sandstormer Collector in Training moderator lifetime member Location: USA Posts: 42 My Collection	Posted: May 22, 2015 8:45:13 pm The Walking Dead #115-N (http://comicbookrealm.com/series/5871/301352/image-the-walking-dead-issue-115n) CBR, which lists values based on raw comics, not the value of CGC slabbed copies which always sell for more on eBay and any/every other retailer for even common issues, currently has Walking Dead 115N valued at $500.00 for NM (9.4) and $625 for MINT- (9.8 ). Again, it's worth repeating that these values are for raw copies, not the premium values asked/paid for slabbed copies. These values are grossly inflated based on eBay, mycomicshop, Mile High, and Midtown Comics asking prices (and two recently sold copies on eBay). • mycomicshop.com currently has two CGC 9.8 copies on consignment with asking prices of $275.50 and $269.99: https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&campid=5336824214&toolid=10001&tid=482391&dsp=issuelist&pgi=101#25046528. • eBay presently has 6 CGC 9.8 copies offered. 5 are priced from $284.95 to $317.95 (includes S&H) with one high outlier at $511.90 (includes S&H) as the BIN on an auction listing with a minimum opening bid of ($289.95 + $12.95 S&H/no bids on item). eBay's search results for recently sold items only show two recent sales. Given the premium prices that sellers ask for CGC copies (and buyer's pay), especially for 9.8 grades, the value for raw copies is lower than this for MINT- 9.8. Since CBR values are for raw copies, using the asking prices, or even the one $200 price for the sold item, of CGC 9.8 copies would be an inflated value (although $200 is acceptable allowing for the possibility that the CGC 9.8 sale was a low-end outlier). Midtown Comics' $425 price is so inflated that they look ridiculous (the only way to look more ridiculous than them would be paying $425 for a copy). I think the $150 for NM 9.4 at Mile High is likely FMV for raw copies given the VF/NM 9.0 raw copy that sold on eBay last month. Anything higher than $150 is wishful thinking when an online comic shop known for being over-priced has them in-stock and for sale at that amount and when CGC 9.8 copies are readily available on eBay and mycomicshop.com for $270-280.00. Summary: Walking Dead 115N: Mint- 9.8 should decrease in value from $625 to $200 and its NM 9.4 value should decrease from $500 to $150. If you look at the price history on this you can see it was added starting off at $500 almost 2 years ago. No one has followed up on this issue since then. I know first hand that sinking feeling when I realize I held onto an issue too long and its value plummets from its peak. That's even worse than selling something too soon and it spiking shortly afterwards. I know that feeling too having sold two CGC New Mutants #98 (9.8 and 9.6) for $485 and $375 and three raw NM copies for $250-275 all within the 1-3 weeks before the film was announced… I could have sold them for 2-3X those prices had I held onto them a couple weeks longer… smh. Still I made a nice profit on them so it takes the sting out of not making an even larger profit. Nothing balances out a huge value drop though, especially if you paid a premium for it originally. Still, I know this is my first reference when buying comics and even though I usually have time to verify sometimes I don't (auction closing within 2-5 mins for example). I'm sure I'm not the only one and didn't want someone to overpay by $300-350. On a positive note, would you believe that after more than a year and logging 10,000 or so comic books + contributing as an editor, I never noticed that little clickable icon next to the value before?! What a cool feature and can't believe that I didn't already know about it. I was even going to request it as a feature once because of a value change in one of my comics and I had no idea what its value was before… luckily I got distracted and was spared feeling sheepish!
