:44:36 pm
Here's some comics that are $10 or more and at least 2 bidders involved although I can figure out why for a couple:

Peter Panzerfaust #2 appears to be a $25-ish comic at the moment.
Daredevil #21 is still super hot!
Batgirl #13 is still going strong
Amazing Spider-Man #25 vol 2 gem cover is getting $10. I'm not sure why however.

So I have updated the website and now you are able to view other trending things. Should be a menu near the logo to let you switch between comics, cards, coins, video games and magic the gathering. Let me know what you all think!

That issue of Spider-man has two covers but I'm pretty sure that auction is for the easier of the two to find. I'm pretty sure the non foil is the tougher of the teo but I could be wrong. Maybe the bidders are confused as to which one they are bidding on. Meh, to each his own. It only takes two bidders who want something to jack up the price

Busy week of comics selling really well on eBay. So this is all moderns in no particular order:

Star Wars #1 2013 DH (@ $50)
Amazing Spider-Man #606 (@ $30 now)
Revival #1 Sketch Variants (@ $71+)
Revival #1 1:10 Variant (@ $26)
DC 52 Batman #1 (@ $20)
Superior Spider-Man London Variant (@ $35)
All New X-Men Variant (@ $26)
1998 Spawn #1 Black Cover Variant (@ $187)
Peter Panzerfaust #1 (@ $100+ SurprisedhnoezSmile
Bedlam #1 NYCC Variant (@ $61)
Amazing Spider-Man #583 Obama variant (@ $43)
Futurama Internation Comic Con Variant (@ $42)

Not to mention Superior Spider-Man's variants and Amazing Spider-Man #700 variants and Saga #1's

The Bedlam #1 NYCC variant is mind boggliing. When you consider that it wa solicited in Previews after it was released at the show. You sure that's not the sketch, CGC, or maybe signed copies, $61.00 seems high?

Nope.....it was a bidding auction. 20 bids overall. I think someone overpaid IMO.

I don't think they did overpay because I'm seeing movement on the Amazing Spider-Man #607 now and it's in the $15+ range as well with a few days left on the auction. I think these books are moving towards legitimate keys since they always seem to be some sort of demand.

Agreed. Most are closing in the $10 - $15 range. The copy signed by J. Scott Campbell closed at $29.99.

It has to due with hacking the eBay api. Unfortunately you need to see the words 'NM' or 'Comic' in the title in order for the api to pick it up because of the way eBay requires you to use their service. It sucks but at least in this way we get 90% or all the comics heating up out there. The other 10% we have to discover ourselves like you just did. Nice pick up oni424! Applause It's up to $45 with 5 hours left. Shocked

Yeah it is going for 4x what I was expecting. It is listed as non-nm and has pictures of the flaws. I recently sold a second print of Batman Harley Quinn One shot that had it listed as both 2nd print and with a picture of the inside of the cover showing it was a second print. Needless to say it went for $41. Happy it went so high worried that the buyer paid no attention to the pictures or what the ad said.

And closed at $67.00 for a non-nm copy. I know it is going to blow back on me as they probably didn't bother to read the ad nor look at the pictures. Needless to say I hope my first print of number 3 does nearly as well as my non-nm numer one did

It seems like Spider-man back issues are hotter than usual on ebay.. I bought 300 about 2 months ago for $91. Now, comics in similar condition are going for about 140-150
Posted: February 1, 2013 8:59:55 am
I noticed this too but I thought maybe it was just me. I recalled a 300 CGC 9.2 going for just under $100 and the other day I was noticing a copy selling for $150ish. This book really seems to wane and wax.

I just checked GPA and their results seems to indicate that this trend has been going on for the entire last year on a very slow upwards incline. Makes me think this pattern may be a bit more permanent this time.

One sell does not a comic market make.. Or something like that. Anyways, just because one went that high doesn't mean they will all go that high. It could be someone bidding up there own book or it could be a bidding war or whatever. We need to look at all the future books being sold and if they stay in that range we can only than give it a thumbs up. Shhh

Todd #1 here in the UK, some sellers are asking for the equivalent of $25 dollars for it already.

It's looking like it may stay that way as well for the time being, unless people lose interest.

Bedlam is far from dead. What happened with bedlam is that people hoarded copies of #1 and now its taking 6 months to run through the supply in the secondary market. If you went on amazon for example, its cheaper to buy #1 than it is to buy #3

Happy on the other hand was a mini

The only new books that I have to report and add to this tread are:

Peter Panzerfaust #9 - $14+ didn't this just come out yesterday?
Amazing Spider-Man #606 Sketch - $15+
Iron Man #282 - $20+ because it's the 1st war machine.
Invincible #11 - $20+ I have no clue on this one.
Revival #1 - $22+
Detective Comics #1 - $22+
NYX #3 - $30+ because she is still the best at what she does.

And a ton of Saga, PP, Amazing Spider-Man #700 variants, ToT, MtM and Hawkeye.

Here's the list so you can see for yourself

Might grab you a couple of copies of DHP #11 while you are at it (1st app). Wish I had a place around here to look for things like that. We need a sigh smiley.

Funny thing is, I wasn't looking for it. The shipment was late at my LCS and I was standing there waiting and looking at the back issues wall. Saw it, thought it looked interesting enough and looked it up online. Shocked Saw what it was going for and saw there were 3 up on the wall and decided to pick them up. Dumb luck. Very Happy

Best deals usually happen something like that.
->The next time I'm in a job interview and they ask if I have any questions, my first one will be "so, how many comic shops do y'all have in town".

I just made a major Sixth Gun score. Got issues 1-6 in a set ranging from f-vf/nm for $10. The store had no idea what he had. When I told him he didn't seem to care. It's amazing how some stores stay in business. Look for the on eBay tonight and lyria's list this week. Starting #1 for a penny.

Interesting thing about that Black Beetle #0 is it is creeping up above what it would cost to get the original print of the story in DHP #11, 12, & 13. The comic is essentially a second print. Think

Apparently the market perceives that the book as necessary in order to own the set . Than again, maybe the fact that Dark Horse Presents #11 is a $25+ book is influencing their decisions as well. Think

I wonder why the frenzy for Sex #1. I expected it to be a hot title but I didn't get the sense it was under ordered. Speculators hoarding?? Sounds to me like people are willing to pay a little above cover hoping it will be the next Panzerfaust #1 but I'm not overly confident. Think

Its a #1 image ongoing title. It has sex in the title, its heavily speculated on because of both. The variant has a great cover as well. It was solicted heavily at the show.

I dont agree that it was not under ordered. Most people thought it would suck because it was just a gimmick. They may still be right.

Give it a week or 2 and we will really see where it stands. Usually when a book heats up fast it cools just as fast. I actually think helheim will be the solid winner this week

Think Tank just became ongoing. The print run for #1 was around 7500 i think and the bagus variant is 500 or 650 cant remember. Now is a great time to go find them at your LCS if you havent already. Also they are still selling military dossier and think tank #5 vanity edition on midtown.

Both are now out of stock. Quit frankly it's alarming how fast these books are selling out and being flipped on eBay. Remember last year when people would read a book and than comment on it's start power? Shocked

Wow Injustice is a bit if a surprise since the completed sales are showing it not selling or going for cover. It was said to be a really good book with a great Harley Quinn Green Arrow exchange. Definitely one to watch.

Well I take that back a copy of 1 and 2 just closed for $31. Off to my LCD before word gets out.

Books heating up. And by that I mean have 1 or more bids, are at least $10+ and are in NM condition in the Modern Age section on eBay. These are not the final prices but just a snapshot of a few books outperforming others. I try to report on books that are less known but you are always free to visit the website here to check it out for yourself.

Batman Adventures #12 - $61 & 3 bids.
Sex #1 Emerald City Comic Con Variant - $51+ & 9 bids.
Sixth Gun FCBD #1 - $42 & 8 bids.
Malibu Sun #13 - $31 & 12 bids.
Magnus #0 Mail-In - $30 & 2 bids.
Peter Panzerfaust #9 - $21 & 10 bids.
Superman #75 sealed - $16+ & 8 bids.
Amazing Spider-Man #606 - $15+ & 9 bids.
Amazing Spider-Man #607 - $11.50 & 4 bids
Witchblade #1 - $10.50 and 3 bids. (1995 is modern right?)

The modern age market is crazy right now.

My lcs didn't order Sex so I jumped the gun and paid $10 on Ebay. Then like four days later I was able to get one from Midtown for cover Brick wall. Maybe it'll come around after it's been going for a few months...

Red Hood & the Outlaws #18 is already out of stock at Midtown for next week. Most all the Batman titles and family have sold out right away here in Utah on Wednesdays.

Same thing about the Batman titles here in MO. What's so important about Red Hood & the Outlaws #18?
Posted: March 15, 2013 12:51:14 pm
Red Hood was Joker's only casualty in the "Death Of The Family" storyline in the Bat books. This happened in Red Hood And The Outlaws #17 - Death Of The Family Aftermath. He was injured or badly scarred, and the extent of this injury won't be known until issue 18.

Dark Horse has been putting out some good ones lately. New #1 (of 5) is Five Ghosts Haunting Of Fabian Gray #1. I know nothing about the title, just wanted to alert you guys. It's a little "pulp, detection, supernatural" so I'm wondering if the Black Beetle crowd will dig it.

I think Helheim is going to be a good book. The Batman Inc 8 needs to be flipped immediately because it has a limited shelf life.

It would appear that many unique printings are starting to trend up this week. I'm not sure if that's because people love the covers or because the 1st prints are so damn expensive? Maybe a little bit of both. But an interesting trend nonetheless.

Batman Incorporated #8 @ $10
Peter Panzerfaust #1 2nd printing @ $10
DC Injustice #1 @ $10+
Amazing Spider-Man #700 @ $11+
The Damned Prodigal Sons #1 @ 15+
Nightwing #1 @ 15+
Batman #1 4th printing @ $16+
Chew #2 2nd printing @ $17+
Thief of Thieves #1 @ $20+
Free Comic Book Day Sixth Gun @ $21+
Star Wars #1 @ $56+

That Spider-man #700 auction seems a little low considering it is both #700 and DD #21. Course, we'll see where it closses later today. Look for Spider-Man #700 to get a little life this week as the 3rd print hits shelves on Wednesday. I really like this cover so I'll be picking up a couple myself. Very Happy

I didn't realize that particular comic had two books being auctioned off. That's my bad for not having caught that.

I like the 3rd print but I think the 2nd print will be the better of the two. Just my opinion however. They are both pretty darn cool. Applause

The Damned Prodigal Son is a Cullen Bumn book and has been picking up steam off the Sixth Gunn bump. I will be damned if I can find any copies of this. I go to about 8 shops a week and no one has it.

Remember how the Angela mini series was worth about $30 an issue for over a decade, now that she's hot again, going to be bigger than ever soon and the mini series is worthless

I'm guessing this will be a very weak showing and the book price will drop. But if she strikes a cord among fans, who knows. The mini-series was actually a little more rare than the Spawn #9 issue so if anything, Angela #1 might be the better book. Think

A few weeks back was when it just came out of nowhere and everyone was rushing to pick up a copy. The book has sense cooled a little.

Ridley Scott is supposedly interested, which may be generating some of the interest, maybe along with a 7.5k print run. Oh yeah, and it's a pretty good story to boot, even if the art isn't up everyone's alley.

The ebay auctions I'm watching are still going for $40-$60. I may jump if it gets down to #10. Otherwise I'll have to settle for a reprint or cough up the extra for a tpb when it comes out.

On a different note, I wonder if the Saga mojo is what's driving Y: The Last Man #1 so high. The $20 I spent on it is looking like a good investment. Except I'm never going to sell it.

I went to my LCS last night for supplies and they were setting up today's books. They had a LOT of EoW. A LOT. As in "order a LOT and get the incentive covers" a lot. I am staying away, but I'm thinking some of those Requiem tie-ins are underordered(they did not have a lot of those at all) and the Age of Ultron ties-ins were way underordered as well. Let's see how it shakes out later...

I sold a NM set of Morning Glories 1-23 for $199. I've been building a duplicate set since the beginning just to do this and finally figured I'd put a really high Buy It Now and just go fishing. I think in a day or two it sold, I couldn't believe it.

We'll see how high this set goes but maybe it mattered that mine was pretty high NM for each issue.

I'm a little shocked myself because no one really talks about Morning Glories nor do they discuss the series really on any forum but here it is... selling quite well. Just blew me away. Think

I think it's because it's such a slow burn mystery and it more relies on TPB releases to get interest. They're only going to pick up new readers on those first issues after the ones released in TPB format. So I'm not sure but I'd bet the interest in this series goes up and down based on that.

I'm a big fan of Morning Glories! I have built up the whole run so far except issue 8, which I'll pick up as soon as I see it somewhere, but have been thinking about trying to build a second whole run as well.

Who saw this coming?? There are NO COPIES OF ANNIHILATION:CONQUEST 5 OR 6, GUARDIANS 1,2,3,7,23,24,25, THANOS IMPERATIVE 1-6 + 1 SHOTS, NOVA 36, ANNIHILATION 2,5, 6 IN ANY STORES WITHIN 75 MILES OF ME. NONE WHATSOEVER. I guess people are starting to realize that they were great stories, and that Thanos is indeed the greatest villain ever. Abnett and Lanning created such an amazing cosmic world for these characters to live in, and when these books were coming out they had very low print runs. If you are looking for these books, I think it's safe to say that you missed the boat on those dollar-box bargains. Just get the trades(if you can find them!!)

Based on what I have been told, as well as my impeccable comic book database of sales stuff(in my head), these books were basically printed-to-order. There were not a lot of overprinted marvel books at the time, not counting X-books and Avengers. The Dan Abnett/Cosmic stuff(including War of Kings, Realm of Kings, etc.) was really aimed at a certain audience, and performed well within that target group. And I think we are about to see a perfect storm in the next year or so- with all of the Marvel superhero stuff coming out, and these heroes trying to save the earth over and over(which a LOT of readers are already tired of), combined with the buzz around the GoG new comic and the movie next year, AND the release and rediscovery of Thanos in Thanos Rising,(and throw in Age of Ultron, just for the cosmic hell of it), I fully expect to see the Guardians become the "New X-Men" of the 2010's. (And with the amount of GoG, Thanos, and Annihilation stuff I have been sitting on, I have my fingers crossed!)

Oh and for the Lurkers on here, Avengers 12.1 is not sitting in dollar boxes anymore either. The 0 issue of "Age of Ultron" was everywhere a few weeks ago until people caught on, and now it has dried up on Amazon and eBay(it was going for $1.50 on amazon a few days ago, now it's $5-$15). It's not too late to grab them up, fellas...happy hunting.

Im curious how many people actually buy blank variants for the purpose of getting art on them vs how many blanks they think they can sell for a pretty penny. My guess would be less than 5% of collectors for whatever book, not just WD, would actually get a sketch or something done on a blank variant.

I bought blank covers of Uncanny Avengers #1, Wolverine & the X-Men, and Uncanny X-Men with the intent of getting sketches done of my kids as superheroes. Got one done by Filip Andrade on the Uncanny X-Men issue at NY comic-con last year and it's great. And in terms of value, it's priceless.

Im reading about the blank and it looks like it wasnt even solicited. I mean for a shop to know about it, they would have had to be active instead of just auto ordering walking dead like normal. It was not solicited in previews

Posted: April 22, 2013 6:16:41 am
Rachel Rising? If you got em then sell em now. This is when you going to make money. Into the future i do not see it holding value. That is because i am speculating that the TV show won't last long. Too much hype on these shows as if they all are the next Walking Dead but i think most are just going to flop. The bubble does have to burst some time.
Posted: April 22, 2013 7:45:41 am
There's still a long time before the TV show though. It could take as long as a year before we even see anything, so the speculation could build, or at least maintain, for that long. Similar to Thief of Thieves ....the book has been lackluster but just because it's Kirkman and is optioned for TV it's ridiculous. Still no clue when a show will actually air so Rachel may be similar.

There is no way prices stay as strong as they are now. Thief of Thieves is an exception only because it has walking dead behind it. Rachel rising is only being driven by speculation and nothing more.

Not saying its not a good read, everyone i have heard from says it is but that hasn't helped the value up until this point.

The chances of any of the recent announcements for these titles to become actual shows are slim to none. How many books/stories or just screenwrites acutally become a show? How many pilots actually become a show? How many shows get cancelled halfway through the first season? I think the odds are better at the local casino of any of these stories doing what walking dead has done.

well said , totally agree , someones going to be pissed paying $100 for a comic book that devalues to $3 after an announcement that the tv show fell through or died early on

Of course with that being said I have no intention of selling my last copy of Saga #1 regardless of how high or low it gets. Collector before speculator.

Chew's show deal fell through bit prices have remained untouched. Some quality books get deals and drive the prices up. Some less quality books have dropped off. I have been lucky to get large lots of Sixth Gun numerous times and a large lot of Rachel Risig which I sold at hefty profits.

I also have complete runs of both books in my personal collection which will not get sold.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned in this thread but Thor #344 and #345 are going for a decent amount now. #344 is the 1st appearance of Malekith.

That news JUST came out though, didn't it? Plus the news was just that it isn't happening on Showtime. I think people who spent money investing will wait a little bit to see if it comes out on a new channel. They're not going to ditch their investment yet unless it's shown that copies are selling for less. Then it will be a mad rush to unload Smile

I always thought Chew would be a big risk for a TV show, especially with live people. It's such a strange concept that I think you'd probably just get a cult following, and Showtime is quick to cancel shows .... Dead Like Me was a fantastic show ended way before its time.

Amazing Spider-Man 700 is #16. How interesting. Think

I have reworked the core Lyria Exchange engine to get a much deeper pull and even better results. This was just released last night at midnight. I point that out to say there is still a little more tweaking that needs to be done. But even with those tweaks I am finding a much richer listing of books that are trending up. So without further ado -

These books represent a moment in time and not the final price.

Baby's first Deadpool book #1 @ $16 & 6 bids.
Nightwing #4 @ $16+ & 2 bids.
Harley Quinn #1 @ $17+ & 7 bids.
Revival #9 CBLDF @ $18+ & 19 bids.
Hoax Hunters #0 @ $18+ & 3 bids.
Sixth Gun #1 FCBD @ $21+ & 3 bids.

And that's just pulled from #80 - 100 in a list of 100. Seriously, check it out here!

Something seems up with my PP 9/10 auction as I have 6 watchers and prices seem to have risen significantly for issue 9 when I search on Ebay.

The Strain is heating up since the rumors of a show on FX. I was able to pick issue 1 & 2 in a 1/2 off bin awhile back.
Posted: May 8, 2013 12:31:31 pm
Yeah both the strain and hoax hunters picked up after their movie/tv deal. And sales have been brisk. I have sold 6 copies of strain 1 to a guy in Hawaii for 10-15 each.

Heads up on Rachael Rising #1 3rd print. I'm not totally sure I believe this book is the more desired of the three printings but I do see a handful of different auctions on the Lyria Exchange website when sorting by Comics To Watch for this book in particular. Maybe since it has a lower print run it's the more desired, I don't know for sure. Think

Anywho - Rachael Rising #1 3rd Print @ $29 & 6 bids.

And more hot trending comics here like always! (shameless plug Embarassed)

It's insane but the 3rd print is the most desirable due to the print run of 1000 copies. Terry Moore tweeted it out and the prices skyrocketed. Of course he tweeted it out the day after my auction for the third print closed.

I don't understand the use of a 3rd print if it's only 1000 copies...

I'm really surprised that with the first Disney?Marvel animated movie coming out and the trailer now out that Big Hero 6 hasn't jumped in value. It wasn't a hit so there aren't tons out there, and it basically seems still worth cover value.
I cartoon Disney movie with Marvel heroes, how could that not be a hit and make many of those unheard of people well known?

I think when the Big Hero 6 animated movie was announced a few years ago there was a price spike but the interst had faded.

I get mine in the mail tomorrow, so I cant vouch for anythin that happens or how good it is, but i think I can safely say theres no reason for it to be at 20 right now. Yeah, I thought so too but maybe the writer has a fan following or the comic is just highly anticipated... I never know these things. I just report on secondary market trends. Wink

The vampires book is my friend Kevin who owned Empyrean Comics. He still has subscriptions for people and sells mostly Zenescope books online. He has a great following. With that being said no other auctions for this book have come close to this price.

Now just have to see if this was a fluke or a trend starting. I have a line on about 20 copies if it is a trend.

Last of Us is a 4-part mini-series precursor to the video game. The second issue in the mini-series came out last week. IGN reviewed the Sony Playstation 3 exclusive game giving it a perfect rating of 10 Masterpiece. Will be released on June 14 and will probably be one of the hottest games this summer.

I posted in the "going to be hot" thread about the Halo comic Dark Horse has coming out. Look for that one to be hot as well.

But we have to wait for news from the conventions to trickle out (Think Tank Movie most likely being reported at Image Expo, c2e2 or Sdcc). Wait to see what the next book to move into the hot seller catagory

Agree 100% It's been getting a little stale with a couple of surprises here and there. Ah.. where are the days of March when each week brought forth a whole new list of "Hot" comics to buy at your LCS? Hehe.

I said it a few months ago... The Last of Us(Dark Horse) is taking off with the release of the game. #1 was second printed, but 2 is a tough one to find. And 3(out this week) seems to have completely dried up, just a couple of days after it's release.

I have sold 2 #1's prematurely I think and have several copies of #2 and 3. Haven't seen #3 going for a premium yet but #2 is a solid $15+ book. Happy for some sales but not like the past months.

Things have slowed down a little, but i directly attribute this to :$ spent on vacations and drinking and parties(summertime!!) and air conditioning bills. Still seeing brisk sales on Batman (New 52), actually, a lot of the early 52 stuff still going strong, and 1st prints of some of the early NOW stuff(especially Thor 3&4, All New X-Men 4,a nd random others). Lots of indy stuff still doing well(Polarity, Walking Dead, 12 Reasons, East of West 1st and variants) but nothing BIG(other than Last of Us, that game thing blew the roof off of this one...) hitting for the last few weeks, nor until the fall arrives...

And some random good sales- ANY Harley Quinn appearance(ANY at all-New 52 or old DC), all of the Marvel Cosmic stuff(especially the Abnett/Lanning era) and, of course, Rachel Rising is still being gobbled up. Oh and Hoax Hunters is still going strong.
Posted: June 28, 2013 5:47:26 am
Yeah but the problem is I have sold through all my Rachel Rising, Hoax Hunters etc. Not much of that stuff left in the shops. I will Check out Thor 3&4 and all New XMen though

Dark Horse is hitting the "Gamer" comics pretty hard this summer, Last of Us, Akaneiro, and next, Halo: Initiation. That said, look for Halo to have some pop in the secondary market too. Even Akaneiro has some potential if the game gets popular. American McGee, the games creator, managed to raise $200K in is Kickstarter campaign for the game. Early reviews for the game at Steam have not been kind. It is still in development and free to play online from Spicy Horse Games. Time will tell. Halo, on the other hand, is a proven and extremely popular franchise and should be a pretty hot comic as well.

Superman Unchained Sketch #1 @ $91 & 14 bids.
Star Wars #3 Sketch Variant @ $82 & 9 bids.
Y: The Last Man #1 @ $54 & 4 bids.

Kurtlove666 is right. It has slowed down this summer to a crawl. Still plenty of good deals out there but you have to really dig to find them as oppose to a few months ago when it seemed like every new Image title was $10+ as soon as it hit the stands.

Sandman #25. 1st Dead Boy Detectives. Was a $2 book a couple of weeks ago, but they are drying up quickly and resurfacing in the $18-$24 range. New series from Vertigo looks very promising. And, as I expected, The Wake...I know they are still out there at cover price(but disappearing fast), but I have seen stores in NYC asking $10-$20 for the 1st print standard cover. And Last of Us is THE hottest book around right now- pre-sales on full sets are going for $100+, and ANY issue I list on Amazon sells within about 2 hours.

I took a little break this summer but found this today while searching The Last of Us:

Dark Horse pulled Last of Us American Dreams reprints.
Looks like for the time being the copies of Last of Us American Dreams will be all there are. Dark Horse has apparently pulled the second printing solicitation for the sold out #2&3 as well as a third printing of #1. This has been the hottest book of the second half of the year so far and appears to be getting hotter.

Anybody heard what's going on with this?

Heard from 2 store owners in NY today that there will be no more reprints and we can order the trade, which comes out in October...I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad I grabbed up every copy of this book I could find, because man...they are selling faster than Cronuts!!!

http://comicsheatingup.wordpress.com/2013/07/11/dark-horse-pulled-last-of-us-american-dreams-reprints/

This is the one you are referencing. Yes, they pulled the solicites for the reprints and seem to have elected to go with getting the Tpb out quicker as opposed to continue to reprint the single issues. The tpb market is a huge money maker for publishers and Dark Horse seems to be steering the potential buyers this way. The single issues are sold out including the second printing if issue 1. I have some copies of the reprint of 1 and some copies of 3 left but am sold out of #2. They all sell almost as soon as I list them.

I own Todd #1 that has some sort of print defect on the front cover. I got wind of the television news Friday night so I purchased another #1 as a upgrade. I'm getting nervous though because it's got no tracking number or showing as shipped. Fingers crossed the seller will fullfill their end of the sale. Prices are already spiking on eBay and will probably go even crazier tomorrow.

It's all part of that 1990's revival. The variant covers (the UFO cover and the Hastings cover) are doing well on the secondary market.

This thread is funny......

It reminds me of the message boards on some stock trading sites where you have a few who try to talk up a stock (comic) because they have either bought the stock (comic) and want the value to go up or they are trying to sell the stock (comic) and hope that all the hype will drive people to the transaction. The most HILARIOUS part about it all is that these people are usually talking about penny stocks (comics).

One - I've already told everyone how their comics are "worth less" here:
http://comicbookrealm.com/manbat/blog/831&pt=Let's%20Face%20It.%20%20You're%20Collection%20is%20Worth%20Less!

Two - and, I've already told you about how to invest in comics here:
http://comicbookrealm.com/manbat/blog/849&pt=Investing%20in%20Comics?%20%20Whatever.....

Still...this thread is humorous.....Dancing

That's great advise that you have on your blog but what most of us concentrate on here are books for flipping. I collect comics I like and do invest in gold and silver age books. What I concentrate on here is flipping comics only. I would be happy to share my balance sheet with you for the year to show you how much profit I have made, as a second jncome and a part time job, in flipping comics. Not only has it provided an extra income for my family but from when I started doing all this a few years back, I no longer pay for my weekly comics or the comics I actually invest in out of pocket. My profits off The Sixth Gun alone account for about 2 grand. Being ahead of the curve on Rachel Rising have resulted in close to $1000 in profits. It's been a good year for some of us even if you feel this is silly.

Didn't say it was "silly" - just said the thread was funny. But, it does lead me to a question....

If you are doing so well flipping the books, then why haven't you made a lot more? I mean why only $2K on The Sixth Gun and not $4K - meaning, why didn't you buy twice as many books initially?
I'm not saying....I'm just saying...
Posted: August 6, 2013 2:01:35 pm
That's a good question. The main reason is I start to let out the books as the are becoming hot. A sold about six complete sets of The Sixth gun over the course of its heating up. So of the six copies of number 1 I sold I got between $80 and $200 dollars a piece. Number 2-10 sold well for me alsoOnce I sold through those I located 2 more number 1s that were not mint. They sold at the height for $99 each. I was selling the later issues 20-28 for 9.99 a piece as soon as I would list them. So why didn't I make 4k instead of 2k? Supply, the print runs on the books were around 3k an issue there were only so many copies I could find. The books were my best sellers in January through May and then the market also turned, a second reason I didn't make 4k. But considering I bought many of the books out of a dollar bin 1-25 when the book was heating up, and never having paid more than cover price, I would say my initial investment had a very nice return. Also remember you only make a profit when you sell. Holding books do not make a profit.

I guess the easiest answer for your question is I bought what I could find? Same reason I didn't buy more key Spider-Man books when they were cheap. I am currently selling the heck out of day men at $24.99 a piece and Burn The orphanage variants at $15.99 a piece. I got as many copies of each that I could but with print runs being allocated between all of the shops in the US and world wide, you can only buy so many.

I agree with your points Manbat, this may not be something I retire on but what about my children or grandchildren? Cant say I'm into it for the flipping but I do like the cool factor of owning comics that were printed before I was born or the time I will have to invest to learn to grade properly. I guess for me buying a comic is easier then buying real estate . . . and a whole lot cheaper.

Not raining on people's parade. If you go back to my original post I simply said this thread reminds me of stock threads. A lot of times in those threads, people will buy a bunch of penny stocks and then post threads all over the place to drive up the interest and subsequent value and then they dump it just before the stock takes a dive. My inquiry was just to understand.....if someone can make $2K why did they limit themselves there? My question was answered and I accepted it by simply not responding. Thank you for being so concerned that you had to respond. I appreciate it.

I agree that this method of investment is much like trading stock & some sensationalism* is nurtured here, but questioning limitations is a little arbitrary and I don't really see the point in asking anyone why they made $2k off a stack of stapled paper instead of $4k. I ask you, why did you limit yourself in asking why they didn't make $4k... why not ask about $8k? Wink

People are making money doing this...feel free to rain on people's parades and act like an ass elsewhere. Thanks!

Really you should reply out of common courtesy if nothing else.

i love this thread and haven't posted much in it but have made about £200 from a few books suggested on here.

Keep up the good work

Hey guys. One book I have featured on my blog this week under my picks of the week is Outliers #1. It is a very small press book that is already going for $14.95 plus shipping online. All the copies on Amazon sold last night. Also Kiss Kids is selling above cover price for 2 or 3 of the covers in sets.

I hit up 3 shops today and none of them ordered Outliers. So bummed. On the bright side, I did get a hold of 3 copies of Skyward #2.

I didn't get as many copies as I would have liked on Outliers. The store has an order coming directly from the publisher so i may have more.

Good job on the Skyward. I am sold out. Until next week at least.

Do you have any extra copies of outliers that you would be willing to part with? Sounds like a story that I would enjoy. I'll give you the same price that they are selling for on feebay.

I am into comics with a bit of a darkside to them. I don't like superheroes saving the day. I prefer to read about outcasts or horror themed comics.
Does anybody have any suggestions for me? Any new series out that I may have missed?
I really enjoy Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore.

Thanks for any input!

'Bedlam' (Image)is the first to come to mind, first issue came out last October. I haven't followed the story since the 4th or 5th issue, but I liked what I saw up until that point.

The Strain from Dark Horse is great
Westwood Witches from Amigo is also cool
Bedlam is great.

Current stuff that I am heavily invested in-
The Strain (vol1 and current)
Sheltered
Orc Stain
Burn the Orphanage
Prophet
Wild Blue Yonder
Watson and Holmes
Outliers
Day Men
X-Files Season 10(WOW!!!)
Todd
Smallville (DC)
Last of Us
Dream Thief

Most of you already know about most of this list, but there is a reason I made the list- all of these books are REALLY good comic books. Notice there are no mainstream Marvel or DC books on the list- I read a LOT of comics, and right now, in terms of comics for investing, there is NOTHING from either of the big 2 that is going to climb in value. Sorry folks, but there is just not enough demand(from my point of view) for current stuff from those guys(except for Batman 1,4,6, and Thor 3,4 and All-New X-Men 4). Even the "hot books" that just came out(Trinity/Pandora, Dexter) exist in such high quantities that they just seem to sit on the shelves of LCSs.

Honorable mention to the following as well:

Star Wars 1
Star Trek/ Doctor Who Assimilation
Polarity
12 Reasons to Die
Any Adventure Time 1(first print only)
Five Ghosts

These guys haven't sold as fast or as much as the first batch, but they have still made me a pretty penny.

Future picks? How about-

Lazarus 1( i know it looks like it was overprinted, but trust me-it's a good one)
Satellite Sam
Skyward
Bodie Troll
Sidekick(REALLY like this one, I have a lot of faith in it)

and the one I have the MOST faith in, the one I went in on and ordered high...
The Wake, by Snyder and Murphy. Not only is it a cool story, with amazing artwork, but it's created by 2 Irish guys that are a blast to hang out with and live right here in NY.

Feedback? Comments? Tips??? Share 'em!!

Hi Guys, and Gals,

It seems I made a post in the wrong section. My question is what the heck is going on with NOVA, another copy just sold for $660.00 on ebay 9.8 rating.

I have been sitting on NOVA for years. The reason I ask the question as I am not sure if I should keep the series or finally selling it? Is it going to stay this high?

I think the reason for the current high is the connection to the Marvel Stellar line (guardians) related books. I feel that it will remain high up until the release of the Guardians movie. If the movie does well there would be additional heat. If it flounders than it could drop off. There will be tapering off after the movie as well until a second movie.

I bought Bedlam #1 and wasn't impressed with it.
I also recently purchased outliers from oni424 but it hasn't come in the mail quite yet. I am excited about that comic making its way to me!
I am going to look into the other comics suggested on this thread and give a few of them a chance.
I have found that I don't really like anything out currently from DC or Marvel.

No sure about sheltered i assumed it was ongoing.

Anyone know a place to order the 3D covers that are due out this week from DC i think they are going to get crazy hot as DC has been super strict about allocations and theyve made nowhere near enough for the demand.

Think it's too late to order the DC 3D covers. Best bet is to go to your local LCS on Wednesdays and hope that they have some shelf copies.

Hello fellow comic books collectors

I have recently been selling some of my older comics from 2007 onwards and was thinking i would let you know what sold the best over here.

I had an issue of Amazing Spider-Man #601 which sold for £12.50 And also sold Batman Annual #1 New 52 for £23. Are these good prices?

Thanks

One of my local comic shops was charging 12.95 for catwwoman #23 and 12.95 for all the 3D DC covers. What kills me he did not even put them on the shelf to sell.

This is almost criminal.
Posted: September 18, 2013 1:00:20 pm
That store is a failure waiting to happen. My LCS told me that he only makes money if he sales issues so he could care less which ones are hot or not as long as they all sell for cover price at the end of the day. I think his following is only growing due to these and other policies.

You don't try to sell your hot items to your customers and marked up prices! d'oh!

I totally agree, this LCS has been in business for years, and probably has the biggest inventory in Canada, I know many peeps that would never shop there...but he still has a good business...not sure how???

But it works for him...Sad

NOthing would give more pleasure than to see him go under....but that is not happening it seems...

Just wanted to share my love for a new book that is heating up: MYTHOPOLIS #1.

I love the story and art, it left me wanting more when I finished reading. Hopefully you can find a copy at your LCS, as it is starting to get some traction on eBay - a couple of auctions have ended in the $15-20 range already. Definitely worth your consideration!

Skyward (original series) before it got picked up into its current run seems to be a hot sell right now considering the new run is now ongoing title.

Anyone grab any of these?
Posted: November 4, 2013 4:53:31 pm
I finally picked up a Batman Adventures 12 a couple weeks ago for what I thought was a good price on a solid condition book. However this morning I saw chatter on the CGC boards about this:

Image

Image

Image

There's a strong possibility this book (comic) predates the BA12 comic. As of this morning there was one auction on eBay for $18 that included two other books so I bought two on Amazon for $3.86 each. They're probably not going to be in that great of condition but this book is now sold out with the exception of a couple $100+ copies. Any thoughts about this book? It came packaged on a card with a cassette tape. I had the opportunity to get a sealed copy for $30 this morning but was being cheap and chose to buy two copies of just the book. Now everything is gone!! It'll be fun to watch this and see if anything comes about it.

I guess it boils down to if this is considered a "comic". I guess theoretically it is a comic book, but it was released as a book through bookstores and not through the direct comic market (from what I can see).

Technically BA12 is the first appearance of Harley in a Comic Book.

I think the 1993 date is just for the copyright. I saw someone else post about it being printed in '99. Still should be a really cool collectible, especially if it is with the tape or unopened.

Nevermind, apparantly it is her first appearance in print.

I recently spent the most I've ever paid on a comic (Batman Adventures 12) so I do hope the market will continue to recognize that issue as her first appearance. I'm very curious to see what happens with these books though on the secondary market.

The first appearance of Jokers Daughter, Im a little shocked that its still sitting around $10 yet the 3d cover has been selling for 5x that amount

This might be a repeat of some comics mentioned earlier but here's what I'm seeing at the moment:

Sandman Overture #1 Variant @ $42
Sandman Overture #1 Sketched Variant @ $61
Forever Evil #1 Variants @ $90 - I know this might be a little less than a few weeks back but the sheer numbers listed on the Lyria Exchange STILL getting this price is amazing really.
Superior Spider-Man #20 Variant @ $81 - Scott Campbell and the Black Cat is after market gold for whatever reason.
Nightwing #4 hits $61. Crazyness!

and finally

X-Files Season 10 #4 Variant @ $49 - why are people paying this? I dunno but I'm sure the truth is out there... somewhere.. and it might have to do with aliens.

Here is the link for even more list of trendy comics. Shhh

Does anyone see this going anywhere? Has there been any precedent with a comic vs a book before? I've seen the CGC thread and it looks like there will never be a finite answer as to which came first unless someone from each side of the industry can concretely establish the exact day the book and the comic were placed on the shelves.
-After seeing a photo of the book here, I recognized and realized I already own several from thrift store pickups intended for my nephew.

The book/tape came out in 1999 so BA #12 is her first appearance in a comic book.

I might be the only one not fully understanding but could you explain some of the numbering? For instance, under #25 Saga #1-12 you have the first two lines line:

40 Saga 1 $2.99 Image 37641 2012 3
177 Saga 1 $2.99 Image 9641 2012 4

40?
Saga 1 $2.99 Image (self explanatory)
37641 (Print run?)
2012 (Yr. of issue)
3 (month released?)

177?
Saga 1 $2.99 Image (self explanatory)
9641 (Print run?)
2012 (Yr. of issue)
4 (month released? why not put 2nd print or Second Print)

Also, you have the publisher for Cryptozoic Man as IDW. Should be Dynamite Entertainment. Sorry in advance. Not trying to be picky just looking for clarity. Good stuff though! Cool

With cryptozoic man on the rise, would it be a wise choice to sit on a few copies or just dump them now and maybe pick one up if it goes back down? Is this all just hype from the show or legitimate growth because its a good book?

Seeing how it is only a 4-book mini (right now), I would flip. I bought 2 sets of the limited covers to trade one set for some Walking Dead back issues. Much better value for me in the long run. You could pick up #1 at or less than book when it first came out. Comic Book Men has helped push the value but I don't see it holding.

cryptozoic man is not a comic I could get behind. I feel it's fame is due mainly to the show and thus will fall into obscurity once the show ends. Just my two cents.

Plus the story and art are crap.

Thanks for the input. I read it and sold it for a nice profit. Kinda reminded me of a 50s-60s horror show or something, was neat but not for me

I read it and didn't enjoy it. I like watching their show but can't get behind this book. I cannot see this book holding any value long term as already mentioned.

Looks like Black Science from Image Comics is heating up a little bit. Issue #2 seems to be much hotter than #1 selling at twice the price as #1. Also looks like several show exclusive variants of #1 will be available in the coming months.

went to Midtown and 2 other stores in NYC and they were sold out. Apparently some of the stores were shorted - print run is apparently much lower than #1

Apparently the story behind Black Science #2 is that originally cover A and B were solicited as even covers but then it was changed that you had to order 20 copies of cover A in order to qualify to order as much of cover B as you wanted. So if retailers ordered 15 and 15 of each cover they were only supplied 15 of cover A essentially shorting a lot of retailers of cover B. At least this is how my LCS described the situation to me.

all movie/TV related books have heated up considerably such as
Strain #1 - $35-40 and will go up more come June/July
Marvel Premiere #15 - $100 for a VF/NM and 47, 48 go for $50+
Avengers 181 - $30 and going up
Astonishing Tales #25 - sold mine in F - VF for $55
Infinity Gauntlet sets - $40 or so

GOTG books have been slowing down as have been Inhumans and Black Panther related books

I don't think any of the Green Arrow books have heated up because of the Arrow TV show.
Posted: February 18, 2014 10:16:21 am
No Green Arrow books have gotten hot that I know of but a lot of characters who show up in the show have seen this 1st app in the DC get hot. For example, Deathstroke in NTT #2 is smoking hot.
Posted: February 18, 2014 5:13:37 pm
I stand corrected. Looks like NTT #2 is up to $45. d'oh!

Green Arrow #16 has some heat behind it, but not because of the show, but because Jeff Lemire started that issue.

Because of the show, the first modern Suicide Squad which appeared in DC Legends #3 has had some heat behind it.

I'm calling issues of Uncanny X-Men #256 as heating up. Prices for NM are starting to get a solid $5. Applause

Tried to snag a Manifest Destiny #1 at my local hasting's last week but by the time I got there it had already been purchased. d'oh! That book is on fire.

What's the story behind Uncanny X-Men 256 heating up? 1st new Psylocke?

Yup, 1st "New" Psylocke. All of her British persona comics have skyrocketed in price. Issue #257 is her 1st in costume.

That's really cool that those x-men books are heating up. I have some of Betsy Braddock's early appearances. I still need The Dardevils No. 3 which is the first time she is presented as having purple hair. The issue is published in b&w but it is mentioned that she has purple hair. Kinda cool for huge Psylocke fans.

New Mutants Annual #2 is Betsy Braddock's 1st US appearance. The 1st appearance of the new Psylocke is in Uncanny X-Men #256.

Hmmmm. Might download the preview to check it out.

From Blue Juice Comics:

Blue Juice Comics is proud to announce that it will publish and distribute a new series, ANNE BONNIE!

ANNE BONNIE is a pirate themed comic series from creator Tim Yates. This marks the second collaboration between Blue Juice Comics and Tim Yates with the first being Tim’s excellent work as a colorist on THE ACCELERATORS.

ANNE BONNIE follows the story of Ariana and is set in a place known as the Great Seas. The Great Seas is in an era of change following the Great Sea War, and the disappearance of the Pirate Queen, Anne Bonnie. Pirate Lord’s have once again taken control of the southern ocean while groups of Myr warriors have resumed attacking ships. Ariana is thrust in the middle of this chaotic time and her story promises to be a thrill ride for the reader.

I managed to grab 1, hopefully i receive it without any problems.

What would be a "reasonable" (used very loosely) for someone to pay for the set, as in all of them at one time? How much will (or is going to) it cost for someone to get all of them at once?

Id say probably $500-$700 for all the covers depending on how popular it becomes, then probably $800-$1000 easy.

To put that in perspective, a NM copy of The Amazing Spider-Man #24 (vol. 1) from May 1965, is valued here at $850. I'd rather got that than all of these variants.

$800 is the value here of a NM copy of Captain America #100 (vol. 1), or ...
$600 could get you Fantastic Four #66 & #67 (vol. 1) - the 1st app. of Him/Warlock, or ...
$600 for Avengers #57 (vol. 1) - 1st app. of Vision, or ...
$750 for Detective Comics #359 (vol. 1) - 1st app. of Batgirl

And all of these will probably never decrease in value. - Bob

...and then I would read them and they would no longer be NM. But it would be $600 - $800 well spent.

There might be some recap here but here are a list of books bubbling to the top:

Thief of Thieves #1 @ $41 & 11 bids - little discussed (at least in comparison to the other books) and it's still doing very well in the aftermarket.
Scalped #1 @ $31 & 9 bids just popped onto the list sometime yesterday. TV show huh?
Superior Spider-Man 29 Variant @ $28 & 16 bids - Campbell and Black Cat. Nuff said.
Captain America #6 @ $26 & 18 bids. - The new market darling since the movie premiere.
Copra Compendium @ $26 & 2 bids. - One of those rarely spoken about books that are all over the MA comics to watch list. No one seems to know about it.
Strain #1 @ $23 & 16 bids. - Starting to see it more and more.
Gotham Girls #3 @ $15 & 3 bids. - Probably a Harley Quinn thing.
Captain America #14 @ $14 & 3 bids. -Just starting to warm up again.

The rest of the list

Unsold copies can be returned to Diamond Distributing meaning the comic shop doesn't have to worry about unsold stock.

I saw X-Men Days of Future Past last night. Look for X-Factor #6 to see a strong uptick here soon. You might want to hit your LCS up before Friday.

I think it is already there. It has been known for awhile and we updated our pricing in March. Maybe there is a little more room to increase, but right now we might be a little high on our estimate.

There will probably be another bump after this weekends release. It's already being listed in the $90.00 and up range for raw copies.

Can anybody explain why a comic adaption of a book is worth so much? I don't get it.

I think it this case it is because it is a kick ass comic book, regardless of the source material.

I read the book and enjoyed it but I still don't understand the prices for this adaption.

Could prove to be a good issue to grab a few extra copies of. Has the first appearance of Kirkman's new book, Outcast, which is gaining a lot of steam. Issue 127 could eventually be known more for the first appearance of Magna though. Definitely one to watch, IMHO!
