TMNT V2 #13 error

Well going through my collection to enter all my books here on comicbookrealm.com I came across one of my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles books that I could not find any info on, the cover said it was" TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES CROSSOVER CREED" with the Mirage Publishing and Lightning Comics logos on the cover, no number, date or price. I did not buy this book firsthand brand new, I purchased it with about 1200 other books, mostly multiple copies of about 200 books at auction. The original owner of this huge collection of over 60,000 books aparently purchased most of the books directly from the manufactures, with a large amount of limited edition and signed books from small press printers like Lightning and London Nights. so I started my web search. I found lots of Creed Crossover with TMNT, but nothing that matched my copy. My next step cleared things up a little, I took the comic out of the bag for the first time since I have owned it, and opened the first page to read the indicia. The indicia was not on page one, nothing unusual, so I flipped through the first couple of pages, still nothing, so I flipped to the last page, and there it was, AHA I was going to figure out what this book was! The indicia read "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Volume two, number 13Oct 1995" then I turned to the back cover, that I had never seen before because of the backing board, and sure enough it was TMNT V2 #13! The front cover was on the back, and the back cover was on the front.

Now it was time to search again with this new infomation, and a search yeilded one completed ebay listing, nothing else, that still left me the question of how rare is this error book? and why can I not find more info on it? I know I had at least 4 copies of this book, one was given to my nephew, one to my daughters boy friend, and one to a co-worker for his son, I cannot check to see if I have more as I gave all the leftover duplicates to my son to sell off on ebay and flea markets, I will have to get him to pull all the TMNT Crossove books and return them to me.

An email has been sent to Mirage Studios and Recalled Comics.com requesting any info they have on this book, I will let you all know what transpires as I find out.

  • I received an email from a person that specializes in error and recalled books, and this was his reply:

    Hi Richard,

First of all apologies for the late reply (just catching up as I have been away with work). I did come across that one a little while back but I don't have any real information on it (I have a couple of photos and that's about it). I can only guess that the print run is very small as this one is not well known so would guess that there would be less than 100 (but it is just a guess).

I have the following error editions listed for TMNT:

TMNT vol.1 #1 reprint: Jetpack Orange variant (may just be treated as a "second printing" by CGC but will keep an eye on it).
TMNT vol.1 #1 reprint: Color error edition - on site:
    TMNT vol.1 #3 NYCC "Laird's Photo" variant
TMNT vol.1 #4 second print error edition - on site:
    TMNT vol.2 #13 error edition

The photo's I have for #13 are not great so if you have any better ones please feel free to send them.

    Many thanks
    AJ

  • Mirage Studios also replied back with:

    Howdy Richard,

It is a printing error - unfortunately we don't have any records on
what occurred, so I don't know for sure if the misprints got into the
retail system and were recalled, but I suspect that this is what
happened since most of the comics shipped directly from the printer to
the distributor. Typically on recalls, comic retailers can return bad
copies for good copies, but many opt to only send in a portion of the
bad copies so they can keep them in hopes that they'll become sought-
    after collectibles.

If that's what did happen, there are potentially as many error copies
as there are good copies out there, and for the last issue of volume
two, I suspect that would mean around 10,000, so it's probably not a
    rare item.

    Cheers!
    Dan
